Amy (III) (2015)

In a nutshell...

After watching AMY, I left the theatre thinking more about the consequences of fame rather than just the "life of Amy Winehouse". A classic case of fame eating up a beautifully brilliantly gifted young woman who finally lost control of her life. I felt so terribly sad as her life unraveled yet listening to her sing was mesmerising and exhilarating. Such a waste and such a shame she couldn't be helped or saved. There is no doubt she was one of the most talented musicians of our century. The early footage of a 14 year old Amy singing with her girlfriends is priceless and there is no questioning that she was born with a gift... she couldn't be saved and fame came at the worst price. Go and see Amy just to understand how fame can go so horribly wrong...

"Susan Cooper (Melissa McCarthy) is an unassuming, desk bound CIA analyst, and the unsung hero behind the Agency's most dangerous missions. But when her partner (Jude Law) falls off the grid and another top agent (Jason Statham) is compromised, she volunteers to go deep undercover to infiltrate the world of a deadly arms dealer, and prevent a global disaster".

Took the family (husband, 15 yr old son and 2 x 13 yr olds) to see this M plus rated movie. Think James Bond spoof. I wondered if I was displaying "bad parent" behaviour by showing them a movie that clearly expressed there was violence, swearing and nudity in it. In my eyes the humour factor far outweighed the above. We all thought it was very funny and the one liners throughout the movie are well placed; more along the lines of an English comedy. It's silly and fun and will make you laugh.

Yes their is violence but can we call it "ridiculous unbelievable violence"? that can't be taken seriously; nudity; a nano second of an appendage or two; loads of the "f" word and reverence to body parts. Yes it probably was a little South of the cartoon South Park and Family Guy but if you're open minded and accepting that the kids hear all this in the schoolyard, go and have a laugh. All the actors are well cast and everyone in our family and in the theatre walked out of the theatre with a big smile on their faces. Thumbs up for a silly funny ridiculous James Bond spoof.

Woman in Gold (2015)

Warning: Spoilers
Returning art to it's rightful owner? Who will win?

Really enjoyed this movie and found it totally engaging story. It's a powerful story that really moves you. Moving between the present and the past works well and makes what could have been a slightly complicated story easy to follow and very engaging.

Helen Mirren is just fabulous as Maria and I wouldn't be surprised if she is nominated for an award for her performance. Ryan Reynold's character as the lawyer is only "so so" and probably the weakest actor in the movie. (Placing wire frame glasses on him does not necessarily make him a believable lawyer). All other performances were great and this is definitely a movie I would say to go and see.

I would take my 70 year old mum, husband and kids (aged 12/14 and 15) to see it because I know they would enjoy this lovely story of justice prevailing. I would have given it a 9 but Ryan lost the extra mark! Definitely a Thumbs up from me.

They certainly didn't let the truth get in the way of telling a good story when they wrote this one and I imagine apart from the fact that the Princess' went outside of the Palace to join in the VE celebrations I think that's about where it ends.

In saying that the movie is light and fluffy and watchable and more a good rainy day movie to watch at home. I think my 70 year old mum would love this movie as would my 12 year old daughter as it is a cute and light movie; enjoyable to watch; sweet and romantic. I thought "P1 and P2" were great actors and made the movie for me and probably they are the main reason I would give this movie a 3/5 rather than a 2.

A watchable light movie with a fairytale storyline.
