Les liens de sang (1978)
good movie-contains spoilers
I just watched this movie and was pleasantly surprised by the twist ending. I can normally sense those sort of surprises in film but this one I really did not foresee. It really was a good story, it was interesting but the beginning was a bit slow. I loved how Muriel was able to tell us her story through the use of the diary. Patricia was definitely screwed up, if she had been in love with her brother the whole time I am sure she would have been paying more attention to what he was doing and where he was going all the time. There would have been major jealousy issues for a while, but I think the two were only seeing each other for a month or so actually. Good movie, I thought about changing the station once or twice but I'm glad I waited it out.
Heavenly Creatures (1994)
Heavenly Creatures vs. Fun- PLEASE READ AND LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK
the "folie a deux" that you are talking about really reminds me of the movie "Fun". have you seen that? Fun is a similar story about two young girls, also with a sexual obsession who commit a murder. Their murder is not for any personal gain though but more of an experiment, the same as their sexuality I suppose. I watched both of these movies when I was very young, probably 11 or 12 and I must say they had quite prestigious effects on my development. Insanity is a topic that we are all afraid to think too hard about for the worry that our own minds will slip. It is scary because it could happen, it happens easily to these normal people. How do we know it won't happen to us, or that it hasn't happened already? Know what I mean? Perhaps that is why these movies have such intrigue. Murder is another reserved topic. There is murder committed by police or do gooders against the criminal but then there is blood splattered, over the edge, past the brink of sanity murder. Who says where the line is drawn? Taking someone's life is the same whether you are Vin Disel in "Walking Tall"(total acceptable non insane revenge killings that are accepted by the public for some reason) or if you are Mickey Knox in "Natural Born Killers" (disgusting, sick actions of a mind that is sickened and poisoned) They both use guns as a weapon of choice sometimes right, where is the difference? back on topic, good movies-both of them-but for some reason I wouldn't want to recommend them to anyone, or watch them with anyone else, for "fear" that perhaps they would think I too was sick. Does that make any sense? How we can be ashamed to find these movies interesting?
Dark Water (2005)
here's a tip
I have not seen this film yet but earlier today I was watching a review that might help out for those with confusion about what Dark Water is trying to portray. The movie Dark Water is supposed to be a deep psychological thriller centering around issues of abandonment as a child. It is not supposed to be a typical horror movie but much more of a deep thinker. I will definitely see it for myself as soon as it releases here and then I suppose I will have a better picture! Has anyone seen this so far who can agree or disagree with this? P/S I am also not a very big fan of the Ring or Ring 2, I mean the ring did give me nightmares for a bit but really it wasn't all that great. I have heard that these movies are VERY similar, the Ring also was a bit of a thinker. Thanks
War of the Worlds (2005)
great film
Just wanted to say that War of the Worlds was just as great as I had anticipated. Tom Crusie's character was slightly off-colored but still lovable. I was worried that they were not going to pull the ending together properly but was pleasantly surprised by how good it finished off. Dakota Fanning, awesome like always. One thing, they could have borrowed those aliens directly from Independence Day, they were practically identical!!! Found Tim Robbin's character to be a bit strange, does anyone have any thought on what the basement scenes with Robbins were actually meant to symbolize? Oh, also the sound really made a big impact in this film. The sound of the glass breaking actually made me cringe with pain! Great effect.
