A 50's B movie
2 February 2009
Warning: Spoilers
This was not an entertaining movie. It seemed to go nowhere. Maybe that was the point, since the characters were on their way to nowhere. But why does the audience have to go there too? First, a group of punks terrorizes a town. Then we're supposed to feel sorry when the head punk is caught and is beaten by townspeople? Like the townspeople are intolerant, violent thugs and the motorcycle punks are not? Like the townspeople are a brainless violent mob but the punks aren't? And then it ends with the head punk running away like a wimp? It was not much of an ending. But it wasn't much of a movie. It seemed like an overly-long introduction to a movie. I kept waiting for a plot, but it never arrived. If Brando (one of the most over-rated actors of all time, not a real actor but an over-actor) was not in it, it would be another forgettable B-movie from the 50's.

One of the worst
30 December 2008
Warning: Spoilers
This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. There can be no spoilers for this movie because it wasn't about anything. It had no plot, no meaning, no nothing -- unless that was the point of the movie, which I guess it was. But making a movie about two pot-heads biking across country is not much of a plot, especially when the characters are so unlikeable. Does anybody care if they run into trouble from rednecks who don't like theses unbathed and unfriendly characters? In order to like this movie, you would have to be as stoned out of your mind as the people who were making it at the time. And even then you can give it only two "wow man's."

Good but flawed
6 November 2008
Warning: Spoilers
This is a good movie, a thriller, but there needs to be a lot of "suspended disbelief" on the viewer's part to make it work for you. And there are some unexplained circumstances that make the viewer pause and wonder. For example, the villain, played by Ross Martin, seems to be an evil genius who is a master of disguise, manipulation, and eluding the police and FBI. But if he's such a genius, why doesn't he rob the bank himself? And why is is trying to get a naive, inexperienced, lowly teller to do it? That just bothered me through the whole movie. It didn't fit. The energy he put into manipulating a naive teller into pulling a big bank heist could have been better put to use by doing the job himself. It's not a minor point I'm making; it's enough to get in the way of the movie. If that was better explained, it would have made it a much better film. I realize the point wasn't just a bank heist plot, it was terrorizing a scared woman into doing it. But it's a loose end that should have been better addressed.

A terrible movie
4 March 2007
This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. What kind of character was Pacino portraying? Who comes up with this kind of dialogue and who suggested that Pacino portray the character in this ridiculous manner? I expected the kid to interrupt Pacino and blurt out, "Who talks like that?" Remember the Seinfeld episode where Mr. Bookman is the library cop who does a hilarious straight-face parody of a serious Jack Webb of Dragnet? Pacino's character is acted like a smart-ass Lt. Kojak doing a serious impersonation of Mr. Bookman. There were about ten times more "hoo-haw" belches from Pacino that the average viewer should have to endure. And what was the point of this movie? It had no real story. Pacino is seriously over-rated and this movie was terrible.

A hilarious film
9 July 2006
This is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen -- not surprising, since it stars Jack Benny, one of the funniest stars ever. Jack is believable both as a nice guy and as a meanie. You might think his mean acts wouldn't be as funny, but the way he does them is the funniest part of the movie. And there is always a newspaper photographer to record it. The movie's only drawback is that it is so short, less than an hour. Usually, especially today, movies drag on too long and wear out their welcome. Jack Benny has never worn out his welcome. This movie should be on DVD. Perhaps a box DVD set with other under-appreciated Jack Benny movies.
