Sucks
16 November 2022
This movie is quite possibly the worst thing I've seen this year.

The acting sucks. With the exception of the sweet little girl, they none of the actors put effort into making the movie special.

Lindsay has had okay performances, this wasn't one of them. Maybe she should consider soapies because she clearly hasn't developed her craft since we last saw her.

None of the characters have any depth. They look 40+ but act like they're in their twenties.

The dialogue sucks. Was there a team of writers? We're any of them older than twelve?

The plot is predictable and overdone. Sucks.

Seriously, the only good thing about this movie was the setting.

It's not good

Bad acting. Bad script. Great location. The plot deviated from the novel, and not in the best ways. In the book, we could at least understand Kate's motivation. I questioned the main character's decision making process through out the movie. If Netflix is adapting novels into movies, why not pick good novels? There are plenty.

Less fake than the original

Smaller sales than Selling Sunset, but the personalities are more authentic. The drama is less high school and thank goodness less real housewives. All together a more mature show with funny moments and some heartwarming scenes. I truly enjoyed binge watching it.

Back with a bang
12 November 2021
It's been five years and the ladies have grown up. Zaza is now a widow, having lost her husband a year ago. Princess has moved on with a very good looking albeit controlling Maxwell. Sadly, Nandi and Thomas are MIA. She's replaced with beautiful yogi/ cafe owner Zimkita who is looking to find love.

Leo returns to destabilize Princess' happily ever after. And Zara's in laws invite themselves into her home and finances. She reacts by making some questionable choices.

I enjoyed Zaza and Princess's storylines. They rang true. Zimkita's one was not as nuanced or complex. Renate Stuurman gave best performance. She and the actor who played Maxwell carried the movie.

I hope to see more modern South African movies like this. I feel successful SA women don't get their stories told enough. I loved it, though not as much as the prequel.

Irredeemably awful

Not cute or funny, just annoying. I don't know what they were thinking. Even Pierce Brosnan was bad. The comedy was slapstick and cheap. I'm glad I never have to watch it again.

May be my favourite DCEU movie ever

Can't wait to see it again tomorrow. James Gunn is a genius. Idris Elba murdered his role as Bloodsport. Margot Robbie has perfected Harley Quinn. Loved Sly Stallone. Loved the humour, the gore and the heart.

Save yourself the trouble

What did I just watch?! What a missed opportunity! If you thought 365 was bad, this is worse. This series has no redeeming qualities, it's just bad from beginning to end.

Brilliant

This has so many layers of goodness. From the acting to the screenplay and the cinematography. Deborah Ayorinde is brilliant and someone I'll be looking out for in future.

Engaging performance
12 May 2021
Oxygen is a Netflix sci-fi thriller directed by Alexandra Aja.

Melanie Laurent carried this one scene, one actress movie beautifully. The movie opens with the main character waking up inside a cryogenic pod with no recollection of who she is or how she ended up there. Her only ally is the AI, MILO, manning the chamber.

The first act is mainly Liz (the MC) freaking out, trying to remember who she is and how she got into this predicament. The second act is filled with impending gloom as she realises that she's quickly expanding her oxygen supplies yet has no means of escape. These were the most thrilling and engaging aspects of the movie because we experienced the frustration, claustrophobia and fear along with Liz. The cinematography does a great job of emphasising this claustrophobic environment as well as capturing the futuristic pod.

The let down is in the third act for me, I thought it fell a little flat from what was promised. Regardless, it kept me on my toes the entire time.

An African Thriller series with a good storyline
25 April 2021
I loved the MC, Will Stone, a horror writer. He's a different take on the usual hero's we're normally shown. His acting is stellar and the character is relatable. I also enjoyed the comic relief in the character of Joe, the cynical ex-cop. I initially struggled with the female character and her constantly open mouth but she grew on me. All in all I enjoyed the growth of the characters friendship even more than the "thriller" aspects of the story. I thought the costumes and CGI could have been better, that's why it's not a 10 for me.

Likeable characters. Beautifully shot
23 April 2021
I enjoyed the pacing and how we got to know the back stories of most of the characters. I wish we had an explanation as to how Michael came to be screwed into the panel. Was it an attempted murder/ sabotage? I appreciated the ending though I feel it left too much hanging.
