Worst episode
6 November 2022
This whole episode was from a point of view that we did not need. We are with Vanessa the entire time and she basically repeats things that we as an audience already know and making accusations that we already know aren't true, but the problem is this goes on for 45 minutes. I don't know, maybe this is a time when the book doesn't translate well to television? The last 15 minutes we get some new information, but oh my god this was such a pointless episode. I truly couldn't believe the writers gave us basically a filler episode in a season that only has 8 episodes. You could honestly skip this one or just watch the last 15 minutes.

RECAP: "Hey mURDer CLub I KNow yoUR GuilTY" "We don't know what you're talking about" "As iF YOu psyCHOS,!! MY ARMY WilL Get YOu" "Vanessa c'mon" "UgHH I'm TOo pREtty fOR THis!"

Tell Me Lies (2022– )

How about a reivew from someone who watched it?
19 September 2022
Right, well it seems odd to me to negatively review a show because a) you're complaining about not being in the demographic it's geared toward, b) because this show isn't rewriting the wheel when it comes to television or c) because the actors are people in their early to mid 20's portraying college students. So first I would say, if you don't want to watch a show about college students dramas--then skip this one. This is what this show is about. There's a lot of sex and nudity, so thank God the actors aren't barely 18. Also, this is common practice and most of the actors are the same age as the Euphoria cast and some are younger. And yeah the main guy isn't super attractive to some, but he's actually not meant to be (watch the show and this is pointed out in the first or second ep). He looks sinister like he's supposed to. But he does have a great body just fyi.

Essentially this show is about how a young woman gets into a toxic relationship. Her personality, looks, home life, and sudden tragedy are all the perfect storm for this guy to swoop in and get her. It's a tense, dark show--it's not romantic. But it's entertaining.

There are side characters who have their own interesting dramas. Everyone is a good actor, the editing is great, and the story has kept me interested.

I like shows like this-- I am the target audience and I don't believe in hating on something just because I don't get it. This show is done well and I don't think the reviews here are accurately portraying that. If you want to compare it to other shows, go ahead, but I'm not sure what the point of that is. Someone compared it to 'You' and it isn't 'You', so they hate it? It's a different show! It's not gonna win awards, but that's fine! It's entertaining and feels disturbingly realistic at times. I've watched 4 eps and I binged them, so I could see how it could feel slow if you waited every week for a new one, but now that I'm 4-5 eps in, it has a lot going on and 1 a week will be enough. If not for you, wait til they're all out and then binge it. Or don't!

Bottom line: it's a toxic college drama with some elements I haven't seen before, and some I have. Also it's based on a book so there's direction. So yeah, definitely not a 2/3 star worthy show as some folks are saying. Watch it if you're into shows like this, I really think it has a lot going for it.

Cheers!

Tony was a highlight
26 May 2022
My roommate and I watched this show. There was a guy named Tony on the show and he told a story about hanging out in his grandparent's basement and while down there he feels something crunchy under his feet. With every step he was feeling more and more crunching and munching. Like popcorn kernals. And you know what he said they were? Ladybugs. He was stepping on hundreds of ladybugs. He tells this random story out of nowhere in a confessional interview. I about died laughing. The rest of the show was a fake and formulaic relaity show about misguided Christianity...I mean the tagline? No sex, no alcohol, 4 years- it was pretty weird/boring but I watched the whole thing and even payed for it so jokes on me.

It is what it is

Look, it's a show about a woman who craved fame- that's the show. Some of these reviews are unreliable as they clearly haven't watched it. It mentions the Kardashians once in the very first few lines. Simply drawing a parallel of women who wanted to be famous. But this show is about the journey of a woman who wanted to live in a fantasy land; to cover flaws with glitter. It's campy, wild, and partially true (mockumentary stlye). You either like it or you don't, but I can't imagine giving a 1 star rating just because you think it's 'stupid'. The acting is great, the editing, costumes, sets--are all great--definitley not 1 star worthy. This is camp. It's meant to be like this, Angelyne was an icon in her own right. She wasn't trying to save the world or anything, but she wanted the glitz and the glam. Angelyne was a character and this show captured that. Emmie Rossum, Martin Freeman, and the whole cast really deliver. Give it a try if you're into a story like this.

Wicked hair, wicked woman
2 October 2021
The documentary jumps a little all over the place at times, but as a whole it's done really well. This cult seems like hell and those that run it are experts at exploitation and cruelty; as are most cult leaders. It's sad that media outlets like talk shows, including Larry King, gave this woman any sort of attention. At first I thought she just had some strange obsession with her church community being skinny, but there is so much more to it. She's hurt children and adults alike; nothing about this lifestyle is loving or caring. This documentary is captivating and I'd recommend it.

Unexpected fun!

Honestly just get in on it for some great one liners, although their accents are so heavy it can be hard to understand them. But they are so endeering! This is a fun movie--trippy, silly, bizarre--give it a go!

A Distant Memory...
15 August 2020
When I was 7-8 years a DVD of My Scene: Masquerade Madness in the mail and so did all the girls on the block. I must have watched it at least a dozen times. 15 years later, I watched it again and remember so much of it. It's such a trip. The movie itself is sweet. It's girl power, cliche, over the top high school lives, misunderstandings, long hair, and everyone's a model and the animation is straight to DVD material. But it's nostaligic, so I wanted to write a review!

Wholesome, meaningful, and delightful!

So this is not a laugh track show. There are definitely some cute one liners, but this is a show that shows real problems that aren't given straight solutions at the end of each episode. But that's one of the best things--it's realistic! Each character is multidimensional and they're diverse in race, sexuality, and gender. Adoption, young love, moving away, learning disabilities, and the change that comes with simply growing up are all subjects dove into by a great and talented cast. The largest theme of this show is friendship and the audience is given a caring group of friends that are enjoyable to watch. Another really cool thing about this show is that the adult characters are also given storylines. They aren't just there to make breakfast or to say something funny in the middle of a crisis, but they talk about tough situations and real life problems. In my opinion, they aren't preachy or overly dramatic, but remember these are preteens/teens! Life is dramatic!! Sometimes I think they speak with such understanding that it seems unrealistic, but y'know it's a great example and also a television show. Overall, this is a needed show on Disney Channel and I'm happy it's here Give a watch!...even if you're 21 you might find yourself drawn in and get a kick of out of it--I know I did!

"Back then, I didn't want to be the hero, I still wanted to be the hero's girlfriend." Watch it. Hell yes it's over the top, but it's amazing.

Ah, the mother/daughter relationship
8 July 2018
Well, we can't all be Rory and Lorelai. Nor should we? I love this movie. I watched it with my mom (which I recommend you do too if possible) and we had a couple knowing moments where it was like we were watching ourselves. The teachers at Lady Bird's school were almost replicas of one's I had. This is what was so amazing about this film: relatable! I laughed, I cried, and I cringed. It's a fantastic movie that I recommend to everyone.

Two Hurt Souls Find Eachother
8 July 2018
First off all, I can't believe this low rating. Moss and Holbrook play their roles perfectly as two people who've been through the worse of it. I can't be sure, but it seems like the director allowed the actors the freedom to play off each other which created plenty of natural, raw moments. The camera work was wonderful; particularly, there's a scene with Holbrook on a bus and we just watch him and his expressions and it's a very telling moment that's captured seamlessly. We do feel for the characters even though their relationship can feel rushed at times. Overall, this is one of my favorite movies. I highly recommend it; the performances are ones to remember.
