Painfully slow
I like the premise, the monsters, and the mystery, but all that unnecessary human drama is so annoying. I mean, you are god knows where, cut out from the rest of the world, there are monsters tryingto kill you after dark, and you still have petty squabbles about nothing important. The entire season could be compressed into three good episodes when you cut out all the talk about feelings, hopes, dreams. Ugh. After the first two episodes, I watched it on fast forward. Basically, nothing major happens, except that it looks and feels more and more like Lost. And we all know how that one ended - without tying up any of the loose ends. Just lazy writing. I hope I am wrong and that S2 will pick up the pace, but I'm not getting my hopes up much.
Sausage Party (2016)
why are there so many bad reviews?
This film was genuinely funny. What's the problem? That the film questions religious beliefs? Or that it makes references to previous and modern-day conflicts? Or was it the profanity? I like to think that well-placed swear words only add substance and make us feel alive. I abhor films that use "gosh darn it" or "friggin'" or some other avoidables. Say it like you mean it. I was thoroughly impressed by how the film managed to assign a backstory to each product, in line with their country/region of origin. There are so many details I am sure I overlooked that I will definitely have see it at least a couple of more times.
Good job, guys.
Battleship (2012)
formulaic but fun in spite Rihanna
This film is formulaic to the core, but it still manages to provide great fun.
If you're looking for thought-provoking material, avoid it. If you just wanna have fun, then go for it. In that sense, this film is a success in spite of horrific dialogues and Rihanna's Julliard performance. The love interest is stupid and unnecessary, but who's ever heard of this type of film without a love interest. I'm guessing the NY stock exchange would crash if there were no love interest. We, the audience, being stupid and all, need to be aware that the Hero is fighting not only for sheer survival but also for the hot blonde waiting on the island (who is also, in her own blond way, contributing to the humanity's fight for survival). God, just typing this makes me wanna puke.
On the other hand, I really liked each and every action scene. I know, it's packed with CGI but it's interesting, dynamic, and has a nice flow to it. Yeah, it's no Friday Night Lights, but after five days at the office, this is just the thing I needed to unwind. :) Btw, Rihanna... I don't know what she had to do to be made part of this film. I don't know if she slept with the director, or invested a fortune into the film, but giving her a talking role... that remains one of the greatest mysteries of the universe.
