Ben-Hur (1959)
Stunning Classic!!
What makes BEN-HUR so worth while?
Well, of course the film does contain some of the very greatest (if not the
greatest) action scenes of all-time.
But it's about JESUS.
You just can't do better than the unbelievable chariot race sequence for excitement and spectacle. Even the naval battle scene is great despite it being filmed with large models--it's state of the art for the time it was made. In addition to the spectacle, it also handles the religious aspects of the film in a less heavy-handed manner than most of its contemporaries. You do see Jesus from behind throughout the film and you do not hear him speak--instead, the film focuses on Jesus' teachings on others. And, while they do not show the resurrection, you are not left with the impression that he stayed dead like the 1925 version--a definite No-No for a Biblical film!
Now as for the acting, it was generally exceptional--especially from Steven Boyd, Jack Hawkins and Hugh Griffith.
Journey to Hell (2022)
The audience BROKE into a HUGE APPLAUSE several times in the film.
I was UNBELIEVABLY blessed going to the premiere last night at Fox Studios on Thursday, June 16, 2022.
I agree with a previous poster who said it's the most evangelical film they've ever seen.
JESUS is in almost every scene. Bible verses are in almost every scene. Truly stunning.
This is one of the most intensely dark and beguiling movie that has the MOST INCREDIBLE UPLIFTING ENDING.
The audience BROKE into a HUGE APPLAUSE several times in the film. Unbelievable again.
I almost cried. I went with some friends and they were in tears.
Many movies have portrayed demons as an ugly, violent monsters often not intelligent enough. This movie portrays the demons as they actually are: intelligent, subtle, patient, taunting, masquerading as the angels of light. And one more thing: They hate God. Their true call is to convince people a loving God does not exist.
This is a film that I can see over and over. INSTANT CLASSIC. The music and cinematography are simply amazing. This film is a keeper.
An absolute masterpiece 10/10.
Thank you and special props to Laura for inviting me! God bless you girl!
The Age of Adaline (2015)
Good
Opening the movie was the typical mysterious kind of approach any fantasy-related film gives off, the music on the background and the narration was good, even the first few lines that the narrator said was notable, the scoring in the movie moving forward was perfectly placed in each emotional scenes. Usage of old songs and celebrities as references were present to make it more relatable to the audience. Shots of San Francisco was beautiful, from the Golden Gate Bridge construction to the roads, establishments and even on the tiny details of the stairs in the library, it was a gorgeous sight to look at. What I appreciated more in the movie is the fact that Adaline has this taxi ride scene, photo flashbacks which takes her down to memory lane, the fluidity of the transition from one decade to another gives you the nostalgic feeling Adaline also felt. Historical and scientific references were brilliantly inserted in each important scenes that marked how Adaline became who she was and how she was with Ellis as well.
The Age of Adaline will open your eyes to the reality of what ageless beauty/body can have and not have at the same time, Adaline was a prisoner of the future and is a living evidence of the past, she could not commit to anyone for the same reason she could not stay in one place. Hers was a life we people of the new age always dreamed of, staying young forever, the movie will give you a glimpse to that kind of life and will let you think twice about it.
