Film plays important part in my life. It is my magical, make-believe-world-refuge, where I'm able to loose myself for a while and then comeback to reality revitalized and inspired.
Technology fascinates me. It gives me great pleasure to explore my notebook's capabilities and that of any other modern device I can lay my hands on.

Bloodsport: The Dark Kumite (1999)
In Loving Memory Of Ivan Ivanov!
I wanted to like this...I watched it for one reason only -my favorite Bulgarian actor is in it -the late Ivan Ivanov. In the past he had made truly great films. He was very handsome and exceptionally talented man.
Unfortunately, in 1989 the political situation in my home country changed dramatically for the worst. Everything built and achieved by then was destroyed including our film industry, which was sold to foreigners for peanuts. Ivan Ivanov and many other of our amazing actors and actresses were kicked out and consequently rehired for small, insignificant parts in insignificant productions.
I see no point of sharing my opinion on Bloodsport 4. I agree with the rest of the reviewers about the confused plot, the botched up choreography and the lack of production values. But for me personally, it was extremely painful to watch our exceptional leading actor reduced to a pathetic villain with 10 minutes pathetic screentime in a pathetic parody of a movie. Shortly after this disaster, he withdrew from the industry and never returned. I thank him for this. He didn't deserve such humiliation.
Our one and only Ivan Ivanov died on 31 January this year.
Light and love to his tormented soul on the way to Heaven!
Chernobyl (2021)
Why So Much Hate? It's A Lovely Russian Film
I love it. It is different from the HBO series and that is a good thing. To those who compare it with the series - this is insane! It's the same as comparing apples to oranges!
Chernobyl 86 is a Russian drama film. Sadly, the subtitles are terrible. They are changing a lot of the dialog in a negative way. While the creators of the HBO series were looking for shocking effects, Chernobyl 86 is made without any trickery. It focuses on Pripyat's common people whose lives have been destroyed completely. The story is fictional, based on real events as we know it. It manages to re-create successfully the tragic atmosphere during the first few days after the disaster. It is an emotional film and it has its deeply moving moments.
I love the leading actors' performances and the camera work. Danila Kozlovskiy is a talented director and actor, and with the equally talented Oksana Akinshina they make a very believable on-screen couple. It's a shame that this little drama film received such a low rating and so much hate. It's not justified!
Rambo: Last Blood (2019)
I wish I haven't Seen it!
Rambo 5 shouldn't have been made as a graphic, revenge film! This is a huge mistake. In the previous films John Rambo, a highly skilled and brave soldier, never lost his humane side. In Rambo 5 he is savage- mutilating, decapitating, injuring with intend to cause maximum damage and pain. This is so far away from the fine human being with tortured soul, which Stallone created in the classic First Blood of 1982!
I loved John Rambo for his resilience, for his ability to push back when the world was tearing him apart! The "new", badly aged Rambo has lost that ability.
Rambo was an icon and a cause! Previously he spoke on behalf of the forsaken Vietnam war veterans and he spoke well. In Rambo 5 he is degraded and reduced to a weak, riddled with mental health issues, blood-thirsty monster. This is not my John J. Rambo. My one was fearless, heroic and dignified Man. He was a Defender!
In my heart Rambo died in 2008, in Burma. A bullet ended his life while he was defending the humanitarian missionaries from Colorado and the Karen triebespeople, gunning down the vicious Tint's army with M2 Browning machine gun.
Rest in Peace Honorable John J. Rambo!
P.S. 1 October, 2019.
I just read a review by Somebodywhatever. He calls Rambo: Last blood - "beautifully brutal".
Well, there is no beauty in brutality. There is nothing worthy of adoration in decapitating people and pinning them with straws then cutting their hearts out. That is pure savagery. Sorry, but if this is the new norm for "beautiful" in US film-making, which seems to be the case, I say - stop the bus, I am off! And if this is what nowadays' American audience needs in order to feel excited - I distance myself as far as possible. I take your negative ratings of my review as COMPLIMENT!
A few words to Stallone. You are a smart and talented film-maker, Mr. Stallone. What made you do this disgraceful parody of Rambo action film, I don't want to know. But I would like to remind you that as prolific writer and actor, you have some responsibility to society and especially to the young ones who are watching your gore-feast of a movie. What do you teach them? What will you teach your future grand kids?
I will conclude my review with a quote by Ingmar Bergman - one of the most accomplished, acclaimed and influential filmmakers of all time:
"No form of art goes beyond ordinary consciousness as film does, straight to our emotions, deep into the twilight room of the soul."
Keep that in mind, Mr. Stallone, before you decide to do another one type Rambo 5, brutality- laden, parody of a movie!
The Accountant (2016)
Superb! And If You Are "Different" You Will Love It Even More!
I am a huge fan of the action genre and enjoyed enormously the action- packed second half of the film, but The Accountant is much more than that. The story is absolutely amazing. It should touch everyone who appreciates intelligent writing and although revolving around the challenges autistic people experience to adapt to the world, it should uplift the spirits of everyone who is "different" and struggles to be accepted!
Christian Wolff is a man with high-functioning autism. One of the characteristics of HFA is the exceptionally high IQ. Individuals with HFA often have difficulties in areas of communication, expression, and social interaction. That is the case with Chris. His father, a military psychologist, afraid that his autistic son may be taken advantage of, decides to prepare him for the world by putting him through strenuous military style-martial arts training and exposing him to everything which Chris has difficulties coping with.
Tough and at times flawed fatherly love but gives results and Christian becomes independent, self-sufficient man. He decides to put in good use his extraordinary capabilities in math and begins to work as forensic accountant for some of the scariest people on earth - cartel, mafia bosses, e.t.c. The big money he earns, he donates to support Harbor Neuroscience Institute in New Hampshire, research facility dedicated to Autism. How he gets out alive from working for his criminal clientele and how he escapes CIA hunt for him, I won't give away. You will see in the film.
A subtle and poignant romantic subplot is expertly interwoven in the plot. When Chris is hired by Living Robotics corporation to audit their books, he falls for Dana Cummings, in-house accountant who has discovered suspicious financial discrepancies. Chris quickly finds that substantial amount of funds is missing due to embezzlement. From that point an impressive body count begins, which leads to the climax with triumphant showdown. There is a scene in this subplot that is profoundly moving and memorable. While Dana is sleeping, Chris writes a little card to say good bye to her. He longs for her love, but the words of his dad echo in his mind: "Sooner or later "different" scares people. You are different." Chris shuts the door slowly and the image of Dana segue in black as his dream is shuttered by reality!
Ben Affleck is tremendous as the autistic Christian. He builds his character to perfection. Anna Kendrick is lovely as Dana and child- actor Seth Lee, who plays young Chris is a nice surprise.
The soundtrack is mesmerizing. I can listen to it all day long and will not get bored for a second.
The Accountant is simply superb film and I recommend it without hesitation.
Robinson Crusoe (1997)
An Excellent Adaptation Of A Classic Book!
I've no idea why this lovely film received such ridiculously low rating. Perhaps most of the critics are disappointed because the script does not follow faithfully the book. Well, it doesn't have to. During the opening credits it is stated that the film is based on the "Adventures of Robinson Crusoe". If this is of any consolation, I can tell you that the original novel, which was published on 25 April 1719, had run thru 4 editions by the end of the year and that by the end of the 19th century it had many more editions, spin-offs and translations. To date there are more than 700 alternative versions of it! (Check Wikipedia) So, to those who wrote that Daniel Dafoe would turn in his grave if he could see the film - do not worry about that, he wouldn't!
The script writers Christopher Lofton, Tracy Keenan Wynn and Christopher Canaan have done a fine job modernizing the novel and compressing it to fit the story in a 90 min. screenplay. The romance is beautiful and adds nice, elegant touch to the plot.
It's 1703, Scotland. Robinson Crusoe is forced to duel a friend, Patrick O'Conner over his childhood sweetheart. The duel ends with Patrick's death and Robinson must flee the country. He sets off on a year long sea voyage. An ocean storm wrecks his ship and leaves him stranded on an uninhabited island. It's a matter of survival for him and his only companion, the late captain's dog Skipper, until he meets Friday, a tribesman whom he saves from being sacrificed. The two men struggle at first, but gradually manage to build strong bond despite their cultural and religious differences.
The plot is complex. I find it thought provoking and inspirational. The soundtrack is lovely, the cinematography beautiful. To me, the highlight in the film is the superb acting by both Pierce Brosnan (Robinson Crusoe) and William Takaku (Friday). Their final scene, once again a forced fight between friends, will stay me for the rest of my life. It is so emotionally charged and so deeply moving.
Robinson Crusoe (1997) is a great, little film. It is worth the attention of everyone who appreciates fine cinema and great storytelling. And perhaps it is so brutally underrated because it came nearly 2 decades ahead of its time - nowadays, when the world is on a verge of new war because of religious and cultural differences, its message is more valid than ever!
