Mission: Impossible - Fallout (2018)
Woah
I really suck at predicting plot twists and the plot twists here really got me. A good film had me hooked almost the whole time. The action was good and with the right blend of mystery and romance. Enjoyed the film and interesting throughout.
Zootopia (2016)
Personally thought it was ok
I felt like they kind of really over-emphasized the whole putting you down and get back up and prove yourself again. The other side characters weren't that good, maybe aside from the singing gazelle. The humor was ok and quite a bit of plot holes. A mediocre movie for me but probably because it was geared more towards children.
Spider-Man 3 (2007)
Pretty good
I liked this film when watching it when I was younger and thought it was really good. Looking back i still think that it is a pretty good film and was interesting to see Spider-man don the venom suit. My problem lies with the fact that they throw too many villains in at once and it felt kind of rushed and not enough development was given for each. It was good but could've been better.
To Kill a Mockingbird (1962)
A good story and faithful to source
I enjoyed this movie after watching it in class also after reading the book. It was faithful to source and the character were all portrayed really well. Not used to seeing it in black and white but now I know what its like to watch movies back in the day.
Risen (2016)
An interesting take
The movie I believe really tackles the heart of the issue. Some times if not most its not the lack of evidence that deters someone but the fact of the matter is that they don't want to believe. That was wonderfully portrayed by the Roman tribune and I felt deterred from the biblical account a little bit. They also took the liberty of Jesus having a conversation with the tribune which I found a little bit odd but it did fit with the story. Overall it was pretty good but I would have liked to see a better conclusion even though I already have a good idea what happens next according to the biblical text.
Facing the Giants (2006)
Tackles the issue of sports and faith
This movie was not just about if you have God and your team loves God you will win every game. It shows that in the end its not about winning but its about building character, heart, spirit, faith, and giving God the glory. Again this movie brings up the issue of pride and teaches a good lesson on humility and hard work. A really good watch.
Fireproof (2008)
A good message
This movie tackled the issue of marriage and really highlights how important it is to keep God in the center of any relationship, especially marriage. It reveals how marriage is difficult, takes time and effort, and requires humility. I enjoyed the movie and is one I believe more steered towards a Christian audience. Though I'm not in a romantic relationship yet, its a good reminder that should be the focal point of any and all relationships I have with others. especially with a possible future spouse.
Flywheel (2003)
Beautiful story for the Christian
Personally as a Christian I enjoyed this film and was really touched by its message. However, i don't recommend it as much to non-Christians because I don't think they were the movie's intended audience. Still not a bad watch and was moved by the story. I would have liked the story to explore more of success not occurring after one gives their life to Christ. There is always positive change but not everything gets better and all your problems go away. Sometimes its still there and I think that was the only downside and can send the wrong message.
Star Trek Beyond (2016)
Decent but could be better
There wasn't much exploration into the human psyche and just a lot of action and drama. The plot twist was predictable than most and had plot holes here and there. Expected more from this one but was still relatively decent as someone not too familiar with the Star Trek franchise.
Star Trek Into Darkness (2013)
New to Star Trek
Was my first Star Trek movie I think but I still enjoyed it. Didn't know what to expect but it was good and I appreciated the story. The plot and the characters were fresh to me and was quite the exhilarating ride for me.
I had a kind of negative view of Star Trek before as it being old and out dated but after watching this one I don't think so anymore. Would look forward to future Star Trek movies and hopefully even better ones.
Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015)
A good star wars movie
Didn't know what to expect going into the theaters but came out really excited and interested. The plot was driven pretty well and the set ups look set set for a really good conclusion. Was into the movie and enjoyed the action and the overall story.
God's Not Dead 2 (2016)
Better than the first
The premise and the whole set up may not have been realistic but I do think it is a sign of things to come. The hate for Christians and what they believe in is only growing. Yes, Christians still make mistakes and there some who even claim to be "Christians" but I do think there is enough evidence to warrant belief in a God. The main issue I think is the plot of the movie and the way the story is told. I think this movie should be judged based on its story-telling and not on its religious views which we all have a right too.
Legally Blonde (2001)
Interesting
I feel like the movie had a good message and really tackles society's stereotypes towards blondes. The story is interesting and the plot carries on pretty well even though there were quite a bit of cringe moments throughout. A pretty good film for its time and maybe even now.
God's Not Dead (2014)
Could be better
I feel like the movie could've done better but even as a Christian, now that I think about it the story isn't as well developed. If the goal was to try to convince others to believe that God exists intellectually , through evidence, I don't think it did a very good job of that. There were much more venues they could've explored and really tackled the issue and idea of atheism more realistically and deal with it there. Sometimes you have to go from the head to heart and it felt like it went to heart too quick without addressing the evidence and reasons to believe in God better.
Arrival (2016)
Love films like this
I really enjoy movies that get you thinking and try to wrap your head around what's going on yet still being interesting at the same time. Had to have the movie explained more clearly afterwards but that's what made it good. If I don't have all the answers at the end it defintely got my interest. I enjoyed the story and the way it was written, a really good movie.
Green Lantern (2011)
Enjoyable for fans
Green Lantern has always been one of my favorite heroes from DC. It was great to him finally in action and I thought Ryan as the lead was more than decent. Fun and interesting though there were a few plot holes here and there. Could've used more plot development on the other characters but I'm sad that they didn't make a sequel since I was really looking forward to him facing the new villain at the end. Worth the watch.
Fantastic Four (2015)
Not Worth it
Went to watch this expecting it to be pretty good even though my expectations were pretty low to begin with. Even then the movie was a disappointment and definitely came out feeling like there should've been more. Didn't really relate to the characters, too much backstory on two characters and little plot at all. At the end I was like "is that all?" and "that's it?" The ending was set up really badly and the ending was rushed. Hard to find much good in this one, maybe the fact that their was at least some action.
The Avengers (2012)
Nice Experience
This was probably one of my first super hero movies and it brought me into their world. A wonderful story about a team of superheroes working together to fight evil. The humor, action, plot and characters were all enjoyable and was a worthwhile experience.
Captain Marvel (2019)
its OK but below par
The action was pretty good and the fight scenes weren't bad but as a character I find her very hard to relate to and I don't think it has to do with my gender. She's always uptight and hardly ever smiles so that when she tears up it seems pretty forced. Had to kinda force myself to find something to enjoy and acting tough all the time defintely didn't help.
I liked the cat and Nick Fury better though. Probably would've enjoyed it less if not for those 2
Coco (2017)
Touching...
A pretty good story and the music was wonderful. The relationships are touching and goes to show just how important family is. However, what bothered me was people being stubborn and I didn't like the plot twist but it still got me. Overall I would say that it was ok.
Shutter Island (2010)
Amazing Film
Once again I watched this in my psychology class and I was really taken aback. The entire movie got me hooked from the very beginning and the sense of mystery was very intriguing. After the movie I was MINDBLOWN and was still in denial as to what really happened. That was just how good the plot twist was. A great movie, just great, wow.
Memento (2000)
MINDBLOWN
Watched this movie in my psych class and it just simply blew me away. I was literally confused the entire movie and since I wasn't in class for one day I was left even more confused. This movie really challenged my intellectually and psychologically. I think what also made this movie so good was the way the story was told and that's what made it just amazing.
Inside Out (2015)
OK i guess
The animation is nice and is an interesting take on how the mind works in an upbeat and humorous way. The plot, however, is decent I guess, quite a bit of hole here and there. Din't make as much as a emotional impact on me, since it's probably more meant for a younger audience.
Johnny English Strikes Again (2018)
Not my kind of movie
When I went in I thought this was going to be serious action movie but was really about a guy messing up almost every time and somehow still succeeding. The humor portrayed just wasn't the kind I found particularly funny most of the time. I thought the acting was pretty good but it seemed pretty ridiculous to me. This doesn't make it a bad movie but to me it was below-par.
Alita: Battle Angel (2019)
Amazing visuals and wonderful lead
I had never heard of Alita before watching it for the first time. Rosa as Alita was simply out of this world. She connected Alita with the audience and made her seem truly human. The action sequences and the CGI was just as good if not better. I felt a strong emotional connection to Alita and was really drawn in by her story. This was the only movie I've ever gone back more than once to watch in theaters. I felt like I was a child once again and that's a good thing.
It wasn't perfect but definitely worth a watch, the apparent cliches weren't cliches when this manga first came out, ; if anything other mediums might as well have drawn elements from the original manga, not vice versa. The plot could've been more developed and there could've been more character development for the side characters. Nonetheless, as I was watching the movie, I didn't see the "big eyes" and the flaws, all I saw was Alita fighting to discover who she really was and the adventure, heartbreak, and pain that would follow .
