Better than most films nowadays
9 July 2009
I saw this movie based on a recommendation of the Blockbuster staff and without knowing the plot. I was pleasantly surprised! Granted, this film won't be an Oscar winning one.

The good: Well developed plot line. Action wasn't excessive. Next to no gore. Characters were given depth. Actors did a great job(except one, I'll go into that later). Music was well-picked. Dialogue made sense and wasn't cheesy.

The bad: Some of the names of the "powers" people possessed weren't explained, making it a little confusing, but overall it didn't take away from the film. The monumental thing that was bad was Dakota Fanning's acting. Who picked this character for her? It was a horrible match. Someone should tell her to stick to a more "girly" role in the future.

Overall: It would be a good idea to see this film. It's a fun joyride in a fictional world without being too fictional. It's a good adult/teen/older kids film. If you have 2 hours to spare, I highly recommend this film.

I can honestly say it didn't compare
13 November 2008
I've had an addiction to these books ever since I started reading them. They're fantastic. So when I heard they were making a movie, I was really excited.

Not only has the movie not been released in the US, and therefore I had to go through a lot of trouble to see it, but I can honestly say that the movie didn't compare at all to the books.

The acting was superficial, there were awkward moments that shouldn't have been awkward(awkward between the actors acting the scene), and everything that developed over one novel was crammed into only a couple minutes.

I can understand wanting to watch this movie for the gist of the books, but I must say it's well worth more of your time to actually read the book.

Another Flop
15 July 2007
I grew up reading these books. It got me through the boring days at school, thinking of what J.K. Rowling was going to write next. As the series went on I got more and more excited. My mom and I would always be at Borders at midnight, screaming for the next book. However, this movie has destroyed the magic spun so delicately by Rowling. The movies kept forgetting little details, and switching directors each movie has screwed this series up royally. The lack of attention to detail is abundant and was completely ignored so they could spit the movies out and make it easier for the people who are too lazy to read the books. This movie, at the beginning, was on a good track, leading everyone into the story as Harry Potter once again arrives at Hogwarts. But as the movie began to climb toward the climax, the film steadily declined. The storyline unwound, the characters and plot didn't make sense, and the messy attention to detail showed.

After loving the books, I'm planning on not attending the sixth or seventh movies, and am warning everyone who loved the books to be cautious when attending this movie.

Not So-So Good
12 January 2007
I only gave this movie a four- it may just be me but the plot was hard to follow and they didn't explain the characters well enough(therefore getting me confused about them). I really was looking forward to seeing this movie, and when it came out of DVD I freaked and almost punched the Blockbuster person when they wouldn't let me check it out because it was R and I wasn't on my parents' 'above 16' list.

When I finally got it however, I turned it off an hour into the movie. It had some redeeming qualities, such as a GOOD plot line, even if it was difficult to follow. The underdeveloped characters were confusing when 'Bucky', as the narrator, was talking about them. Just another thing: I wanted to see the body. They only showed you quickly once or twice.

Many people said this movie was good- and if maybe I were older I could understand it more and therefore like the movie more.

Truly a Disappointment
22 December 2005
When I went into the theater, I had very high expectations- especially after reading the books- but when I came out of the theater, I was shaking my head and regretting spending 7 bucks on this movie. By far one of the worst I've seen. It seemed the only thing interesting in the theater was my popcorn that I was eating.

I thought that the special effects were fine, but there was a matter of the storyline and actually bringing the heart of the story to the big screen. It didn't catch my interest as the books did. The actors also did an OK job, but I thought the movie was quite horrible compared to what reviews I'd read.
