It Came from Somewhere (2022)
Fun homage to 50's sci-fi cinema! Ed Wood is smiling!
I enjoyed it from the start to the finish. It is one of those movies that left me smiling and ready to watch again. It pokes fun of the B movies of the 50's but it isn't a spoof, it is a love letter, and a very good one at that. The cheap props and cheesy dialogue are part of what makes it so appealing.
When a flying saucer crashes on Earth, chaos ensues. The interaction between the aliens and the humans is a lot of fun and and filled with several laugh out loud moments. The creature wreaking havoc reminded me of Frankenstein's monster. In fact, several scenes seemed to be a direct tip of the hat to the classic Boris Karloff film. It is a new film but very easily sits among the films that inspired it.
They Reach (2020)
Deserves a wider audience
I like this movie a lot. It has an interesting premise and the acting is good. The story and pacing kept me engaged. It is definitely a B movie but like other reviews might claim its a stranger things ripoff, I call B. S. on that. It's an indie movie that might nor have a large budget but it doesn't need it because it focuses more on the storytelling. I'm glad I watched it. I love being recommended new movies and this was a great recommendation.
Bridge of the Doomed (2022)
A fast-paced thrill from start to finish
This one grabs ahold of you from the opening scene and does not let you go. It's a tightly woven story where zombies aren't the only thing you need to worry about. I loved every minute of it.
Art of the Dead (2019)
Well-crafted with a lot of originality
From the very start of the film, you lay eyes on beautiful, vibrant paintings. Then the horror begins and it takes you on wild-ride to the very end. Visually this is a beautiful film to look at. Creatively their is a lot to the story that you don't see very often, each shot framed almost like the paintings you see throughout the movie. The movie has a lot of the same colors throughout it. As a viewer this makes the movie so much more enjoyable. The ending was really cool. A lot went into it, really showing this this was a labor of love. I thought I kind of figured how it was all going to play out but then it took a turn that not only did I not see coming but that I was excited for as it was happening. I give it a 10 out of 10 because it captured my attention from the very beginning and didn't let go until the very end. It also showed me something new in the process.
The Poseidon Adventure (2005)
It's just a TV movie
You know, I get a kick out of reading other people's comments about this movie. Especially the old people that choose to compare this to the original. I for one loved the original and this film could never hold up to it. However, there are some people out there that just don't get the enjoyment out of older movies. I don't narrow this down to the younger generation because I am only 23 and I watch a lot of old movies. Some people can't though and that is why it is necessary to do remakes. Now, onto this film. It had a lot of problems. The main one for me was the looks of the boat after it was upside down and the navy seals were right next to it. It looked embarrassingly fake. And the hole in the boat, WHAT WAS THAT?!!! Some of the dialogue and the acting was kind of lame as well. However, I like that fact that a lot of the actors were people that we haven't seen for a while, mainly steve guttenberg and c. thomas howell. Once I knew that they were in the movie it didn't matter if there acting was any good or not. It was just nice to see that they are still around and acting. i don't think they'll ever be big again but they are still good. this movie will never be a classic and soon will be forgotten, but the main reason why i gave it a seven is it didn't leave me bored.
