Tales of the Walking Dead (2022)
GIVE IT A REST!! ITS DONE THIS SERIES
How many off shoots do we have to have thrown in our face from the original series..it's just not interesting or entertaining any longer..The original series went longer than it should of, then we had Fear the walking dead..now this rubbish.
Dark (2017)
A wonderful masterpiece of television
Usually I'm not a huge fan of television series where I have to do more reading than listening but this show is an exception.
I'm.oy in the middle of season 1 and I have to say it's a beautifully filmed show. Beautiful and crime shows don't usually go hand in hand but the way the characters are portrayed and the storyline which keeps you in the edge and always thinking is just brilliant. The setting for the show is as mesmerising as the plot.
Film making at it's best.
Gold (2016)
Gold!
I don't have much to say about the movie as I think a 10 probably says it all. Firstly I'll just say this about Matthew McConaughey...He is an amazing actor..full stop. I would even go further to say, probably one of the best actors of this generation. If this movie was put forward in this year's Oscar's, portraying Gold prospector Kenny Wells, I have no doubt Matthew would have won best actor, hands down! The movie itself was fantastically shot with amazing props and costumes representing the 80's era perfectly. Something else that caught my ears was the amazing soundtrack. Not the normal songs you would hear from an 80's era movie, by a very alternative soundtrack. Artists like Iggy Pop, Joy Division and The Pixies, just to name a few. The movie itself..watching it I had this feeling of gunning for the underdog in the big world of stocks and commodities, however the film never really delved deep into the impact of what these companies have on the smaller communities, which is obviously a deliberate path...definitely worth a watch and if you had any doubt of McConaugheys acting...just watch this.
Preacher (2016)
Okay then...
What just happened?..where am i? Have I just died and gone...somewhere? I'll be honest, I have never seen the comics and maybe there is a reason. One minute I'm in Space, then Africa, then listening to a preacher in some back blocks church in country USA, then I'm in an airplane 30,000 feet up in the air watching some gangsters "flying high" before one of them jumps out of a plane with an umbrella after killing everyone else on-board. Then watching some crazy woman having a fight in a speeding car through cornfields before she makes a bazooka with some soup cans and tin soldiers and blowing a helicopter out of the sky...okay, are you still with me...if you are we then head to Russia, for about 2 minutes...then we are back in the USA watching some guy with a mouth like a baboons backside talking to the preacher..wow, I'm exhausted!..oh and did I mention Tom Cruise explodes!! ..and that all happens in about 20 minutes...I'm sorry, I need a pill and go to sleep...stay tuned..not!...I'm sure by the other reviews, this is obviously something I've missed out on and I apologize for my ignorance hence my score of 5...because that's where I feel I am...stuck in the middle...somewhere.
Vikings (2013)
Vikings vs GOT
I'm a huge fan of Game of Thrones and even though is so much going on in the one episode, the brain processes everything by the end of the show and before you know it, you are salivating waiting for the next episode. Vikings. I know they are not even on par in regards to the story line however there is that question Vikings or GOT? When I first started watching Vikings, and it took a while for me to make that step, the first thing I felt was that I was comparing it to GOT straight away. That was the wrong thing to do. Firstly Vikings is based on non fictional history. Game of thrones is Fantasy. The comparison is like comparing apples with pears, so don't expect Vikings to be like GOT. Vikings holds its own story line from the opening scene. The Vikings characters are solid, rock solid, reminding me of WWF characters. Ragnar Lothbrok is the main character and actor Travis Fimmel whom I had never heard off, especially since he is an Aussie actor, is fantastic in this role. He is backed up with a solid cast including his fiery and fierce wife Lagertha played by Katheryn Winnick. Going back to comparing it to GOT, you can tell the budget for Vikings seems a lot less but even though this may be the case, it holds its own. Going into its fourth season I feel Vikings is losing its story line. There are only so may "raids" you can take as every one seems to be the same. The Nordic characters I love, every one of them. The English characters, not so. They lack something and I'm not sure what it is yet. King Ecbert is good, but the rest lack the mongrel that you would expect from an English King ruling in those days. There are plenty of fighting scenes and for those who don't mind a bit of gore, you won't be disappointed. I will keep watching as I think it is a very good series but for those who think they are going to get a GOT like series, you may be a bit disappointed.
The Bridge (2013)
Bridge over troubled waters
okay, where to start. I haven't watched the original European series but I believe it received rave reviews. The story here is not that original. USA v Mexican drug cartels add in a serial killer. If you enjoyed the films Traffic, Escobar and Sicario this may be right up your alley. It starts with a murder on the border of USA and Mexico on the bridge between Texas-Chihuahua border. From there the series takes us on a roller coaster road of drug trafficking, drug cartels, murders, lots of murders, human trafficking and kidnapping and corruption. What I liked the most about this series is the in depth character details. The lead detective on the US side is annoying and frustrating, but she is meant to be and it works as she is teamed with a totally opposite raspy detective from the Mexican side. Together they form a formidable yet shaky team with each having their own agendas and different ways of operating. Its a likable series and keeps you switched on even though it does drop of here and there but in the end you wont be disappointed.
Banshee (2013)
Bangshee!
If there a petition to keep this amazing show going, please let me know. It's the only decent, original cult following show on the box that I enjoyed watching and kept me wanting more. It had everything, action, drama, mystery and it was sexy. The only gripe I had with the last season was Hood never got back into the position of Sheriff, Brock was good and always likable but he's not Lucas Hood. Everything was tied up in a bit of a rush in the end and we still didn't know one thing that may or may not have happened, maybe for a reason. Not quite sure why there were only 8 episodes to the season. If we don't ever see the gang again and that is the end, goodbye Hood and Co, and farewell from Banshee.
The Following (2013)
Imagine a tyre bouncing down a hill...
Two years ago there was hope that a new series was on the brink of a new formula..however the formula has changed...and as my summary states...imagine a tyre on the top of a hill...you push it down that hill...it bounces this way and that way...it twists it turns..then it hits the bottom...rock bottom...unfortunately The Following has taken this same path. OK, it was never rock solid in its storyline however the last series, series 3, has gone beyond ridiculous and unbelievable. Yes it's just a TV show sure, but why the "Keystone cops" approach. Dragging out scenarios is boring, impossible occurrences are laughable, shoot outs are spaghetti western like..the characters have lost their basis, there is no substance to the past and if you are going to change one of the main characters, just be done with it. Unfortunately I watched this entire third season and if for some unknown reason they make a fourth..I will probably waste my time watching the tyre somehow rebound from its finale to miraculously see it start rolling down the hill again.
