Agatha Raisin (2014)
Ashley Jensen Deserved this Show
I love Ashley Jensen as an actress and although I was not familiar with the character of Agatha Raisin before I do not see anyone else playing this character so well.
Really this show is all about Agatha and no other character shines as much as she does. And rightly so!
I do not think every episode is amazingly written. You coming here for entertainment and light hearted murder mystery vibes. And that you get buckets full of. 10 stars for me is not always about Oscar worthy performances. It's about getting the enjoyment of watching the TV and wanting more.
Thank you Acorn TV for continuing to give us more Agatha Raisin.
Miss Fisher and the Crypt of Tears (2020)
Not as good as the show but worth a watch.
I wanted to love this as much as the show. From a visual perspective I do feel they spent all money in the right places. It did feel like it was a proper adventure and I think Miss Fisher needed that visual piece.
Story wise I did feel it was a little lacking. Though Jack and Phryne were there it was missing the heart of the other characters we have come to love. They all played off each other's chemistry and their "blink and you'll miss it" appearance did deserve more.
I would agree with many others - perhaps it should have been kept in Australia - maybe the adventure should have started there and it would have solved a lot of the issues I have with the film.
I was happy with the final scenes though. Go have a watch - I think most viewers of the show will enjoy ;)
I hope it comes back for another season rather than a movie. I think it works better on TV as much as I loved the visual spender of the film.
Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries (2012)
We Need More
As a person I really grew to love Miss Fisher. So ahead of her time, full of adventure and spunk. Even though fictional she really gives you an idea of freedom (yes the money does help) but she is her own person.
90% of the episodes are so well crafted and acted. The sets are pure indulgence. Really how they did all of that on a budget of AUS$1 mil per episode I don't know.
But for 3 seasons we were treated to some great TV. I know we have the movie but I would much rather have a few more seasons here.
I was unfamiliar with Essie Davis as an actress before this, but because of my love for murder mysteries I have had the chance to explore her other works. She is a great actress!!
I will keep this in my collection and watch for years to come.
If anyone is reading and they part of the production team ... what do we have to do to get more? ;)
The Night Manager (2016)
Excellent Viewing
I hate giving 10 stars because I know people will just say nothing is that good. But I really enjoyed The Night Manager. I have not read the book so I cannot compare notes here but I thought it was a thrill. Every episode I was on the edge of my seat.
Hugh Laurie was the perfect villain. His acting was spot on as I really hated his character so much.
Just an amazing cast, visually stunning and showed the complexities of the evils in this world really well.
If there is no continuation here I will be ok (I know there is talk of more) but I feel all ended nicely wrapped up. I didn't feel I needed to know more. Ok ... well a little but I can be selfish that way ;)
Riviera: Réduire au silence/Silence (2020)
A really good ending to season 3.
If there is no season 4 I do feel this wrapped up the series as well as it could. Not too many loose ends. Overall I feel season 3 was better put together than 1&2 so long as you could get over some of the unresolved issues with her family.
Season 3 was a holiday 8/10 for me as I enjoyed the adventure, new characters and the story.
All Creatures Great & Small (2020)
Really Great!
Honestly, I know people might see 10/10 and think ah he just liked the series, or big big fan. But I went into this show with 0 expectations.
I had watched a few episodes of the original and really enjoyed it. But this version is right up my alley. Such great writing, great scenery and some really heart at the centre of it all.
I hope others will give this a chance if they are fans of the older version. I feel both can stand side-by-side.
I think the BBC was mad to pass this up! Good on Channel 5 for taking it on and I look forward to future series.
