Untitled Horror Movie (2021)
Went in with low expectations but was pleasantly surprised
I honestly didn't expect much from this movie but I was bored and couldn't find anything else to watch so, here we are. The characters were played as stereotypes, which was perfect and the actors were really good at portraying them. The premise of the movie was inventive and the writing was good. I laughed a lot and jumped a couple of times. If you're looking for a lot of jump scares or things of that nature, this isn't your movie. If you want some laughs and a humorous send up of horror movies, this is a must see. I probably rated it a star or 2 higher than I should have but I based the rating on what I expected and what I got from the movie. Oh, and the ending of the movie is really awesome. A nice little twist.
Braven (2018)
I really enjoyed Braven
If you accept this movie for what it is...an action/thriller...it is pretty awesome. It's not trying to be Macbeth...it's trying to entertain and I think that it succeeded wonderfully at that. There is action, humor and a great family dynamic and I think that the actors did a great job in their roles. I really enjoyed it. And it stars Jason Momoa, so, yeah.
Bad Times at the El Royale (2018)
My New Favorite Movie
I love the intensity and the twisting and turning of the storytelling. I love how they withhold information and then take us back in time to show the backstories of the characters. It definitely has a Tarantino feel...and I mean that in a very good way. The tension, the violence, the setting and the dialogue are so old school. The cast is excellent and the characters that they portray are captivating and complex. And Miles is a revelation! It definitely deserves a 10 so don't pay attention to the people that gave it the lower ratings. Watch it!! You will not be disappointed.
Destination Wedding (2018)
My New Favorite Movie
I absolutely loved this movie. It's been a while since a movie made me laugh out loud. I'm actually still giggling about parts of the movie. Some seriously great one liners and hilarious scenes...some low key and some low brow. This isn't a syrupy sweet rom-com which is 1 of the reasons I loved it. I liked the sarcastic snarky and slightly prickly interaction between the the 2 characters. And it doesn't hurt that I love Keanu and Winona. They play off of each other so perfectly. Give it shot.
Family Possessions (2016)
I thought it was great
It was creepy with a good number of jump scares, some dread, and some humor. I thought the ending had a nice twist to it. The acting by some was a bit wooden at times but not so much so that I'd deduct a star. There were some good secondary characters that added to the movie. Give it a chance.
Hell Fest (2018)
Loved This! (Just a little bit of a spoiler at the very end of my review)
Creepy, lots of action, some gore, a little humor...what more could you ask for from a movie called Hell Fest? I love horror and have gotten a little bored lately with the latest crop of movies. This 1 definitely kept me interested because the action didn't stop and you didn't know if what was happening was part of the horror theme park set up or something more sinister. The characters were interesting and the main character was an intelligent woman as were the other females. The actors were great as were the sets and props. I deducted a star for the ending. It wasn't a bad ending but it left a little to be desired. (Spoiler Ahead) I felt a slightly let down after the rest of the movie but I suppose we can look forward to Hell Fest 2 and that's not a bad trade off.
It Follows (2014)
Why is it so highly rated?????
I love the horror/thriller/supernatural genre. And I love it when filmmakers come up with new innovative ideas. But I absolutely hated this movie. I watched it twice and tried watching a few other times but I was totally and completely bored out of my mind. There was nothing interesting or scary about any part of the movie. I don't need slashing or gore to enjoy horror. I actually prefer movies that keep me on the edge of my seat, guessing and anticipating what's coming next. I wasn't on the edge of my seat. I wasn't guessing. I wasn't anticipating anything but the end of the movie. I was waiting for the entire movie for 1 single frightening thing to happen. After the 1st viewing I just knew that I had to have missed something so I waited a week or so and watched it again. Same results. The other times I tried watching it, I gave up...out of total and complete boredom...I can't reiterate the total and complete boredom part of my review enough. It was pretentious and I think that some people jumped on the bandwagon because it was the "it" movie at the time. The only message that it had was "don't have sex or you'll catch something". Do yourself a favor and don't waste your time watching this movie.
Huang mian lao hu (1974)
Slaughter in San Francisco
That's what it was called when I saw it sometime around 1982. It was playing in a rundown theater in Denton, TX with my then boyfriend. We were in college in Denton and were huge Chuck Norris fans. We'd seen every 1 of his movies up to that point and the theater was advertising this 1. It was so bad that it played like a comedy. The dubbing was so awful that the dog physically barked and then you heard it 5 seconds later. Aside from this 1, I still like his movies.
