Dune (2021)

This is it, this is The Dune, the Art
19 November 2022
This simply is The Dune movie. By the book. That Book. Incredibly close to the reminiscence of the moments you have spent on reading that Book, days and nights. With a few things more tangible. The first - Scenes. Pictures here are true art. Did my fantasy brought Saudarkars as scary as here? Worms, were they so incredibly incredible in my memories? The universe itself, was it so beautifully gloomy ... as in the movie? Maybe, but not in cinema quality :-). The second - music. Well, does his name really need a comment? The third - Paul. I mean - Timothee. Very good choice. The fourth - Zendaya. I knew her from Disney channel and I could not believe how well she actually fit in this movie. Ok, that's not all one can say about this piece of art. Just see it. Great one, hats off, Mr. Villeneuve.

Eye-pleasing horror entertainment
12 November 2022
I'm always at awe when seeing these movies where every little detail is so amazingly well integrated into the whole picture, giving us one consistently colorful scary experience.

Compliments aside, this movies is a easy, yet entertaining story of murder and love, perfectly packed into wonderful visuals, accompanied by decent acting performance and absolutely fitting music. It will not make you think of hidden sense or your own life, it will not cause you unease or discomfort and you will get perfectly right dose of scare. Lovely. Reminds me of 1992 Dracula of FF Coppola or 1999 Sleepy Hollow of T. Burton.

Gloomy reality wrapped in humorous cover.
25 December 2021
Having two soon-to-be-adult kids at home, daily reality of shallow art, dull side of social media and omnipresent commercial culture saturated with consumption is what I have to face. Enrich this with far more disturbing tentacles of omnipotent corporations and corrupted politicians and you get the stage for the movie ready. Satire at its best, mirror to the world we live in. This movie is far more than a comedy full of stars. Witnessing my daughter turning tiktok off after seeing it, I cannot but rate it 9 of 10.

Laughable, enjoyable and easy to swallow
14 November 2021
Trailer gives a lot about what this movie is, brisk dialogs, well exercised action scenes, hardly believable twists.

Shortly - this is Indiana Jones with Reynolds and Johnson in main roles. We had quite a few laughs with my daughter, no thinking, just consuming this well done, easy to swallow movie steak, colorful, adventurous and laughable.

Wonderful adaptation, impressively scary.
13 November 2021
I saw the original one as a kid. That's probably why it made so lasting effect on me. I was uneasy about returning the nightmare from my childhood, but I did and I am not sorry, because this adaptation is one of the best horror movies ever made.

Movie greatly illustrates characters of kids being bullied and the way they change under the circumstances they are being exposed to. This is the core of the movie. Pennywise delivers greatly setup nightmare illusions, wonderfully timed and with genuinely frightening execution. These scenes are so great that I feel a shiver down my spine whenever I recall them. Impressively scary.

And that all would be sufficient alone, but the depth this movies has contains all the Steven King had in his book, twisted parents and the - sadly so true - decisive way they impact the lives of their children. It is a show here to watch and realize how difficult is to stay mentally healthy with freaks around. Fortunately, the recipe is here - stay with friends, rely on them and you can get over anything, insane parents and murderous clowns alike.

It still is possible to come with something new
29 August 2021
What makes me write this review is the mind-pleasing opening part of the movie with original story injected in form of retro sequences. For a while, it reminded me the taste of 2008 "Let the right one in". After the beginning, movie slipped back to what it was probably meant to be - high paced horror movie, rather shallow than deep with respectful consumption of red color. But don't take me bad, it does the job well, keeping you entertained till the end. The original background savor stays as a cherry on cake. One would just think "what if they develop characters and make the movie deeper". Would it bring us another memorable vampire history?

If you liked the first one, do not ruin the aftertaste by watching the second
11 July 2021
The first IT movie was well done, decent remake of the original cult horror. Simple and well known story, yet rich enough for that kind of movie and not boring, even you know in advance what this is about. Significant level of terror and nightmares with no overdose of CGi effects.

You'd say, well why not to watch the second one.

The second movie has all the ingredients that'd make it at least acceptable continuation of the first one. What really ruins it is incredibly unreal plan that the protagonists construct to get rid of the clown. It is odd, unbelievably unsuitable, complicated. Result of convulsive effort to come with something convincing and making sense. A lot of "we must do this", empty talks, strange symbols, decisions you do not understand, irrelevant and senseless plot. Why, why, why... And the worst is the final battle. So many of "this is the final moment". So many scares that stopped being scary. So many twists that are not interesting.

My older daughter - fan of the first one - fell asleep in the middle. I was sorry not to, 'cos I have seen all the blunder myself.

Dark medieval journey in which two men would deserve whole screen time
17 May 2021
Short review today: This movie is generally about two guys traveling together from point A to point B, having a few fighting moments "en passant". The story is simple, honor-packed ending ... acceptable. As far, nothing convincing. Yet there's something interesting in this movie, lets start from the smallest things to the best:

Good fight scenes, especially sword fights of. Lyutobor.

Great choreography and camera.

Awesome sceneries and overall "mediaval" look including costumes (in my opinion just the music was little ... monochromatic). Plus for believable portrait of uneasy coexistence of multiple religions, yet with no deep thoughts or hidden aims, just as it should be.

What this movie shines with are two main characters, Lyutobor and Konitsa. Perfect choice of actors for these two, Aleksandr Kuznetsov really fits and shines. Together they make the movie very enjoyable..

Closing though: Should their journey be longer with less words told and honor and nobility intrigues suppressed, this movie could become a legend.

But it is still worth watching.

Hell a lot of fun while watching horror movie
28 December 2020
How beautifully made this movie is. Perfect atmosphere, colors, scenes, background, all fits well. Very light horror movie for a night when all you want is to cut yourself from real life with all its dramas and horrors and have a scary moments without deep or disturbing movie in front of you. This is scary fairytale done so beautifully with a lot of imagination. Thanks to that you will not forget for a while that this is just unreal fun. Turn off lights, get a blanket, some popcorn so that you don't have to stand up. Make sure that who likes to be scared sits with you and the rest of housemates don't interrupt you. And... no evil deeds will go unpunished.

Jim Cummings' solo
25 December 2020
Snow Hollow has a young soon-to-be sheriff, tangled by avalanche of personal problems, following him wherever he is, be that at work (father) or at home (daughter). He's got terrible issues with alcohol, control of his emotions and he's not handling stress easily. Which is exactly what the town brings when local police is not able to clarify multiple strange murders, all looking like werewolf attacks. All is good about the movie, snowy sceneries are perfect background for the story, action scenes are fine, including interesting way of mixing fragments from the "after attack" and "attack" scenes together. Good acting of all actors and non-trivial story and the action finish. Yet there's one thing about the movie which makes it exceptional (positive or negative way...?) and this is the performance of Jim Cummings himself. Jim Cumming steals the show here, he's so perfectly portraying the main character. Damn perfectly, as much as you may forget what is the movie about. Like the murders and stuff, that's just the side story, kind of...

Come back when there's nothing to live for
12 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Will was great, it is magnificent to watch this guy from a role to a role. In the beginning it seemed like Leo Dicaprio, a classification stamp assigned to him, regardless of the greatness of the actor. But as years and roles came...

Edward, Michael and Kate, nice trio. Here, they are all with their own serious problems, although seemingly invisible to the person this movie is centered around - Howard (Will). After loss of his loved daughter. Soul too hurt to live, sorrow too big to heal. Business they all have in common is falling apart with Howard faraway. Hence they decide to stop it, either to reach him or to get rid of him. One way or another, they hire trio of actors to stage those Howard is addressing, when expressing the grief: The Death, the Time and the Love.

As story goes, trio of actors and the trio of Howard's mates crosses. And Howard himself...

No real parent would ever hesitate to give his own life and Howard is the right parent.

Could be new legend if not for one mistake
21 June 2020
I have just finished the movie. Better to start with review, before the feelings are gone. The bar is here, the original, slow, atmospheric Blade Runner with magnificent Harrison and no less wonderful Rutger Hauer. The thing I liked about the original is the atmosphere. It is dark and the plot too and so are the characters, there is no painting of them into good and bad. And the detective plot is here too.

Blade Runner 2049 delivers the atmosphere and the post apocalyptic word in little refurbished form, but very good follow up to the original. Rain, darkness, colors, decay. There is interesting detective plot too and the slow pace with little dialogues, good cuts and scenes. Bravo to all those responsible for visuals and music. Nice surprise, if only for that, the movie is definitely worth watching. Unfortunately the story satisfies until Harrison enters scene. Not because of Harrison himself. At that moment, movie is glued to the original with references to it, with attempts to continue the plot and to deliver Blade Runner part 2. This was very wrong. Why the hell they needed to continue with it??? Suddenly we see underground movements, Deckard and Wallace... I'd not care of any of them. This is so forced, so unnecessary. One would say - and what for to make it if not to continue the orifinal?

Well, this movie had the reason to exist without the necessity to continue the original story. And it saves this movie and it is the only thing that deserves to be center of it. The relationship between 'K' and Joi, his digital girlfriend (Ryan is excellent in this movie) This is very fresh and original idea that offers view on co-existence of artificial and digital life and human beings. Views and choices we will face in the future as our culture changes.

Overall, minus 2/10 for the unnecessary continuation of original story. I believe that without it, this movie would become the same legend as the original, while being fresh and different. It had it all, but maybe the authors haven't noticed.

Aliens vs. Predator (1999 Video Game)
10/10
You can really be them
3 November 2018
Three personalities, three different views, three different ways to kill and to try staying alive. This game delivers excellently what it is about. I won't talk about graphics since I write this in 2018, but generally to sum it up:

There is very little scripted storyline around. You obtain the aim and you are left alone, on your own. This makes you feel lonely and adds strong atmosphere, in very different way for each species.

Predator is true hunter here and loneliness is a must, because each hunter has to prove it can do everything by himself. You start passing through marine base, first with distant kills and as your skills evolve, you will be proudly killing your prey as close as possible. Then you get to alien part and this is true test of survival. I remeber myself first running for my life scared and killed so many times in level 3 while ultimately finding myself waiting for tons of aliens to be killed with my wristblades. There are so many excellent waepons that has each different range and different power and will give you pleasure from killing in many different ways. Hunter is what you are and you wil find a lot of pleasure in this game. Although, you will definitely aim to become excellent wristblade user, because facing your enemy is the ultimate destiny of the predator. The only creature in the game I haven't killed with wristblades is the queen. Now I think... I haven't tried.

Marine is trying to stay alive and this makes him just the most scared out of three when being on his own. Alien as your main enemy is the nightmare but what Marine has is hell a lot of firepower. So many waepons that you can literally keep shooting and screaming and shooting and screaming. Well, watch for ammo... You will learn where to rest and stay and which places are death trap. Marine gets killed easily and the recipe here are your reflexes, knowledge of where to aim and what angles to cover, where to expect complications when to run, when to run and shoot, which place to pick as the best battle arena and the most important, watch what is behind you.

I have left the alien as the last one to describe. This is the last one I have passed and it gives you feeling of lonely animal saving its hive. The most intense is the terror you bring to those you meet. You'll fall in love with darkness, there were parts where I destroyed the lightning and killed in complete darkness, using sounds to terrorize my prey as much as I could, approaching it with final headbite. Do you remeber the scary moment from original alien movie, where nostromo captain is suprised by alien in ducts? This is what you can give your preys. You'll love to hide, you will love to bite, you will love to make terror, scare enemies with the sound of the alien presence and welcome them with darkness. Out of all alien games, this one is the best, never alien campaign was made that intense and interesting.

This is the best balanced AVP game I have ever played with all three characters feeling like "them". Classics which - I am afraid - will never be repeated, just like noone repeated what original Alien or original Predator movie was about. But this is exactly why the game is called exceptional, isn't it?

Not that bad
3 November 2011
First of all, I haven't seen any material preceeding this movie so I have little to compare this to and I do start with clear piece of paper.

This movie isn't that bad as illustrated by points it scored at the moment I write the review (4.5). It is a fairy-tale and I must say my kid does love it. Some shotcommings - It is sometimes too fast. Even not knowing the original story, I feel like there are skipped events, something important not shown in scenes. Characters like momo are too much in background, they would deserve more, especially because they are more interesting then common "people" - at least for children and I believe their development would work well. That's the main issue of the movie - it is too much concentrated on people and it tries to be too serious. I'd prefere this to be made and understood as a movie for kids.

Predator: Concrete Jungle (2005 Video Game)

Impressive predator feel
1 July 2010
I will not review graphics or sound since you can find more accurate opinions elsewhere. But lets go to the feeling:

1.Story is fine, very original and once you pass the game, you'll really like it.It is not common for AvP games to have such story - so much different from movies and all the franchise. This brings you somewhere else. 2.Predator character-is just great.Cosutmes are perfect and are partly taken from movies predator,AvP1,predator 2.It gives you great feeling and sometimes I just catch-ed myself observing predator's great look for 10 minutes standing unmasked behind unwarned prey and then performing execution. 3.Yes, executions-wonderful and one of the best thing in the game.Together with... 4.Weapons.Weapons from the game really enrich AVP world.E.g. maul is a thing for master predators and even I know there is acid from aliens killing you slowly when you switch from combistick to maul or glave, I prefer blade weapons, because that is the feeling of hunter. Not mentioning other great stuff. 5.Game is greatly re-playable-you can repeatedly try to hunt 200 aliens or humans in certain levels.Usually, there is no limit to number of enemies you have killed. There is you record of how many you have killed ad what way.It is great to see these statistics.

Overall very good game.Any predator fan will love it.Even we have new generation of games, I recommend to buy it anyhow. Even now. It is not relict. Since Rebellion's 1999 AvP game, there was not as good game catching atmosphere of being predator the way this one does.I even do play it again on xbox360 simply because this game is so enjoyable. And it takes really long long time to finish it. Which is a plus - in this case.

Uchuusen Sagittarius (1986–1987)
easy, strange, sad, funny, calming, moving, making you smile, making you cry...
30 June 2005
I'd say that movie is too short to change you and series are too long to include enough interesting moments to do it. But this one is an exception. Excellent work of master, fantasy 10 times stronger than Miyazaki's strongest movies. There is no weak minute and whether you're child or adult you'll be surprised how strange, weird, fantastic stories can be created by human. When I should choose two things to be send to deep space in some space ship, I would choose Red Dwarf and this one. And you can bet your ass green guys somewhere far away would find our civilization cultivated (hope they won't come to see closer:-)). Episodes have strange atmosphere and even one is over, you find yourself thinking about it like it is still running. Even after several years when my memories are just shadows, I still remember emotions I had watching this anime and it is like cold drop of water on you naked back. I'll buy it once and I'll show it to my children because I don't want them to miss something like that:-).
