More real than you think
11 May 2024
I watched this series when it came out. I was taking my time cause it's slow moving. Around the time I was watching it a similar incident happened here in El Paso, where a police officer was arrested for covering up a hit and run by the highway. I definitely saw the similarities right away and it angered me more that the ones who are supposed to protect the public are sometimes the ones who are the monsters behind the harm. I find it painful that Regina King lost her son a few years after thus role. I know it was different circumstances and her son was way older but a son is still a son. Strong performances from the cast and the story...well...it happens, more than not.

An unbelievable tale if you believe it.
17 April 2024
I wasn't gonna review this series but there are so many moronic reviews that I just had to review it. It is not a comedy and the music is not cartoonish. Obviously those words were written by some white guy who doesn't understand the culture. The music was beautiful and fitting being that the series is from South America not the USA. The story was compelling and heartfelt. I didn't feel like the series dragged at all, it told the story as it happened with some added dramatization. It combines some funny moments with the seriousness of the situation and it does have its heart wrenching moments, all good series do. Maybe it didn't deserve a 10 but it was given to counter some low scores. Definitely recommend this series, I binged it in one day. Worth the watch.

Not what we already know
26 January 2024
Being somebody who's been enthralled by Griselda Blanco and the life and world of crime she created without it being getting recognition like a fake narco king would, I thought I would see the same story. I was completely wrong. I expected the same documentary information mixed in some way or another to build the series. What was presented is a completely new story which brings about the origin story of a sympathetic monster. At times I found myself rooting for her and I'd stop myself and think, "wait, what are you doing? This woman is a monster!" Sometimes the story seems to drag on but at no point did this happen while Sofia was onscreen. She definitely carried this movie and her Joker smile reminisced a female version of the Heath Ledger Joker. Ruthless, charismatic, likeable but ultimately a monster. Making the detective a woman instead of the white guy who hunted her down definitely evens the field and makes for a more interesting story. Would definitely recommend.

Fleishman Is in Trouble (2022–2023)

Don't give up on what appears to be a tedious story.
20 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I have watched this series twice. Once because I just wanted to see what this show was about and because I'm a fan of Claire Danes. I honestly don't like Jesse Eisenberg but Claire Danes always makes good choices in the shows she makes. I was pleasantly surprised that first time and I believe I kinda took it in stride not fully paying attention but it still gripped me there at the end. I was reminded of this show while watching the Emmy's and seeing Claire Danes was nominated, so I decided to watch it again.

The show was as great as I remembered with those first episodes feeling tedious dealing with Jesse's character and his selfishness. All he seems to think about is himself and his penis, just like a teenager. To say this show is raunchy is to say the sun is kinda bright. It over does it sometimes, but I guess it's necessary to show how his character thinks. But really if you hang on you will eventually get to the last two episodes which makes it all worth it. Claire's performance is so amazing and she should've won that Emmy, she's just exceptional. The story telling really grips you and makes you examine your own story. Are we the selfish jerk only making things about ourselves or are we the one having that nervous breakdown with no concept of reality until someone seems to pull us from that never ending spiral, and will we be accepted back to society once the reality is brought to light? I definitely recommend this limited series because not only is it brilliant but sometimes we all need a reminder to stop thinking of just how things affect only us.

Not as dull as people make it out to be
27 December 2023
I will rate thus movie higher than it deserves to offset at least one of those low scores. Yes it's very slow moving but this is not an action movie, it's not a thriller and it's not a suspense movie either. It's a drama period. It's a dialogue driven movie and one that you have to pay attention to and not watch while on your phone. It is a convoluted mess and although Drea DeMartteo's role is almost insignificant, it fits within the story line.

Some of the actions truly don't make sense but then again, it's a movie. We must remember people in movies don't have common sense. Overall it was enjoyable and kept me engaged. The social commentary was quite weak but other than that I'd recommend it.

If only their was a better movie with better actors, oh wait! There is!
23 December 2023
Watching this movie all I could think about was rewatching The Mountain Between Us. Much better actors, better story, better everything. I love the queen of the North but this script didn't do her justice. Don't try to make a movie which had already been made better, it couldn't stand to either The Mountain Between Us or The Grey. Good luck choosing better scripts from now on.

And by the way the beginning was dumb and so were those deep reflection sequences. Also no real chemistry between them unlike Idris and Kate, now those two I loved. It did have some awesome views which is why it got 3 stars.

No satisfaction after the climax
17 April 2023
I was wondering why this movie had such a low rating because I was truly enjoying this movie. The four conflicts are things that are part of every day life. Nothing new, except for what either follows or what runs parallel to it. I really enjoyed Amy Smart's performance; she normally plays pain in the butt characters but she was a serious character here and she made the most of it. Some of the perceived ah showed their humanity. I just wish the movie had been longer to show how the characters began to deal with the aftermath, we were left midclimax wondering what happens after. It was nice to see Paz Vega as well, she should be a bigger star. The tornado itself wasn't exploited as much as it should have, being that that's what this movie was about.

But who's hunting who
16 April 2023
Hulu forced this upon me, it kept starting after whatever series that I was watching ended. I'm glad Hulu did that ot I would've missed out on this great series. The strong characters drive this series, it starts out strong but the characters are what keep you gripped and watching. Baba is Fredricas victim along with the rest of her victims. We want to feel for her and what she went through that made her who she is, but the what she keeps manipulating Baba into doing what she wants takes that sympathy away. Baba is a victim through and through. His childhood masters molded him to become what they wanted him to be but his sense of goodness just kept trying to get out. Definitely recommend this series.

Don't watch the trailer
27 March 2023
Reading all the review all I read is that the trailer is misleading. I didn't watch the trailer nor did I read the reviews until I was deep in the movie. Matt Damon plays a version of what foreigners consider an American (I swear we're not all like that). I became enthralled by this movie not just because it had damn good writing, but also because I couldn't play on my phone while watching it cause of all the French it has and the fact very little stuck with me despite 4 years of HS French, damn, what a waste! But anyways, watch this movie if you like good movies and have someone near you for that ending, I'm still mopping around.

The Whale (2022)

So much bigger than a whale
4 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Although this movie had been out for quite some time, I was curious about watching it but not too intrigued. I then heard the morning DJ give it an amazing review and being the follower that I am I decided to watch it, and I'm so glad I did. Although this is not an action movie or suspensful in any way, this movie manages to capture your attention by the acting alone. No matter what gripes or discriminations you may have about this movie: that he's gay, that he's fat, that he abandoned his daughter, yes, he's as imperfect as they come and his benignness may be as false as we may want to believe it is, yet the protagonist portrays the emptiness that many of us feel, that no matter how much we feed that emptiness, be it by food, sex, drinking, smoking or whatever we use to feed that emptiness, many of us just can't fill it. Many of us just keep going to a point of destruction, to a point where nothing fits anymore, and just like the protagonist we purge it all out at some point. Brendan Frasier and Darren Aronofsky truly do what only a few actors and directors can manage to do in our world of short attention spans and tictoc. They manage to make us look, they manage to hold our attention long enough to care about the pain at least one of the actors carry. No matter who you're looking at, all these characters carry pain, and some don't want to care because caring means holding on to more pain. Brendan Frasier was truly amazing in this role and so were all the supporting actors and actresses. I do recommend this movie at least to see if you can recognize your own whale.

Nothing new but entertaining
9 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I've seen amazing movies with a 1 or 2 rating on here, and this mediocre movie (at best) has all these high ratings and praise, ha! Who does this? But I digress, watched this movie cause I was tired of seeing it come up on my feed to watch on Netflix. I know who Aubrey Plaza is and I'm not a big fan, she's alright. This movie started out with a lot of premise. Girl down on her luck with everything going downhill from there. Who hasn't been there right? Then she gets a proposition to do something that could help her but will cost her soul. As I was watching this movie there was a scene where suddenly the whole movie flashed before my eyes and I saw the rest of the movie and knew how it ended. Sure enough that's exactly what happened. How did I know? Because it's the same story over and over again on these D movies. Nothing new, nothing creative. It's entertaining if you have a some time to kill and definitely Oscar worthy if you've already burned most of your brain cells smoking it up. Otherwise it's the same mediocre movie I've seen over and over again. Watch it, or don't but don't expect an amazing movie or unseen creativity. This is another movie with the same plot period. Don't listen to those high reviews which are laughable. I only rated it what I did cause of Aubrey Plaza and Theo Rossi, otherwise it would get a 3...at best!

Good but it's no Tom Cruise
17 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I remember watching the movie when it came out back in the 90's. Watching Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt and Antonio Banderas looking so incredibly hot was just incomparable! That was a movie that made Kirsten Dunst. I walked out of that movie theater feeling like a vampire and apparently I wasn't the only one, since there was a report at the time of some guy biting his girlfriend because he felt like a vampire as well.

So to say that this series did not have that same intensity is an understatement. The comparisons will be unintentional but present at the same time. Yes some parts are better and make sense, like the homoeroticism. Because let's face it, Lestat didn't just want a buddy to hang out with, he wanted a companion, and not because he's gay but because he's bored. Honestly who wouldn't get bored of just women if you're forever young and your sexual prowess is at its peak?

I liked Kirsten's innocence in her portrayal of Claudia. A child pulled out of darkness into a world of excess with an unsatiable hunger. Her child tantrums and longing for a mother was sickly tender because although you knew she was a monster, you couldn't help but feel sad that she missed her mother. And I wish a little more story had been given to Joseph's actions. Perhaps they could have delved into how Lestat drove him to do what he did at the time.

Overall, yes, I think the series does have a much better story line, Sam Reid does do Lestat justice in terms of being hansome. But unfortunately Bailey Bass snaps you out of the fantasy. She seems older and doesn't portray in any way the same innocence Kirsten brought to that role. So overall, watch it, it is enjoyable, but know that you won't be transfixed by the vampires beauty quite the same way the movie vampires did. Good news is, you won't wanna bite anybody.

Wow! Wow! Wow!
6 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
What an outstanding movie. I honestly didn't think I would like this movie, but once it started going I just couldn't stop watching. The only reason I started watching is because of Viola Davis of course, but wow! The women cast really did women proud everywhere. It wasn't fantasy like many other movies play out, it portrayed the women as not only bad asses but as weaker than the men but more agile, stelthier and above all, more prepared. It also showed women as having feelings and having sentiment like normal women do. Many movies portray women as robots, taking their humanity away. For the most part the men relayed on their size and their strength, so yes they would win sometimes but lose when it counted because they weren't trained to fight.

Viola Davis and Sheila Atim walk and they seem like such bad asses that I couldn't help but be in awe in their portrayal. It is the habit of hater boys nowadays to write negative reviews and give poor scores to female led movies. Ignore those reviews and those scores and look at the real reviews. This is an amazing movie that will leave you content that you watched it, so yes watch it, preferably with a woman.

A horror movie with brains and not just gore
21 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I'm not a huge horror fan, as I got older my appetite for gore has decreased so this movie was a breath of fresh air.

I've watched the Halloween franchise movies for many years but I do enjoy the movies with Jamie Lee Curtis the most, and this particular trilogy has been the most enjoyable. In my opinion the series had the ending it deserved. Throughout the years Michael Myers was elevated to this mythical undying ghoul who terrorizes people leading up to halloween, but this movie gave him his comeuppance. I liked the fact that it was an actual movie and not just a gorefest like many of the previous movies. I liked that blood wasn't the main character making an appearance every other frame. Many people criticize the movie saying Michael came off as geriatric and slow but that's exactly what he is. If you take into account Michael was about 21 when he made his first appearance then he would be around his 80s. So yes he should be geriatric, slow and wounded cause he was wounded last time we saw him plus he's old and old folks don't heal as fast. He did retain some of the supernatural factor but bottom line, he is just like Laurie said, "just a man." I really enjoyed the ending he received so that there is no bs about him surviving. His end was very appropriate in saying without saying that he bleeds just like any other human, and yet in the end it is Michael's blood which spills the most. He was the boogeyman man and that boogeyman was given the end he deserved.

The story line about Corey makes sense in the fact that we see so many stans obsessing over him and wanting him to be real. Corey became what he became because that's what he was in the eyes of the town and he was never gonna be anything else. His story was also given the end he deserved by Michael because there's only 1 of him.

So if you like horror without the gore you will enjoy this particular end of an era.

Leaves you longing for more
2 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I watched this movie with no expectations. I knew the premise and I love both main actors: Tilda Swinton and Idris Elba, which is why I made it a point to watch this movie. This movie felt like watching a love song, a very beautiful long song performed by an orchestra. Where you can close your eyes and still see the story unfold before your eyes. This movie not only reminds us of heartbreak but also of the loneliness we carry around but don't face. It brought forth characters we didn't know would appear and an unexpected love story I couldn't help but fall in love with. I am Tilda in this story, I would make that same wish because to be loved the way he loved Althea is something only a few people have in this life. But to face the end that the love story succumbed to is the cruelty many of us face. I loved the story, I loved the music, I loved the way she tried to resist and be defiant to his gift, but most of all I loved the way she found that which she was missing but refused to face. Maybe she didn't know that's what her life was missing and that's what many of us tell ourselves in order not to feel like we failed in this life. Yet many of us cannot wish to have what's missing like in this movie. Only to keep on hoping for the return of that feeling that one day, we might have experienced.

Fall (I) (2022)

Nerve wracking at its best!
1 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
MAJOR SPOILERS!!! DONT READ IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED THE MOVIE!!!

I'll just come out and say it, I really enjoyed this movie! I actually cried out loud at the end. I didn't know I was holding my breath the last few minutes.

I'm not one of those people who watches movies just to try to guess the ending or to guess the next line; however, the movie does have some cliches: someone dying at the beginning, character having to overcome this death, betrayal. You know the usual cliches. But they were all expected. Not one of them was a surprise really. Once you get over the expected and you immerse yourself in the story and the nausea inducing views, you really enjoy this movie. Albeit a little too vertigo inducing, I did have to look away a few times. The heights shown are no joking matter. It's funny that one of the trivia facts say the characters weren't more than a few hundred feet from the ground, but more than 2 feet is too high. I'm not an adrenaline junky so I don't understand why people would put their lives at risk doing this but I respect it. The strength and endurance people who do this have is truly amazing.

All in all watch this movie, you will really enjoy it. It's a good family film or date night film, no awkwardness at any time. You'll enjoy the twist and the ending.

Monster (2022– )
10/10
This is how it's done!
24 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I'm not a fan of gory but I am a fan of good story telling. I remember when they captured dahmer, it was all over the news and i remember even more when they killed him. It was all over the front page in huge letters and it was a relief. This mini series is a spectacular piece of storytelling. It brings us into his evil world without glorifying him or making excuses. His father was always apologetic in a way that he wanted the recognition. Who could blame him really? Trying to take credit for the monster he nurtured. The mini series presents the people around him, from his family to his victims, to the people who suspected there was something wrong but didn't know exactly what, to the incompetent police (guess that never changes). At no point is dahmer made to be the anti hero or the one we should be rooting for. He was a very real monster who committed very real crimes and destroyed very real lives. I hope to think Ryan Murphy wanted to portray that in his writing.

We all know how this ends but I was right there with the inmate who brought his justice. I felt like I understood his mind set and although I had tears in my eyes, none of them were for dahmer. I also knew what had happened to all his things but watching the actor who portrayed this benefactor and the disgust he displayed for those around him who were fascinated by dahmer, I was right there with him as well. Feeling disgust for all those people who viewed him as some sort of idol. Even now there are still fools who idolize him and it's disgusting.

I cannot end without mentioning Niecy Nash's portrayal of the conflicted neighbor who didn't know how else to point to the monster next door. And his grandmother, who saved at least 1 life by not walking away. This story was brilliant indeed without feeling dirty afterwards by rooting for the evil who wasn't fiction.

Horrible!
18 September 2022
Just hearing this guy sing makes me cry. It's horrible! Just disgusting! Anybody that knows any song from Vicente Fernandez knows that he was El Rey not just as a saying, he truly was El Rey. His amazing voice brought you to tears in a good way because it was so beautiful not because it was a shameful disgrace like the music portrayed in this crap Netflix series. I understand no one will be able to compare vocally to the man who could sing to a stadium without a microphone, but they at least should have tried. I've seen many reviews praising the series and the actor but in my opinion it's nothing but a slap in the face to Chente and his memory. To Mexicans, Hispanics and all those who knew his music I say watch tentatively. Not only will the sound of the songs make you cringe but also get angry at the audacity of the casting director to think he could pass this off as Chente. To those who don't know Chente or his music, watch it as the work of fiction it is because no part of this is reminiscent of the great and one and only Vicente Fernandez.

Worth a watch
14 September 2022
So maybe it doesn't deserve a 10 but doesn't deserve the 1's either. Smartly made from 5 different places on earth. The build up adds to the uncertainty experienced by the characters. It slowly pulls us in so that we can somehow feel the same pain, loss, confusion and fear displayed on our screens. Im really enjoying the scenery, even if its just sand sometimes, but that's the beauty of watching series filmed in different locations. The special effects are also quite amazing. I've noticed that anytime a movie or series isn't only in English and God forbid we have to read what they're saying, the low reviews start pouring in. I'm on the third episode and find myself enjoying this series just like many other brilliant Apple+ originals. Give it a shot, you might actually enjoy it.

What a sicko!!!
9 September 2022
The meaty part of this documentary is the text messages and testimonials from the women he used. Their pain is unequivocal and the sanguine desire of this soul deprived ghoul is stomach churning. The history of where his need for depravity comes from becomes a little too entangled since it's not linear and they try to jump back to Armie sometimes as if an after thought. Three episodes doesn't seem enough since the story seems unfinished at the end of the third episode. These documentary makers need to talk to the makers of the R Kelly documentary to pick up pointers on how to finish and not seem to run out of gas after only 3 episodes.

Waste of time and of Idris Elba
4 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Wow! This is the most moronic movie I've seen in ages. Zero common sense went into the writing of this movie. I'm sorry but Idris should've said "I'm a doctor cause I'm too stupid to do anything else." The safari guy didn't know how to cauterize a bleed? Doubtful. Every single decision made by the characters in this movie makes you shake your head and think "why did I pay to watch this? I could be watching cartoons which make more sense than this movie." Guess the writer and director though no one watching had any brain cells. Oh yeah lets not forget Idris plan. Ok so imma get mauled byvthe big lion so u children can deal with the lion yourself, yet somehow the fool survives a few rounds against the lion, what bs! It's entertaining for small children albeit too violent for them. I want my $3 back plus the time I wasted seeing this movie.

3 amazing actresses, 2 standout portrayals
31 August 2022
Thus show is very entertaining. I didn't know Eleanor Roosevelt was such an amazing first Lady. Although i do agree her portrayal is very similar to her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher. I would have enjoyed her portrayal more if it hadn't turned into unproven propaganda. Michelle Pfeiffer just steals the show in these series. I'm so glad she came back to acting, she's always been a favorite of mine due to her unquestionable acting skills. Not only does she make Betty Ford a stand out, but she truly humanized her and her struggles. Finally, as much as I love, and I truly do love Viola Davis, I could not enjoy her portrayal of Michelle Obama. Every scene seemed to be of her and BO dancing and laughing. Were they meant to be the comic relief? I didn't think there was any chemistry between Viola Davus and the actor playing Barack. Overall it brought to light many issues I didn't know about these 3 ladies, especially Mrs. Roosevelt and Betty Ford. Simply amazing but a turn off by all the propaganda.

Corruption wins in this mess.
28 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I had never heard of this scandal, this person or the international mess it entailed. Started watching this documentary because it looked interesting. The first episode sets up the situation for this mess and the subsequent corrupt actions which makes her arrest and that of the others arrested with her questionable. Eventually it becomes a d*** measuring contest between the French and Mexican governments. Unfortunately Mexico is the one who comes out losing by putting its corruption in full display. The only ones losing in this event were the Mexican people, not because of either government or the presidents, but because of the agency AFI which did not follow the law and investigated the arrests without putting on a show for the cameras. We end up not knowing truly whether Florence was a part of this kidnapping gang or not. Funny enough all the people claiming that the boyfriend, his family and accomplices were targeted and weren't guilty, don't see that the kidnappings with this MO stopped. In my opinion he WAS guilty along with his gang. As for Florence? That we may never know the truth.

Here in west Texas...
27 August 2022
Gotta say, I wasn't expecting this. A film about a guy who goes to Texas, seen it over and over right? Not this. Not the slap in the face delivered to cynicism that'll leave you with a knot in your throat if not more. All the characters you'd expect are there, except for the racist uncle, but not in a way we're used to seeing them, a caricature of real people.

BJ Novak really out did himself with this film. You walk in expecting a mindless movie, something you can watch while aying on your phone, but by the end you'll wanna watch it again because you'll realize you might've missed out on something if not great at least worth paying attention to. It was a real surprise to see Ashton Kutcher playing such a great underhanded character and as someone else said it, stealing every scene he's in. By the end you will truly agree with wanting to make those regrets count. Watch it, you won't regret it.
