Mute (2018)
I love sci-fi movies but...
After trying to watch this because of Alexander Skarsgård found that I hated myself for making it past the first 30 minutes... I should have cut it off then...it looks stylistically good but I just didn't care about any of it. Pure rubbish for a story, but there was at least a good initial concept. Mr Skarsgård looks dashing as a mute but that's about it. The rest is just boring nonsense and Paul Rudd's character was atrocious. I tuned out around an hour and fifteen minutes... I recommend you skip this one even if you think it looks promising.
13 Reasons Why (2017)
Season 1 7/10 Season 2 4/10
I give it...
1 star for its actors. Most of, if not, all of the actors played their parts beautifully. Did they make choices that sometimes didn't make sense? Well yeah. But don't blame the actors, blame the writers. They not only brought the story to life, they exuded teenage angst on screen in the best way possible.
The 2nd star is for the issues this show raises. Teenagers are desperate. Teenagers are evil. Plain and simple. It's nice to see American Crime play out in a darker fashion, but overall in 13 Reasons Why Season 2, the show loses its shock value when they started with all that unnecessary tainted material. Season 2 starts off with a bang then you're left with a weird empty feeling that makes you sort of pissed off and on the fence about Season 3.
2 Stars for one of the most unforgettable scenes in recent TV history and 2 more stars for the design and cinematography. It was beautifully shot and I truly enjoyed watching it.
Prometheus (2012)
Pretty good movie. Ignore the bad ratings.
OK. So I read a couple of these reviews and for the most part couldn't understand what made a lot of people dislike this film. I mean it was an overwhelming population of hate geared towards this film and it just made me want to see the movie just to see if it was that bad. And... Honestly... It wasn't. Now, I wasn't on "the edge of my seat", but it was engaging and I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. It is an interesting question raised as to where did humanity come from. And I was just enthralled with David, Micheal Fassbenders' character. I loved how he went all A. I. out of his mind and it was way too convincing. I almost forgot he was a "real boy!"
By the end of the 2 hour long movie, I was ready to watch, Alien: Covenant and watch it I did. I'll leave a review on it later. As far as the dumb decisions they made, they all sort of made sense to me. Yes. These are accredited scientists but curiosity always kills the cat. I tried putting myself in their shoes and it solved some of the questions I had as to why he/she would do this or that. It was a bit predictable in my opinion but still very enjoyable.
🚨 *****SEMI SPOILER ALERT***** 🚨
The only thing I had a problem with was a certain character having a certain type of major surgery in a med pod and doing things she honestly wouldn't have been able to do otherwise. I mean yeah the character had shot herself up with painkillers, which made it even more unbelievable but whatever. I still gave it 7 because I can't give a 6.5.
🚨 END OF SEMI SPOILER ALERT 🚨
It was a beautifully shot movie and I would recommend it if you too have questions about the origin of humanity. The people that disliked this film actually did it a favor, because it made me that much more inquisitive to watch. I'm thinking "Surely it couldn't have been that bad?" I came, I saw, and I enjoyed every bit of it. It wasn't scary per se but I was a bit jumpy going to the bathroom. Like I was literally looking around corners and checking all of my windows and doors for some reason. You never know what could be out there. I. Loved it. You won't be disappointed.
Dog Eat Dog (2016)
Racist William Dafoe and Hooker Loving Nicholas Cage!!!
Spoiler Alert
This movie was just awful and full of dumb decisions and plot holes. The whole time I really wanted to take it out and couldn't believe Paul Shrader directed this crap! But I gave it a chance and watched until my eyes bled. The first scene was just dumb. Like just seriously dumb and unnecessary. Then to top it off they made Cleveland look actually worse than what it really was, the concept was stupid, and if you're trying to stay out of jail, why rig a car to look like a cop car towards the beginning of the movie?
I just didn't understand the reasoning behind all the racist comments towards black people. And that whole "trap house" robbery was also dumb and unnecessary. Nobody pays $1500 dollars for Cleveland hookers... in the freaking strip club at that! Oh! After they attempt to kidnap the "1 year old" baby who was actually 7 months old, I just cringed. Like seriously? Hell even I knew that the guy they shot in the mini mansion was the intended mark. Like who else would be in the freaking house. N. Cage did not have to shoot that mom, it was another unnecessary and pointless thing that occurred.
Nick Cage should just pull a Robin Williams for the sake of his flailing career. Every other movie is coke and hookers and some apocalyptic dilemma. I am just sick of him at this point. And will now avoid anything that has his name in it. This movie was not funny in any way, shape, or form and I really don't see how anyone except ex-convicts who are similar to the characters or former members of the KKK would laugh at or rate this movie highly on any list. Trash at its finest! DO NOT WATCH! Unless you want more proof that Nicholas Cage and William Dafoe are done in the world of acting.
Good Neighbours (2010)
It was an OK movie if you like suspense builders and misnomers.
****Contains A Few Spoilers****
All in all this dark comedy, which was kinda slow to start was a fairly good watch. It has tons of tension building, in the sense that it's a who-dun-it and you have to wait until the end to see whats what. Very creepy and filled with dark humor, it kept me laughing until the end credits. Although you may not find the same things funny**** (e.g. the poisoning of the cats and the sodomy of an alcoholic) it should still be enjoyable. Don't watch with kids around!
This movie was more funny and soft-core creepy than scary or psychologically thrilling to me and I kept rewinding certain parts to laugh over and over again. Although I would have liked a more thorough investigation of one of the latter deaths ****(the semen that was used inside of her which did not match the "killer") this movie still works for me and I would recommend watching it on a rainy Tuesday with nothing better to do. You never know what your neighbors are up to...
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 (2015)
To Mockingjay, With Love
First off. Let me just say this film paid close attention to detail with its book-to-movie transformation. I was literally speechless, then screaming, angry, then happy, confused, and scared. Then finally, everything was OK. See at first I was like oh no,they're gonna tidy it up for a PG-13 crowd. But then I had to remember the end of the first part of Mockingjay when Peeta choked the dog crap out of Katniss. So naturally I start creeping around The Internet looking for spoilers. After I get what I want I finally purchased the ticket and go to the theater. Just got back and I want to watch it again, which is kinda shocking as long as the movies was. Best scene for me was the scene where Katniss quietly and slowly says "Nightlock, Nightlock, Nightlock." The whole scene was amazing. Kudos to Francis Lawrence, Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, oh everybody. The whole cast delivered! Every scene was heartfelt and the movie came together beautifully. And another thing I might add is that at the end it was kinda like this is the end(amazingly freaking executed) but alas THIS IS THE END. With others movies, or shall I say book-to-movie transformations they leave you with a sense of yet another sequel. Just seems like the fight is never really over. With The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 I got just that. I loved how it was done. Jennifer Lawrence looks like she'd be a wonderful mother someday. But with other franchises such as Harry Potter(which I love), Twilight, Lord Of The Rings, and heck even stuff like Wrong Turn, Final Destination, Scream, and Paranormal Activity. This movie was like WE WON THE WAR, YOU CAN GO HOME AND JUST LIVE NOW KATNISS. ITS OVER. And it truly felt over, and I felt good about it.
Insidious: Chapter 3 (2015)
Pretty good actually!
Possible Spoiler Alert Overall I think this was a good movie. The acting was good, it was creepy, it gave that "somebody help her!" vibe... I took points only because the movie didn't scare me enough. I mean it was scary it just didn't scare "me". Also it was pretty slow getting to the point of why Elise couldn't help Quinn and the consistent I Can't scenes where Elise is more than likely to come back and save Quinn. Other than that it was a great addition to the Insidious franchise. Waiting on the next one... I like how the story is focused on Elise and we get to see why the woman in black/white was so obsessed with her. I felt the pain Quinn was feeling about losing her mother and having a brat as a younger sibling. The dad was also relatable and another small but big thing that I liked about the dad was that when Quinn told him "I thought it was mom at first, but its something else. Do you believe me?" He said yes. I literally jumped up and clapped. Of course I looked like an idiot but please inform me of any other horror/supernatural movie where the antagonist's loved ones believe them until something happens to them. Oh in other movies it might take a little convincing that there's a spirit out waiting in the dark for your soul. But getting back on topic this movie was pretty good. Spoiler!!!! Elise fought that demon! I was like go Elise kick her ass!
