AVPR: Aliens vs Predator - Requiem (2007)
that bad...
saw this movie 3 hours ago, and let me tell you: i nearly forgot everything about it. except i paid 13 swiss franks for it :-( didn't thought i would be that bad. thinking back, it reminds me of an TV-movie. free from tension crap, too close filming of no action.
the predators walked around not recognizing a hiding alien next to them? and so on, and so on.....while watching that movie, i thought what to shop afterwards for dinner; really. it was that interesting.
when i heard those little sound bits from the original alien-score, i could have cried tears.
this movie sucked; even more then AVP 1; locking back that one was much more interesting.
Fame (1980)
I will always love FAME
If your looking for a movie with fantastic music, nice cast and a storyline that is not to difficult to understand; FAME is for you.
I have several scenes that i love in this movie; some make you laugh, others make you contemplative. The editing i think is wonderful, really fast and often funny. Shure, maybe there would have been some more potential in the whole thing, all the story's stay somehow on the surface; maybe a bit too many characters are involved.But I don't care, because the real stars are...
...the musical scenes! One of my favorites: the hot-lunch-jam sequence. That piece is just so raw, funky and filmed in a special way (handcamera-style in "music-hell-breaking-loose"), its just electrifying! I miss this raw energy in todays music-clips; the only similar energy I found perhaps in Bette Midlers "the rose", all of the concert footage.Its about capturing something "wild" that is "realy" happening, and not doing it just perfect; take by take.
So, FAME is a wonderful nostalgia-trip to when synthesizers where heavy and walk-mans not available.I recommend it once a year; sure not for everyone.
Brokeback Mountain (2005)
Mixed emotions about Brokeback
To have a "Refugium" like Brokeback Mountain must be a nice thing; that is one of my thoughts after seeing this movie. The camera captured its magic very well. Having a place to hang out with your friend/buddy/lover or whatever to swim, drink, smoke, penetrate...and get rid of crying babies and talking wives ;-).But it was not easy to see and feel the love between those guys. And thats what the whole movie did to me; it gave me a painting, and I had to fill out a lot of emotions by myself. That isn't bad, thats what a movie should do, even the best ones; but i expected a bit more in portraying a gay couple.
It was hard to go emotionally with them; felt more sorry for their wives perhaps. That thing made it more believable on the other hand. The aging process was not build up stringent; I found myself being more attracted in seeing make-up artists work.
"SPOILER":
Strong scenes where there, and they worked out well: visiting the parents and going up to the room, finding the jacket,.... the loss of his love stroke your heart.
Summary; if the movie was about a man and a woman, I would not want to see it. So far the "gay-gimmik" worked out well to stand out of the rest. The development of "falling in love" was too often left to the viewer; not much fantasy in creating real love suspense there; even when they are playing guys who are not able to talk about feelings. But the overall tone created with music and images summed up in an enjoyable cinema- experience like there was no other before.
