Killjoys (2015)
After 2 episodes
I love the production values on the background and clutter.
The actors are good enough for television.
The main guys are hard to tell apart. Good looking white guys with the same hair and jaw line. At least the bad guys are typical ugly and much more interesting. All the women are good looking.
The stories are typical syfy channel thin but fun with lots of action.
BUT. The plot is advanced through stupidity (lazy writing) on the part of one or more of the main characters. I can tolerate most things but stupidity just takes all the fun out of it.
Watch it for some time wasting distraction.
Is That a Gun in Your Pocket? (2016)
Pretty good comedy
In Trumpland if you don't like something you call it fake news, liberal or deny it ever happened. This is a lighthearted comedy that pokes fun at the basics of relationships. Republicans really do think all women are second class citizens so its obvious they wouldn't find it funny. In fact if your ego and manhood are so fragile that you can't deal with a little teasing then you are republican and you should avoid this movie just so you won't beat your wife and children. I live in a republican neighborhood so I have guns to protect me from my delusional neighbors. This comedy is really about relationships between normal men and women. Not maniacal meatheads and their molls. Grow a pair and shore up your wafer thin ego with some kool-aid and take your lovely wife to the RedBox to rent this little gem.
Time After Time (2017)
The candy bowl incident - spoiler at the bottom.
I know it was canceled already. I don't really care why but my vote would be "just plain stupid." It starts off sort of OK with a short 1893 setting full of 1893 people then moves to modern day. The characters are likable and pretty like all TV people. The plot begins to twist which is also something to applaud. The bad guy is even believable and convincing. Then comes the part where this New Yorker makes some good moves to reconcile the dilemma of the moment...and the writers all quit leaving the show to be decided by talent-less executive types. I just couldn't keep watching because I knew there would be one stupid move after another to keep the story on course. Write it better. Come up with better ideas instead of the cliché. If you like simple, like King of Queens simple then this would be a fair show. 7.9. I don't think so.
***SPOILERS HERE BELOW*** Our heroine, Jane clocks the ripper with a candy bowl "once". Sneaks past his moaning body with the damsel in peril and heads out the door only to be re-captured in less than 10 seconds. Anyone else would have beaten the schmuck with the bowl at least until he stopped moaning and moving. Then a much more interesting thing could have happened like when the police arrive his body was missing. Another dilemma could be set up and even more suspense added making a better show. One thing, why did he turn his back on her in the first place? He is from 1893 where women were window dressing that posed no threat.
The Blacklist: Redemption (2017)
We can hope it gets better
Not bad but not exceptional. At least not yet. I saw two episodes. There is potential if the writers fill in the plot holes. Like the instantaneous travel to far off places. The availability of floor plans for any structure in the world. Remotely connecting to and manipulating things that really have no connectivity.
There is a similarity to the old Mission Impossible TV series in that the solutions are multi-level but without the clever twists so far.
The action was fast paced on the two episodes. Everything will need to be more believable to raise this above all the other boring action series.
The tone, pacing and writing are completely different from the Blacklist so other than the characters they have nothing in common.
Wild (2014)
Get stoned WATCH Wild
Prepare for the miles you will travel I wish my mother had been that important in my life.
Don't be prepared just accept the path you have chosen Shoes are important.
OK. I got drunk on rye whiskey and not stoned but the path this movie lead was just as meaningful.
It was amazing.
There are lessons here but I don't really give a deleted expletive about that.
for the sober bunch. never mind. you wouldn't get it anyway.
Falling Water (2016)
Just finished the 10th episode
I enjoyed this show from the beginning. I admit I seek out anything that critics are calling slow or complicated. I do enjoy simple, brainless TV like People of Earth where characters are the draw.
The story line was simple throughout. The journey through it made it worthwhile. I enjoy seeing new and unique ideas (at least to me) no matter how bad the presentation. Here the production values are high and the sets well integrated. I thought the subdued acting/direction fit the dream state.
The only thing I have to say about the finale was that I was left with a much different feeling about the boy than when he was first introduced. I hope there is a second season.
