House of Cards (2013)
Season 4 is the best so far
Bravo for an excellent season of House of Cards. Frank Underwood is back, "better" than ever.. pure evil incarnated who will show no mercy. I have to admit that after season's 3 fiasco I was ready to give up on the series. I am so glad I didn't. It is actually better than the first season which rarely if ever happens. It starts out strong and will leave you wanting for more. Acting is perfect all around and photography is inspiring. Only drawback in my opinion is the Doug character who seems to be repeating himself and is at times boring and miserable to watch. If you liked season 1 prepare to be amazed by 4. Can't wait for 5..
Haven (2010)
Good come back
Strong comeback for Haven. I really enjoyed the new troubles. Its refreshing that the whole story does NOT evolve any more around Audrey and her being special, beautiful, smart, the best at everything which was very annoying during the last few seasons. I wanted to see more of Mara though, her character was unpredictable and the only one that could give answers to the troubles. Plus she dressed way better than Audrey and was quite funny. I think that finally Audrey and Nathan became a good match as they are now both irritating, obnoxious heroes wannabe that basically only care for each other. Bravo for that. I might go as far as to say that this new "improved" version of annoying Audrey makes Nathan look a tiny bit more likable. If they keep the focus on the troubles, the supporting characters and Duke and avoid the disgusting, most annoying couple Audrey-Nathan i think the rest of the season will run smoothly. Great plot concept, bad protagonists, interesting supporting characters and awful romance(audrey-nathan), thus a 7.
Stoker (2013)
An epic waste of time
Two minutes into the film and you have a scene where the main female character India is bursting a pus filled blister in her foot. I fail to see the importance, poetry or necessity of such a scene other than to make the viewer stop watching the film. In retrospect I must admit I should have stopped watching right then and there. The films title is misleading because it has nothing to do with stokers, its just India's surname which by itself is imo lame. Stoker is the story of a mentally disturbed girl India, who is getting more psychotic when her father mysteriously dies. Then she meets her uncle, a violent psychopath who enjoys brutally murdering people he "loves" and has a weird and unexplained fixation with her. Together they discover how much fun killing is. Finally India after discovering that her beloved uncle has slaughtered most of her family decides to go away with him, but at the last minute changes her mind, shoots him and goes away on her own, starting her own murderous mayhem. What is the point of this horrible movie?? An epic waste of time. Why do I have to watch a girl jerking off with strangling someone? This is a horrible, disturbed, sick and pointless film imo that should never have been made. I gave 2 stars because of Kidmans performance. Utter crap and waste of time.
Wayward Pines (2015)
A bad version of Lost
I have to start by saying that I was amazed of how bad an actor Matt Dillon is. I actually thought he was good and quite accomplished. What a let down.. He has the same expression throughout the series. The first episode was painfully boring, banal and full of clichés (especially the hospital scenes). Then it gets better. The main character is acting stupid over and over. The show is badly written and the acting is wooden. There is the mystery though that keeps your interest. Just barely though for all the aforementioned reasons. Plus you simply don't care what will happen to the main characters, if they live or die its all the same. Best thing about Wayward Pines is without any doubt Juliete Lewis. Its like a bad version of "Lost", with poor acting and awful characters.
Sense8 (2015)
Repetitive, boring and more of the same
I think four stars is quite generous. And that is because it has great photography, the acting is decent and it seems that a lot of money has been spent into making this series. And thats all im afraid. I have watched five episodes so far and nothing has happened plot wise. You just see the same thing over and over again. The characters keep seeing each other while doing random things. The only story worth seeing is that of Nomi/Michael who by the way is the only one who actually wants to find out why she is "hallucinating". Followed by the story of the copper which seems to hint some kind of progress. The rest is boring, the same, and more boring. How many episodes does this series needs to get to the point? Or simply explain or even hint why these people are connected and who wants to harm them? And more importantly will we be around to find out? The first episode was good although its pace was slow. The rest is the same nothing over and over again. I recommend watching the first episode and then jump to 11th if you are firm on watching this show. Or do something better with your time. Thats what i'll do.
Battlestar Galactica (2004)
Give it a shot
8 stars from me for Gallaktika and I think it deserves it, especially if you consider that the show is really old. Personally I was expecting the special effects to be ridiculous but that is not the case, they are in fact surprisingly realistic. The cast is OK, what one would expect from a television series, that is above average most of them. The story keeps you wanting more. What I liked most about BSG is the metaphors and the messages is conveying. The war between humans and their creations is essentially a depiction of the humanity's struggle of its good and dark side. In the end what is the quality that differentiates us from other beings? And what is the lesson that we are teaching our children? Have we learned from our mistakes? BSG broaches issues that are still relevant like that of racism, evolution, spirituality and equality. What defines humanity and what makes us who we are? And I think the ultimate question, can humanity rise and is it worthy? (I am really curious to see the conclusion of this series as I have only watched 2 seasons till now)
Devil's Playground (2014)
Brilliant
Brilliant mini TV series. Devil's Playground is inspired from the 1976 film Devil's Playgroung and it is kind of a sequel to it. I haven't watched the 1976 film (although after watching the series I would like to) and didn't find any difficulties following the narrative of the series. It is a mystery situated in 1988 Australia, after the disappearance of a thirteen year old boy from a Catholic school. A beautifully made psychological thriller about the 1980's society and the church. Very realistic. The plot unravels really smooth, there are plot twists and what I enjoyed most about this series is that the characters are not what they appear to be, like in real life. The acting is great and I absolutely loved John Noble as Bishop Vincent Quaid (he is a great actor and I wish he had his own show). I couldn't stop watching, as I was so intrigued to see what happens next. I highly recommend it.
Supernatural (2005)
more of the same
First seasons were great and very funny up to season 5. Then the show is getting worse, not better. I understand the writer wanted to finish the series in season 5 and well thats kind of obvious, as it goes downhill from that point. Also the fact that every female character hero or villain is killed is a bit annoying. As for this season more of the same.. Season 10 was the worse yet.. plus very dull in comparison to others.. mainly filler episodes that weren't even funny.. Winchesters are by definition insane.. "Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." - Albert Einstein.. oh and Dean was right, Sam is evil, he knowingly unleashed Darkness and the end of the world to save Dean (who will eventually die as he is part of the world).. Insane.. plus he was all over Deans case when he did it for him last season.. Insane.. SuperInsanity..
