A Good Movie With Action, Drama & Humor.
2 May 2021
I downloaded this movie to watch for free, mainly because of the main actor Rod Taylor. Beside the actor Terence Hill I really did not know of any of the other actors. If you are expecting a "Troy" like movie with 1,000's of CGI warships and 10's of 1,000's of soldiers/sailor you will be disappointed. This is made in the early 1960's! They did rather well with the actors they had, some real ships that they could use & decent use of model ships in the final battle.

Rod Taylor was clearly selected for the lead part because he was well known to most movie goers at this time. I have a number of his movies in my collection and he does not disappoint in any of them. This movie covered lightly the history of Sir Francis Drake. Played by Mr. Taylor. The supporting actors/actresses are mainly European and likely not as well known, but they provide a good enjoyable supporting cast. I really liked the role of Keith Michell, whom I did not know of as an actor. His role as 2nd in command to Drake had humor and action that was enjoyable. As a younger officer under Drake he found himself in a somewhat embarrassing position on one of their cruises. He also has a number of other scenes of action that are enjoyable.

I suggest you sit back and enjoy a movie made almost 60 years ago and that it is better than much of what is produced today.

Excellent bio of the legend Ben Hogan
27 March 2021
This is my first review of any movie. First disregard all bad reviews & complaints this is made by Hollywood for $. Why would anyone do a movie if not to make $$$? Would you work for nothing? Most of the time I like to read the trivia section before I watch a movie & if it is about a person, such as Ben Hogan I like to read online their bio. If you do this for this movie you will find this movie follows very closely to the real history of this man. There are some really notable real life pro golfers that played their real life roles in the making of this movie. Not to mention that Ben Hogan himself worked with Glenn Ford and the production of this movie. Mr. Hogan even gave Mr. Ford the set of clubs he used to win the US Open!

If you read a bio of Ben Hogan you will find that this movie basically follows his life in hard times and great times. As a golfer of 50+ years and playing in local amateur tournaments for 25 years, I found this movie to be very enjoyable. During this time I won a couple dozen amateur tournament, but I never had to depend upon the winnings to support myself or family. I learned good bit from the movie about the man & his devoted wife. This movie is about a dream of a young boy to become one of the best Pro golfers in history and make that dream into reality. He did not come from a wealthy family or father that was a golfer. His father committed suicide when Ben was a young boy. This movie and the real history of the man, Ben Hogan really is something that should have been fiction from Hollywood. Only this movie is real, about a real honest to God good man who became a golf legend. Read the trivia section & then bios on Ben Hogan. Then watch the movie. Then you might appreciate this movie and the actors/actresses a lot more.

Weapons/Rifles used?
17 May 2019
This is the first time that I have watched this great Cooper movie in a very long time. I am no weapons expert, but the rifles the soldiers are using look like something after or at the end of the civil war. In 1840 wouldn't they still be using Musket rifles? This still is a great Gary Cooper movie & Hollywood does not do these any more.

Fun Movie With Good Young & older Actors
14 December 2017
It is just a movie folks. Not a lesson in "History". It was a slick fast paced western movie. Something Hollywood rarely gives us any longer.

Sit back and enjoy or change the dang channel.

It is just that simple in life...

A Golden Christmas 3 (2012 TV Movie)
Problem with description
27 November 2017
The movie description say (Naval Officer). This is incorrect. The young man rank is 2nd Class Petty Officer. I know they went after the younger age group, but this would have been a much better movie if it were about a retired Chief Petty Officer or actual naval officer.

They could have gone with the theme of a Officer and Gentleman from 30 years ago. That might have worked. I still think it would have worked much better if they had gone with a more mature age group since they made it about the US military.

Shalom
