Der Amsterdam Krimi: Das Mädchen ohne Namen (2022)
Suspenseful crime thriller
Trying to leave the rough life of Eastern Europe behind to find new possibilities and to provide for her son, single mom Laila, (Carina de Vroome), from Belarus found a job at a restaurant in the Netherlands through an online job portal.
Her life drastically changes when her job expectations aren't met at all and turn out to be a nightmare you don't wish for your worst enemy or your mom for that matter.
"Mother is the name of god, on the lips and in the hearts of all children in the world." - William Makepeace Thackeray
That quote hits hard as the young mother gets stripped of her phone and her passport. She is now an isolated victim of a human trafficking organization for prostitution. The red light district of Amsterdam needs new merchandise and it's being sorted.
Nikolai her boyfriend from Belarus whom she trusts and loves, turns out to be a crucial part of this prostitution ring by deceiving young women with a promise of a better life and job opportunities abroad. He keeps her dancing in the windows of Amsterdam. Out of fear Laila is obedient. She can't trust anybody. Even the Amsterdam police is being paid off by the criminals.
Nikolai's threat towards her child and her family is unbearable.
The brothel is under investigation by a collaborative task force of the German and the Dutch police. The felons drop a bombshell and the police must intensify their efforts after an undercover cop is found dead. Decapitated alive.
Several failed attempts by the police to infiltrate the ring make it harder for main investigator Alex Pollack (Hannes Jaenicke) to win Laila over as an informant.
Like a Phoenix from the ashes Laila rises with immense new willpower and determination to fend for her life and her family.
Trying to fix the problem, up the hierarchy the bosses are willing to let heads roll.
Pollack's team succeed to take down the snake with it's head by a clever coup and a lipstick.
The director Ismail Sahin manages a successful outcome with this unsettling story about real life events. His cast wonderfully portrays this dramatic plot.
Hannes Jaenicke and Carina de Vroome shine in their dark and hopeful performances.
Dünentod - Ein Nordsee-Krimi: Das Grab am Strand (2023)
What a breath of fresh air!
The story of 'Das Grab am Strand" is about the disappearance of a young woman, from a beach party, who happens to work for the most powerful and influential business man in town. Soon the police find evidence of the crime at the beach which leads them to discover several bodies and a graveyard.
Heavy fog lies on the dunes. A crazy guy whose mind is trapped between Motörhead and alcohol, lives in a trailer on the beach. He hears a woman scream and his visions about a ghost and death come to life. The director takes a mystical angle at the story and keeps us engaged by misleading us about the perpetrator.
Are these crimes of power and domination or is there a more personal motive behind these killings? These are the questions that the detective and the police officer are struggling with. Each lead raises more questions for the detectives, while the audience is given glimpses of the sadistic mind of the killer. Soon the race is on and the stakes are even higher when the daughter of the homicide squad leader is taken.
Tensions build in the homicide squad as the jaded Detective Wolf (Hendrik Duryn) struggles with his own memories of trauma and drowning. Femke (Pia Micaela Barucki ) the police officer dreaming of a career on the homicide squad brings curiosity and focus to the team.
Ms Barucki brought a natural and convincing performance to the table. Her reactions to her final discoveries, were emotionally vivid and moving. This was a cathartic journey not just for the main characters but for the audience as well with a prospect of a hopeful future.
I've been following this director's (Ismail Sahin) work for a couple of years now. He has a talent for stirring the imagination with a blend of rich images, and accompanying music to evoke strong emotions and underline the tone of a scene. I hope to see more of these characters as well this type of well rounded and visually captivating stories on German TV.
Nicht schon wieder Rudi! (2015)
A warm hearted comedy about true friendship, disparity, love and second chances in life
I like the title "Nicht Schon Wieder Rudi" a lot, because who calls his dog like that? When old friends decide to come together and spend some quality time at a lake, removed from the din of life, they find themselves watching a friend losing his memories. Not knowing if this is for real or what the heck is going on, they are desperately looking for answers. Helpless but full of ideas they have different approaches to handle the situation. How do you help a friend looking for his long deceased dog "Rudi" without breaking his heart? Without knowing what reaction is to come? Murat and Sophie, new members of the friends are also facing their past with a chance of change. Love can overcome fear and change everything for everyone. The ensemble is witty and in tune with each other. Great script and cinematography. Splendid direction.
