Punk Rock Teenage Rebellion - Inspirational For Misfits Of All Ages.
9 August 2018
If you were saved by Punk Rock as a teenager, this one is for you. It's not only an inspiration for the misfit kids of today but for the burnt out adults who gave up on their dreams to grow up. The dialog is well written, the soundtrack is excellent, and the acting is on point as well. I've seen Alex Wolff in a few movies now and believe he's going to be a huge star. From this role and a previous one, it's easy to see he's a fan of the same bands I've been inspired by over the years. Perhaps he'll start a band and we'll share the stage one day. The House of Tomorrow will go down as one of those coming of age cult classics such as Angus. -Rapid Randy

The Opposite Of A Thriller
16 March 2018
This film is for you only if you'd enjoy watching the cast hike for it's entirety. There's one scene that could be classified as Thriller but it's not as powerful as the critics would lead you to believe. Calling it a Drama is almost even reaching as it's more of a found footage movie without shaky cameras and a scary plot twist ending. Yes, a walk in the woods with three wonderful actors is what The Loneliest Planet is. Now that I've wasted my evening, it's time for bed.

Excellent Subject Matter, Less Impressive Execution
15 September 2017
The first ten minutes are extremely interesting and sets the stage for what should have been a one of a kind classic. Unfortunately, it's all down hill from there. As a huge fan of Found Footage, I don't like the addition of scenes not recorded by the camera which supposedly filmed the footage. If you're somewhat familiar with MK Ultra and the drug DMT, you'll probably be letdown and frustrated by the direction they take. There's some jump scares and very little thinking required so as an average horror movie, it succeeds.

Taxi Driver on a Lost Highway
10 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
"The Ghoul" is not a horror movie or even one that will make much sense to the majority of viewers. If you happen to enjoy mind-bending stories with no true finish line, this is your movie. David Lynch fans will rejoice. It's quite the experience and will leave you disoriented, thinking you may have taken LSD prior to watching. It's enjoyable if you know what's in store so hopefully this review has been of some help.

Not "47 Meters Down" But Entertaining Nonetheless
22 June 2017
There are thousands of votes averaging currently at 8, so I'm going to assume some may have mistaken this for "47 Meters Down", because it doesn't quite pack the same punch. That doesn't make it not worth watching though.

Inspired by true events, two sisters become trapped under the fiberglass cover of an Olympic sized public pool during a rushed closing for the holidays. The movie takes place completely in and around the pool area but it's engaging throughout.

What we have here is a pretty original idea for a Drama/Thriller but the script and logic is on the simpler side. With only a few minor changes, you'd have a great movie here for what it is.

Note: Jigsaw from the Saw series plays a small but entertaining role.

The Devil's In The Details.
15 June 2017
This highly thought provoking feature displays characters who could have been any of us at any point of our lives depending on our upbringing. It's not only our parents and what we're exposed to at a young age that shapes our perception of the world. It's also their parents and so forth. It also shows that the best of us can be capable of horrific actions. Life can be so complex that there is no bad or good guys and revenge isn't black and white.

Unfortunately Stale.
17 April 2017
For who this film would legitimately satisfy as a whole is a bigger question than the ones most people will have after viewing. The previous sentence is almost as confusing as how this is getting rave reviews. Perhaps it's those who overlooked the many flaws because they enjoy the director or actors. Kristen Stewart definitely has found her way into some great parts that will surprise those who only are only familiar with the Twilight series. Kudos to her for that and I look forward to many more great performances. It's the story that didn't pay off for me, especially after an interesting trailer. Some will call it pretentious and boring. As someone who usually loves movies that get called those things, I find it hard to argue unfortunately.

Agnes (I) (2016)

When puppy love ends and happiness isn't good enough to keep one satisfied.
15 December 2016
Agnes is a drama romance with a few twists and turns which can remind one of Ruby Sparks or Vanilla Sky, as reality conflicts with a novel being written about a couple's relationship. The story surrounds a male writer who meets an irresistible and free spirited woman named Agnes. Although he has little experience in writing novels, he uses new found inspiration to create a story based on their relationship. Once he's arrived at present day, the lines between reality and fiction become blurred. What he wants and what really happens between the two can be confusing at times for both he and the viewer. It could have done a better job of creating more tension and dread for the climax which felt rushed, but I honestly can't think of anything else that took me out of the moment. Overall it feels fresh and genuine and is deserving of a watch if you enjoy drama heavy Romances with a somewhat reality bending story line.

Creepy Found Footage / Basic But Effective
19 October 2016
All you need to know before watching Rorschach is it's about a mother who's hired a pair of paranormal investigators to either debunk or confirm her house being haunted. She and her young daughter have been experiencing strange events since the grandmother passed away.

This is a found footage film and a low budget one at that but the creativity and simplicity makes for a perfect mix of creepy, believable, effective horror.

Every detail is well thought out and executed that it's easy to get caught up in this D.I.Y haunted house story.

Hopefully other independent filmmakers will be inspired to break new ground with this genre instead of using the copy and paste formula which gives it a bad name.

You give Found Footage A Bad Name.
5 October 2016
A group of friends take a trip to the country in search of the illusive Chupacabra. It begins with the road trip and the characters they meet along the way and then to the woods where it remains until the end.

Chupacabra Territory is the type of found footage that gives the genre a bad name. It's badly written with multiple cringe worthy scenes. The acting is the equivalent of a high school play with a script that could have been written by a fifteen year old boy. The acting is horrible but they really didn't have much to work with. Although the cast seem to be in their late 20's, they speak to each other like teenagers obsessed with boobs and booze. There are masturbation and sex scenes which do absolutely nothing for the story. The conversations and interactions between the friends are awkward, nonsensical, and unrealistic. I'm certain the locals they come in contact with are meant to be comical but got a face palm instead of chuckles out of me.

I'll never understand how a film can fail on so many levels with a decent story line, good cameras, and a presumed group of creative people. You'd think that someone would attempt to save the project before going through with such a disaster that will be there for the public to see forever.

I love Found Footage and this is an abomination of the genre. Avoid at all costs and check out the ever growing list of creative films which use this platform redefine what a movie can be.

And why in the world they didn't use any Groovie Ghoulies or Chixdiggit songs about Chupacabras is beyond me. I'd given an extra point for the research and good taste but this movie lacks both.

Blair Witch (2016)

An Updated Version of the Found Footage Trendsetter.
22 September 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Giving the benefit of the doubt to the writer and director, they've done better, but I have no knowledge of how far from the original they were allowed to stray.

I agree with other reviews which say it's almost identical to the first film, except with updated camera equipment and new characters.

The trailers were so popular and well done at hyping the third installment that fans were possibly expecting more than it was able to deliver. The early clips gave me the impression of a haunted forest with trees attacking the characters, as if the Blair Witch was using nature as it's weapon. I left unconvinced of this being the case since there were only hints of this actually happening.

If you look at it as an update of the original, it's really not that bad. The final scenes reminded me of the V/H/S series by creating a much more disorienting and supernatural vibe.

As a huge fan of the found footage genre and having watched countless titles, I can easily say this is nowhere near the bottom of the barrel. I can't say it's anywhere near the Top 20 but I did enjoy it for the most part.

If you're a found footage junkie or a fan of the original Blair Witch Project, there's a good chance you'll at the very least enjoy the film with only minor turn offs.

The Triangle (2016)
10/10
Top Shelf Found Footage / Faux Documentary
7 July 2016
Triangle will be a much welcomed Faux Documentary addition for fans of the Found Footage genre. For every entertaining film such as this, there's at least 10 unwatchable titles which give FF it's bad name with mainstream viewers. Not everyone will be happy with the direction Triangle takes but all should appreciate the quality of the acting, camera work, sound, and overall authentic feel throughout. The realism that's established early on easily makes it past the half way mark before the twist is revealed. Revealing any other details would give too much of the story away so go in knowing as little as possible for the best viewing experience.

Satanic (2016)
5/10
Those nights when finding a movie takes just as long as watching one.
6 July 2016
Two young couples heading for a music festival find themselves in a nightmare scenario in Los Angeles after taking a day to check out some of the true crime hot spots in town. While one couple is straight laced and reserved, the other is attracted to Gothic culture and thrill seeking. Peer pressure and bad decisions lead to a nightmare scenario for all four teens. Satanic fits somewhere in between cookie cutter teen horror of the last 20 plus years and a cable television movie of the week. It isn't horrible but probably not worth watching again. If you've ran out of options and don't mind lowering your standards, this one shouldn't have you rolling your eyes too much.

Jaw dropping at times w/ a spellbinding cast and originality.
8 June 2016
This is a quintessential Horror film if you don't expect a massive amount of gore or torture. For those who enjoy the creepy, unsettling, dark, puzzling, keep you guessing until the end type of Horror, then consider adding this to the must see list. All you need to know is: religious school, holiday/semester break, two female students, parents don't show up to get them, stuck in the school with the few remaining staff, weird things happen, confusing and disorienting to the end when patience is rewarded with a finale that gives just enough without spelling it all out, so that you leave satisfied with only a few questions remaining to ponder on the way home. 10/10 for an unexpected instant classic that I'll definitely watch again, which is something I rarely do.

The title "Manhattan Nights" is the only generic part of this Mystery / Thriller.
21 May 2016
Warning: Spoilers
The brilliant trailer for this film misleads the viewer into believing it's given the entire story away when it actually couldn't be further from the truth. The plot reads closer to what Manhattan Nights is about and leaves plenty mystery to be discovered. Best movie of the year it is not but definitely worth the price of admission during this dull period of the year. Adrian Brody is excellent in his character as always and the supporting cast shine as well. I personally feel the lack of sympathy given to the "villain" in the end was a bit harsh but mainstream movies are careful not to turn away the more casual viewer with a more complex finish. The transition from book to the big screen was played well with our main character thinking out loud as he attempts to solve the puzzle that's plagued his life due to a lack of self-control.

Found Footage Original
25 March 2016
Warning: Spoilers
After a wave of horrific "Found Footage" movies over the last year, here comes another one worthy of adding to the favorites list. It's not perfect by any means and goes over the top near the end but still very watchable and left me wearing a smile. What's made all of the "classic" movies of this genre work is taking the formula and adding your own personal touch to it. It's much like writing music in that respect. It's all been done before but just putting a few different things here and there is what keeps us coming back for more. Making a found footage movie just to make one, using the same tired story of a paranormal incident in the woods, only changing the cast members and title, is what gives this genre a bad name. "They're Watching" won't break the top ten but it's definitely worth your time if this is your sort of thing.

Slight above average film about the trials of America's homeless
24 February 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I'm very surprised to see none of the reviews containing the beginning of the credits at the end. "To the couple who lived outside my building" pretty much sums up the entire problem of the homeless problem. It's a great story for a movie but how many people actually go out of their way to help those in need? As noted in other reviews, the characters weren't likable enough to pull you in and failed to start the rain works at it's most sad moments. It's worth watching if you're a huge fan of the actors who tried their best to make a good film out of a not so great written story. Overall it was refreshing to see attention given to a subject that's forgotten and looked over every day. If anything good comes from this, let it be that we all take care of our fellow man and treat others as we'd like to be treated, no matter what religion, race, or sex they are.

What exactly are IMDb's requirements for adding a movie to the database?
22 January 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I'd like to first apologize to everyone involved with "Hulk Blood Tapes" because I'm sure you're proud and had good intentions for this found footage attempt. The finger has to be pointed at IMDb for allowing anything to be considered a movie and added to the site. I'm an avid found footage fan, having seen hundreds, but this is easily the worst I've ever seen. On paper it actually sounds original and intriguing. A group of friends take a road trip to follow their favorite metal band but things take a change for the worse. If more effort had been put into everything, it could have been really good. Here comes the spoilers so please stop reading if you don't want to know what happens. In short, everyone in the car keeps offering the driver some weed or a beer, which he declines but eventually takes. The worst portrayal of a car accident in the history of cinema occurs leaving one dead and another severely wounded by a broken rib. Although she walks for quite a while into the woods with the survivors, she mentions that she thinks she broke a rib. Instead of turning around and someone running to the previous city for help, they continue to move further into the woods getting more and more lost. I've had three separate broken ribs and unless it punctures your lung, you'll not only live, but there's no operation needed. The gang decides that they need to put her out of her misery and one of them strangles her. If this meets the criteria of what a movie must have to be listed on IMDb, I have several student projects along with a actual released live DVD of a performance from my band to add. The problem with that is I don't wish to embarrass myself or stain the reputation of what I'd previously considered the go to site for movies. Good luck to those who made the film. Prove me wrong next time.
