Amazing movie - Best I've seen in a while
24 May 2024
I went to this movie not expecting a lot and not knowing much about the story. I was totally engrossed from the beginning. It was really amazing, and I don't say that about very many movies. This being a true story makes it even better. You will meet this amazing doctor at the start of the movie, travel back in time to his upbringing, and back to the present time when he devotes his life to helping people gain or regain their sight. Acting was marvelous. When the movie ended, I sat pretty much stunned by how it moved me. This studio is known for making faith-based films, but that is not central to the story.

Don't let this movie get by you - see it before it's gone.

Cute movie

Even as an older lady (approaching 80), I thought this was an enjoyable movie. Maybe it's geared for teenagers, but I liked it anyway. It was original, well acted, and just fun, with a few chuckles that not everyone would get. Makeup was well done, as was costuming. Some silliness like trying to escape a scary intruder by passing by the front door to run upstairs and climb out a window, but I suspect that was intentional. If you enjoy a little dark humor, gore, bugs and worms, and charm all in one, you might enjoy this silly little movie. Even a happy ending that wasn't really happy, which will make more sense after you see the movie.

Slow moving, boring, drivel.

Oh my gosh. I thought this movie would never end. I just could not make myself care about any of the characters in this movie except maybe the father of the girls. The character Jo was so irritating that I don't see how she could have ever made a friend, and certainly not with the professor. I would not want to spend more than five minutes with her. The movie's moving from past to present was hard to follow because with the exception of one character, the actors always looked the same age. I couldn't find any of the romantic match-ups believable, nor could I find the relationships among the sisters as touching as I was supposed to. Nothing about the story, the characters, or the relationships seemed authentic.

Better Than I Expected
23 March 2018
As a frequent movie goer, this was just about my only choice today since I've seen the other movies that are playing now. I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. I expected it to cater to teenagers, which is mostly did, but as a person in my 70s, I enjoyed it too. It does tug at the heartstrings, which I find manipulative, but it wasn't too hard to hold back the tears. The acting is very good except for Schwarzenegger, who is just OK as an actor, but his being so easy on the eyes makes up for it. The plot is predictable; anyone can pretty much guess correctly what's going to happen along the way, but for a romance-type movie, that's just what they do. And there are some plot holes, like Katie knowing how to swim when she's never been in the sun and her house doesn't have a swimming pool, and her attending a swim meet to watch Charlie swim but no explanation as to how she got from her house safely to the car and from the car safely to the swim arena. She had on a hoodie, but if that's all it takes, she could go out more often during the day instead of having been cooped up in her house during the day for all of her life. And if exposure to the sun for one day is deadly, how did she get home from the hospital when she was born before they knew she had this disorder. None the less, it's a good enough movie - just a little sappy - but I think the kids will love it.
