Compelling, well acted and shocking
19 January 2024
Steve Coogan is an excellent actor.

In this film he plays a defence attorney for a man who has killed seven men for no apparent reason.

The accused doesn't wish to be defended, cannot remember what happened and refuses to talk about it.

In my opinion, other than the opening scene, the film begins slowly but builds to a crescendo as Coogan's character puts questions to the accused in an attempt to find the cause or trigger for this event to occur.

The facts of the case are self evident and there is no argument against that but why would he do this to people he did not know?

The film uses flashbacks where the Coogan character poses these questions and we get to see the situations the defendant was in and what he had to do. We see his slow progress that leads to the murders.

The end footnotes state that this case had an influence in changing South African law regarding the death penalty.

One thing mentioned in the film was that with murderers and victims, no one remembers the victims. Lets hope this isn't the case.

Intriguing

This documentary was very intriguing.

The slow start, the presentaion of events and the unbelievable stories led me to thinking, yep this is a Gone Girl copy but for real!

I vaguely remember the story but not the outcome.

The way the couple were individually shown in both police interviews and even the Netflix interviews truly sounded like the kidnapping was not true and actually bizarre.

I placed trust in the police investigation as that has been my point of truth but now find I need remove my bias and think more carefully about jumping to conclusions.

Watch this and draw your own conclusions.

Based on a true story
27 November 2023
This series is about corruption, greed, bureaucracy and yet it is also about life and saving lives via sacrifice.

The horror of the gas leak in Bhopal was exposed and the corruption of government and it's bureaucracy that allowed it to occur also nearly prevented the saving of many lives.

The disregard of employee safety was shown in its fullest and I would say that because they were in a 3rd world country, it didn't warrant or rate highly by Union Carbide management.

See it for yourself, sure, it has been dramatised so that you can see what happened and care for those that sacrificed themselves, the survivors and families affected as well as the heroes and villians.

An excellent father son movie
6 December 2020
This movie had great relationship themes between a father and son The extremes of the child being young and beholden to his talented father to becoming a mission saving hero and the father being a talented but flawed engineer trying to recover was excellent Sure there were probably some big flaws and stereotypes but it was a story of love and devotion and growing up and giving hope. The scene of Chinese nationalism, portraying the different parts of the country as one, were grating but lasted for a couple of minutes, certainly not enough to spoil the tale being told Loved it
