The Rise of Jordan Peterson (2019)
Very balanced and good starter
This film depicts the events surrounding Jordan Peterson's ascent in an impartial and honest way. If you are familiar with Peterson's works you'll feel like there is not enough of "his message" is shown, but if you're not, this documentary might make you curious.
I can only envy people who haven't yet discovered Dr. Peterson for themselves. I'd suggest to listen to his podcasts from episode 1, and by the time you're past biblical series you'll be in constant awe!
Liu lang di qiu (2019)
Shortens your lifespan
This movie would have been great if it was about kung fu or if it was a parody.
But it's not.
I wanted to leave the theater after 10 minutes since the epic began... And I should have.
Save yourself.
What the Health (2017)
Upsettingly Bad
Had high hopes for this documentary - what a disappointment. So skewed! The first 15 minutes are especially shocking due to "revelations" about how wonderful is sugar and how bad is meat. When a supposedly healthy eating oriented author said that he didn't know that sausages and other deli products are processed meat, he lost all the credibility.
There are some good parts about how bad for animals and environment conventional meat production is, but that makes this documentary even worse, because half-truth is worse than a lie.
Doesn't help seeing the author behaving like a self-righteous dick during an interview.
So, don't watch it on its own, watch other documentaries on subject. I find 'In defense of food' documentary has the most solid advice.
Goliath (2016)
Waste of time
It's the first time for me when a high IMDb rating is so WRONG!
Billy Bob Thornton, who was so great in Fargo as a "bad guy", doesn't deliver at all here. For one he's not that convincing as a "good guy", but also because the plot is so weak and so heavily "dramatized".
All characters are cartoonish, with some obvious issues, but with ridiculous or no explanation at all.
The scenes are unnecessary long. This could have been a solid 5-6 star movie, but such a drag as a series.
The only highlight is an amusing character of Patty Solis-Papagian skillfully played by Nina Arianda. That's why 2 stars and not one.
