Gojira -1.0 (2023)
The only Gojira movie that I approve
I watched it today on Netflix, and I felt sad that I couldn't watch this in theatres. I always used to think Godzilla movies are kind of silly and entertaining to watch. The recent movie Kong vs Godzilla was good but it can never be as good as Minux one.
The thing I like in this movie is that I was so invested in the characters. Each character has something to say and the really wanted to protagonist to have a good life. I was not disappointed at all. I am enthralled by the emotions, the music and important the visuals of post war 1947.
Overall, this movie is the best Godzilla adaptation in my opinion. Outstanding movie.
Damsel (2024)
Not what I expected. This movie is very nice
I thought I am going to see a typical cringe movie. The trailer they released had so much revealed. But on the contrary this was a very nice movie.
The plot didn't get ruined where the MC talks it over with the Dragon settle it in just the first 30 mins. If that were to be the case this movie would have been ruined. But it's not. The MC puts up a very good fight with the dragon, and injures it very badly, and in the very final moment she reveals the truth. I was honestly frustrated why she didn't explain she was royalty since the very beginning, but she didn't and neither th dragon was ready to listen.
Tensei Shitara Suraimu Datta Ken (2018)
Top creative content. The production deserves many medals.
It took me a long time to give some attention to this show. But I finally did and now I only regret why I haven't watched this sooner. The Slime Master is my favourite strategist. The protagonist is the embodiment of empathy, cuteness and power.
This has all the mythical creatures you could ask for. It has Orcs, Goblins, Monsters, Dragons, Humans, Elves, Dwarves and more. Never a dull moment.
The concept is very creative and sometimes I feel like the Slime is Tony Stark IronMan because he can talk to AI.
I started with the first episode and I bing watched the whole season 1. I really want more of such great shows.
Hanu Man (2024)
Passion, Vision, Story and Execution made this a Great Success
Before I proceed talking about Hanu-Man, I want to say that I don't like most Indian films and so I avoid them, not that I am biased but I only care and judge based on good Story and the Entertainment value, which unfortunately lacks in most Indian films. I avoid going to films especially those movies which defies physics and logic. Telugu and Tamil films are a bit exception to this feeling of mine. Because, even though certain things would never make sense, the Charisma of some characters makes up for the flaws. I see, Cinema as not as a business, but as a Art. I never cared or will care if a movie is made by "Big Directors" or "Big Heroes". Any applause any movie gets just because the movie has a particular "Big Hero" is something I loathe.
Now, coming to this movie "Hanuman', I must say this is the blockbuster I was waiting for almost 4 years. It easily beats RRR, KGF (both parts) and Salaar. What this movie has is a beautiful story, great comedy, a cute hero, a hero with weaknesses , and villian who is not overly villainous or powerful, a strong emphasis on culture, perfect women roles, perfect side artists, the locations and the Graphics.
This movie is a fabulous feast to the eyes.
As I said before, I don't watch movies which are intentionally and forcefully too much emotional. But this movie is nothing like that. It has a very strong fundamentals which clearly explains why the Hero has those powers. The CGI and everything is well made given they spend 1/16 of the budget which big films usually get.
What this movie needs right now is recognition and for most of the films in Indian cinema industry, big heros and directors promote big films. But for this movie, there is not a lot of support from these "big heroes". Surprisingly, the public started deciding for themselves and are find out what a fantastic movie this is.
So, all in all, this movie made me cry a bunch of times and it will have a special place in my heart.
The director of this movie Prashant did a fabulous job. I could see his vision and his creativity. The background score and the subtle music is awesome. I don't have much words to say. Thanks to the director for giving me this movie this year.
Mushoku Tensei: Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu (2021)
One of the best anime's I have ever watched
The show openings itself is so beautiful that your heart would melt like butter. The visuals are fantastic. The character development is off the charts. The plot is mesmerizing and very deep. The show takes it all slow and shows what kinds of values are important in a human being.
The only nutheads who complain about this show is bad/worse/evil are the ones who regardless of what the show offers, are hell bent about watching one or two scene which are too mature in nature. These people are religious and have been brought up in a certain way. And they want all the greatness of the show, but without any spice whatsoever.
The show depicts, rape, sexual tension between children etc. The main character is pervy. But that's what makes him the main character. He is developing. Why can't people see that I don't get it. They really need to stop rubbing their nonsensical morals and ethics on other cultures and people.
Captain Fall (2023)
I admit I did not expect such orginal content on Netflix these days
Captain fall is a banger. It's an adult animation with a very well written story line. I kind of felt like Rick and Morty, or South park but in its own unique way. The animation is very well done.
I did not expect this. Honestly, I just clicked it randomly and it did not even appear in my top recommendations on Netflix. But I would have kicked myself if I had missed such a great series.
I would love to see Netflix to Invest more on Captain fall and bring on more seasons. I want to see character growth in the protagonist.
I also like the fact that the producers did not shy away from putting adult stuff in there. I couldn't have asked for better.
Oppenheimer (2023)
Irregular Narration, Fast Paced, Ok Visuals and a Great Camerawork. It's Neither Boring, nor Great.
I will keep my review very simple and absolutely honest.
The movie is a biopic in its purest sense. Don't watch this movie if you think the Trinity test will be spectacular with great special effects. Nolan tried to achieve the blast with practical effects and that took a major toll on the seriousness of how violent Nuclear explosion can be. Basically there is only one explosion people go to the watch the movie. If someone is telling me they watched the movie just for the Dr. Oppenheimer's pov of life, I would say they are lying to themselves. Everyone on this planet have some philosophy of their own and a sob story. Oppenheimer's doesn't make him any special or more vulnerable than us. That's the essence of life.
I did not go to the movie expecting it to be an action flick. Also just because I am a long time Nolan fan doesn't mean I can lie to myself convincing that's it's a spectacular movie. The movie is just blant. Over 90% of the movie is distracting with its cutting and showing different timelines while lacking consistency in story telling. Nolan is know to cut scenes and show past and future back to back without giving the audience gap to breath. This style of screenplay will work only for some movies but not all. I totally understand why Nolan had to do what he did, but it simply didn't workout that well.
I am from India, and usually I know when it's a great movie by seeing our Audience reaction. 70% of the seats were full and I thought people would usually blast the theatre with screaming like monkeys do, like we do in all good movies. But this time, I watched a soul-less, exhausted audience. Most of them were not even bothering to stay and give the movie some attention.
The other thing I want to talk about it's the sound track. As gorgeous it can be, it's frustrating and irritating to see Nolan using the same Dunkirk theatrics like the playing the foot stomping rail track sound again and again. To summarise what I saw
1. A loud monotonous eerie sound track.
2. Characters yelling half the time to make the movie look serious.
3. A failed Trinity explosion practical effects.
4. Too much screentime about the protagonist AEC hearing and potential indictment. (Honestly, who in this day and age would give a damn about how the guy who made the atom bomb coped with Govt Committees for a stupidest reason that he could be potential Communist? I mean, how could the director think people who are watching the film know how big of a deal it is to talk communist ideas in a Capitalistic nation during WW2?)
5. An unapologetic scientist in real life, which the movie did a fantastic job to not give a F or care about him and why he had to do what he had to do. Nolan literally failed to make me feel sorry for Oppenheimer. Just, seeing him read a BS sankrit phrase, "Now I become death, destroyer of worlds" is meant to convince he is really sorry for killing 210000 people?
6. A movie which seriously lacks flow of story telling.
7. A 3 hours, loud, serial type of drama.
Atleast to do some justice to the people who are about to watch this movie, I would say, try to learning the names of the characters in Oppenheimer's life and how influential they too are. This movie is not for an Average Joe with zero knowledge about scientists and their respective contributions. And the way Nolan introduced them like a high speed train into the movie is seriously bad.
All in all, it's a good movie, but not spectacular.
Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)
I just bleached my eyes with Amrita/Nectar from Heaven
Look I don't know how to spin up words 100 different ways. So to simply put it, This movie is the Best Visually stunning thing I have ever watched so far. After watching the film I was so much in Awe that I looked for people's reaction online. Many people trash talked about it that this movie has no plot. But what I look in movies like this is how far technology has come. How much beauty out there am I missing out there in the real world? This movie gave me a hard knockout punch and reset my brain to know my priorities. That's what defines a Great Movie to me. Not some action packed kissass plot. I think this was the Grand vision of Mr. Cameron. I have being following him for a while now and I think I know his Vision. I used to wonder why he talks so much about underwater. But after seeing this movie I realized he is a Billion times right. Underwater is way too beautiful. It must be protected from us Human eyes. So if some person talks bad about this movie and discourages more people in watching, then they are indirectly doing goodness to Mr. Cameron Vision. Go ahead. Underwater world is not for all. But I will have this in Bluray 4K and own a copy for sure. Just my little secret. My new stress reliever.
I mean come on. If what you really want is a sick plot to thrill, then why would it take 3+ hours runtime to give what you want? Just put some sense into it first and realize that there is never a Great Or Majestic plot for a movie which is 3+ hours long!!
If you are planning to watch it, just watch it in 3D and that too only in theaters. Otherwise, you are doing yourself a disservice. After watching it and coming out, think for a minute. Just recall. When was the last time you saw something so beautiful in your life? Don't tell me Avengers Endgame. If still this felt a waste of time, I strongly question your taste and it is very odd.
There is no beginning or end to the way of the water. Peace.
The Batman (2022)
Literally slept after the first 45 mins
The movie is extremely boring that I literally slept half point. Robert did good acting but the plot sucks. The villian in the movie is a joke. The director tried a lot of realism, but the movie plot made it unwatchable. Don't deserve an 8.5 rating which it currently has. Also, I feel like I can't complete watching the rest. Bummer.
K.G.F: Chapter 2 (2022)
Not so good as I expect; Lacks serious story telling.
Compared to KGF Chapter 1 the Chapter 2 is not what I expected. The movie's story and narration takes a big chunk of excitement and it upsets me a lot. Half time into the movie, the movie felt just "Boring". There is fantastic background music and hero elevations through the screen time. But the lack of coherence In the story telling combined with some very fast paced editing make the whole thing feel uninspired and gore. It feels that the movie could have done much better story-wise. Overall, it's watchable, but not memorable.
