Sanditon: Episode #3.4 (2023)

I love Sanditon...it has bewitched me
17 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It is so nice to have some new stories and characters inspired by Jane Austen's last unfinished novel, Sanditon.

She only wrote six novels in her lifetime, and we have seen many adaptations of them over the years.

This is new and I've come to love Charlotte Heywood and her journey from Willingden to Sanditon.

Rose Williams as Charlotte Heywood is stunning, and together with Ben Lloyd-Hughes as AlexanderColbourne, in Episode 5, they have broken my heart because of their beautiful, nuanced performances....just a look says so much.

They convey their pain and regrets with their eyes and a caress.

Sanditon is a gift...

Not Jane Austen's Persuasion
15 July 2022
Persuasion by Jane Austen is one of my favorite books....this movie is so loosely based on the book that it makes me sad to think that new viewers may think that this is what Jane intended.... Anne Elliott is completely mischaracterized.... Dakota Johnson is not Anne Elliott.... Anne would never drink out of a wine bottle.... Yuck...

Heartbreak
11 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Even though the ending is heartbreaking and not what Jane would have written, I believe that this will not be the end. I think that this ending has made me love this series even more. It has touched me, enraged me, reminded me of my own heartbreaks and thus made it special. But, I need to see what happens next to all the characters .....Season 2, please...

The regatta

This is my favorite episode. Sidney must grapple with his feelings for Charlotte and Eliza and come to his truest self. The best declaration of love ever...that is all.

This a wonderful episode! Lots of flirting going on between various characters. Jealousy on view. Lady Denham's acerbic wit is on display. Delightful.

Jane Austen's first mention of a person-of-color
11 February 2021
Miss Georgiana Lambe is a mulatto woman from Antigua who is an heiress with a £100,000 fortune. This episode explores her thoughts and treatment in Regency society... She is befriended by Charlotte Heywood, the main character in the story....and that puts Charlotte at odds with Miss Lambe's guardian, Sidney Parker.

Sanditon is a new, fresh take on Jane Austen
11 February 2021
I have watched every adaptation of Jane Austen's novels several times over the years. I love her wit and complex characters. Sanditon was her last, unfinished novel before her death. I had never explored this story before. Andrew Davies, who brought us Pride and Prejudice starring Colin Firth, had adapted Sanditon and it is a delight. I have new "friends" to get to know. The story takes to a new seaside resort in the time of change in Britain....entrepreneurs and industrialists are changing England.

Sanditon has wit, wonderful characters, intrigue, a cranky dowager, fancy balls, a cricket match, a regatta, and romance. The journey to Sanditon is extraordinary..

A waste of talent
19 December 2020
I had high hopes for this movie...3 accomplished actresses on a beautiful ship sailing the sea....but, it was more of a disaster. I was hoping for a compelling backstory about these three friends and why they had grown apart, but I still don't know who they are and why they are even traveling together. Shallow and pretentious. A waste of 2 hours.

Watch it more than once....
13 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I watched it twice...the first time I missed so much of the symbolism and I had many questions.....until the end. The second time I was able to focus on what it all meant and the feelings and interactions of the characters. I don't usually watch sci-fi movies, but this is so much more...it is thought provoking.....grief, loss, humanity. Theo James is wonderful as George and Stacy Martin shines as J3.... Congratulations to all involved.

Wonderful and heartbreaking **spoiler alert
2 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Being a lifelong Jane Austen fan, I was happy to see her last, unfinished novel come to the screen. I fell in love with the characters and the story of Sanditon.it is captivating and funny and charming. My only disappointment is the heartbreak of the ending. We want to see Charlotte and Sidney happy together.
