Aberration (1997)
Remember, it's a TV Movie
I had mixed thoughts about this movie, but remembering that it was a SciFi Channel made for TV movie, the few things I didn't care for can be overlooked.
I love the whole idea behind the lizards. Spontanious molecular regeneration, combined with spontanious evolution made these things quite frightening had I been in the same situation.
There were a few ideas they should have thought of in the basis of these lizards however, like having at least one develop rather large. Normally I wouldn't care, but Marshall did recognize the possibility of a Komodo type lizard right in the beginning,...and Marshall,...they have grown to 13.5 feet, ten was not the largest. Also if they were going to go with the whole evolution thing, taking on traits of all reptiles, as well as amphibians, they could have tried making a few of the creatures warm blooded, so the snow outside would not even be safe.
As far as acting goes, I thought Pamela Gidley was quite good, and made up for poor Simon Bossell, who over played his character very badly. Valeri Nikolayev from The Saint was quite overplayed as well, however, this was forgivable since his character was quite entertaining, playing something of a Russian prince turned wild west gunslinger.
All in all, I was quite amused with this film, and will buy it. No, I didn't find this to be the scariest movie I've ever seen, still, it was quite entertaining. I might even look forward to a sequel, assuming some of the reptiles found a safe haven in Mrs. Miller's car.
By the way, I loved Pamela Gidley's hair.
Hostel (2005)
A tad boring
Well, OK, I enjoyed the blood and gore and guts and veins in my teeth of it all. This part wasn't so bad. Personally, however, I would not count this as a good horror, or suspense. As horror goes,... to tell you the truth, I was bored, rather than frightened, and you had to wait through three quarters of the movie for any actual horror at all. To make up for it, the first three quarters were filled with nudity. This, unfortunately was even poor. As far as suspense goes, I found little to no suspense what so ever. The would-be suspenseful parts were filled with needless screaming, and loud, bash-em up violence.
Personally, I would categorize this as a low rate porno with a bloody ending. Personally, I believe watching Porkys, and then a boxing match would be more fulfilling, and I hate boxing.
All in all, this film was drab in my own opinion, and the long awaited 'horror' scenes were short, loud, and barely visible. However,...I doubt I will be traveling to that particular city in the near future.
Doom (2005)
Tribute To Nintedo Generation
Alright, so I'm a vid freak. I grew up in a world of bits and bytes, and it's effected me. Back in the day, when Macintosh had just ripened from Apple, I was running a Mac LCII, and thought it was the end all be all of the computer world. Not counting my Nintendo, or Atari 2600, My video game collection amounted to a subtle 3000 games, some of which I was beta testing for certain companies.
One of my favorite games was Doom. I would play that game for hours on end, and loved every minute of it.
This movie did not impress me in the beginning. I must admit I intended to watch simply out of loyalty to the game from ID software. I was not, however looking forward to what I had seen in the trailer, which was The Rock blasting away at anything that moves, and being bored to death by unrealistic graphics in an unrealistic setting.
While watching this film, I was reminded over and over how this is a testosterone based movie that was otherwise pointless. This, however was until a certain scene that blew me away. I cannot give the details of this scene, but if you have ever played Doom or any other first person shooter like Wolfenstein, or Duke Nukem, you will come to the same conclusion I did. I yelled, and laughed, and slammed fist on the chair I was sitting in. "Yeah! now this is awesome!" I cannot tell you anymore, go out, and rent this movie, or if you really liked the game, buy the movie. You will absolutely love it.
Reyak Post Script: you'll love the end title as well.
The L Word (2004)
spice, but needs a bit more kick
Well, for one, L Word may be more like real life than you may know. It's the closest comparison I have seen. As for Dana's death, I am as well appalled. Her character is the perfect combination with Leisha's character. They really need to keep th good chars. Get rid of someone else. Helana, although very hot is not a crucial character, and let's face it, Tina and Bette's crap has gone on long enough don't you think? Put them back together, happily ever after and all that jazz, or get rid of one or both of them, I'm sick of it! I do miss all the controversy over the gallery. The L Word hit so many controversial issues in the first season, it was fantastic, and had quite a bit of heart. Addicted as I am, I just don't see the heart anymore,...apart from Leisha's character.
Fav pplz:
Leisha Hailey (like it wasn't obvious I've got a crush?) Kathrine Moening (how hot can you get?? wow!) Pam Grier (what can I say? she flat out kicks butt!) Daniela Sea (I doubt it, she plays the part so well, I wonder if she is really going though the change...)
The Butterfly Effect (2004)
Mind Warp
Well, I just watching the butterfly Effect for the third time with the same result. Every time I see this film I am left with a fog like feeling as if I am trying to either remember, or understand something. It always takes a few minutes to snap completely back to reality. No other film hits me quite like this one for some reason.
This film, not unlike Ray Bradbury's short story "A Sound Of Thunder", is definitely a mind warp. It's one of those films which no one can really like or hate. The only way I can explain my reaction to this film is that strong, and strange feeling you get sometimes while waking up from a dream, in this case not completely sure whether it really was a dream.
What overwhelms the senses most in this film is the raw truth to it. The evils of the story are inevitably something that consumes your own life or that of the lives around you.
I don't truly know what else to say about this film. Think back to your childhood. Whatever the recollection, try and remember everything you can right down to the most futile of details. Lay back, darken the room, and just remember. Take a few hours to do it. When you have done so, you might have some idea what this movie is truly about.
The Butterfly Effect is the only film that has ever changed my outlook on the reality.
Return of the Living Dead III (1993)
heart full gore
OK, I love the whole night of the living dead series. I got my first shot of one when I was about 6 years old. My big sister, her girlfriend and me sat and watched Return Of The Living Dead. They sat on a couch in a frightful embrace while I sat on the floor, nose to the screen laughing my *BEEP* off! The "thriller" dance towards the end was quite amusing.
Since then I have seen more horror films than I can count. I can't get enough of them, especially the B rated ones. Hellraiser is a personal favorite,...dark and gritty.
Night of the Living Dead 3 had all the blood and gore and guts, and veins in my teeth that I ever wanted, but there was more. This was the only horror movie I have ever seen with heart....not a pulsing gross one, but actual heart. From the undying love between a young man and his recently departed, to the 'Rat Man', this film had blood-lust, true lust, and pain.
When Curt "woke" Julie (a very pretty young actress by the way), she had to deal with the fact that she was no longer truly alive. Still, the most frightening, and pain full part of this movie is what the military was doing to the zombies.
As this movie progresses you begin to realize that the soul of the people who turn into the zombies still exist in one form or another. You also see that the zombies feel pain, and an undying hunger.
This was the only horror movie I ever wound up with nightmares about. The scene where the military is very painfully drilling an exoskeleton into Rat Man, while Julie, the next victim sits naked and bound watching the whole thing from her cage sent shivers down my spine.
Out of all the zombies from the entire series, the living people in this movie were the most horrifying and brutal.
The soul of the movie does not end there, if you like Romeo and Juliet, you aught to light this ending. All in all, not for the weak of heart, but a great movie that I will never forget.
Serendipity (2001)
A Simple Twist Of Fate
I just finished watching Serendipity for the fourth time. I see a great deal of movies, and enjoy most of them. In all my years, there is one movie that has ever brought me to tears. Although, it is an otherwise happy, though at times, heart wrenchingly suspenseful film, the story means a great deal to me, having experienced a like circumstance in my own life... I am still awaiting the Hollywood ending.
Most people believe in fate, to a point, but I never did. This was fact until my own experience that seemed as though it was right out of the movie. Even now, I cannot watch the movie without pining on every scene, silently urging the film forward to the final beautiful scene. The romantic interludes still provoke me to smile, and the drama still makes me cry.
Though this is not my favorite movie, due to an understandable history, it is still the one I watch with a bowl of ice cream, and a bottle of Grand Marnier, whenever I feel depressed or nostalgic.
For the few of you out there who have found your true love, please, sit with the other half of your soul, drink a bottle of wine, eat some pasta, and watch this movie from start to finish, and do not miss a single scene. Serendipity is a story for lovers, and the truly romantic at heart, and I will continue to view it long after I have found my one and only, and the story can only get more beautiful in time.

Grease 2 (1982)
Yet Another Sequel
OK, I hate sequels. Why make a sequel out of a good movie, only to spit on its name? For that matter, if the movie stunk, why make a sequel to remind people?
I'm sorry, but Grease stunk. The only thing mildly entertaining about G1 was the final scene, and watching and laughing as John Travolta shook his thang. LOL. Why would you ever make a sequel to a movie that horrible?
That being said, why did they make G1 in the first place? G2 should have been the original, it was so good. OK, we have some no name acting here, but a few we know.
Maureen Teefy as some of us know played Lois Lanes Cousin, Lucy, from Supergirl. Not the best acting in the world, but she has a cute face that makes up for it.
Didi Conn has reappeared as the Beauty School Dropout, Frenchy, from the original movie. She does seem to settle things, and make it feel a bit more like home,....even that voice seems settling...at times.
And of course, we all know Michelle Pfeiffer. But frankly, I'm sure most of the boys out there would like to get to know her better,..I know I would. Hint,...buy ALL her movies!
OK, so the scene starts off rather familiar. Everyone is coming back to school, sure it isn't the very next day, but I swear I got a Porkys II flashback. I just loved this movie, and...even a few of its songs. Reproduction was quite funny, Score Tonight was great, and very catchy, as was Cool Rider. Still, since Cool rider was Michelle Pfeiffers only solo song, it ranks up there anyway. Love her dance number to it as well.
Anyway, I think for a sequel, this movie ruled. I think, however,...grease 1 should have been the sequel. I hope you agree.
a cool rider, a cooooooool rider if he's cool enough, he can burn me through and through whoooa if it takes forever, then I'll wait forever. No ordinary boy, no ordinary boy is gonna do, I want a rider that's cool...............
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (2005)
42
I cannot express how much I loved this movie!! I loved the book, (I read the hole series) and I loved the original BBC version of the movie, but nothing compares to this.
The little things about this movie were great, from the spatulas, to the cameo in the "DMV". (how cool was that by the way,...I hope someone noticed!...Life,...don't talk to me about life.....).
I don't remember any movie being better than the book until now, although I have to admit, Zooey played quite a part in my approval.
The casting was perfection.
I was worried about having another actor play Ford Prefect since the original was so great, but Mos Def totally landed this one!
It would not have taken much to find a better actress to play Trisha McMillan due tot he fact that the original was too dumb to be so smart, but no one could have played it better than Zooey Deschanel, no one! (And shes REALLY CUTE TOO!!)
Marvin was great, but the tin can that he replaced was missed. (although apparently not forgotten) I don't actually remember Humma Kavula even being in the book I read or the original series, but John can play just about any role to perfection...especially the odd ones.
As for the comedy, there wasn't much more than there was in the book. If you are anything like my mother, who hated this movie, you should read the next books in the series. The humor in this movie is outstanding, but a lot cannot be understood without reading the later books...case in point,...the petunias.("oh no...not again!") Its just the way Adams writes.
In all, watch it,...then buy it,...then buy all the books, then read them,..then watch the movie again. You'll never know what I mean unless you do it.
As a quick side comment, i lived the new version of the Eagles Journey Of The Sorcerer. I loved the original as well...even got my parrot whistling it.
Also the Magrathea planatary workshop scene was a visual masterpiece, but made me a little uncomfortable,...i have a bit of acraphobia!
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (1981)
Weird...
OK, I LOVE every book I have ever read from Douglas Adams, which happens to include all (was it 5?) books in the Hitchhiker "trilogy". This movie was great, it really was.
From the horribly made second head to the distainable acting from Trillion, its a wonder I like this movie so much, but I did. (movie,...actually it was a couple of episodes). I did however like Arthor Dent, the mean who played him was perfect for the role. I also like the fact that much of the movie was line for line from his book. (one version of it anyway).
The only thing I did not care for is the movie was both the first and second book combined. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see an entire series, but at least name them one by one.
In all, I thought the movie was fantastic. Besides who doesn't love a clinically depressed robot?? "life,...dont talk to me about life.."
Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999)
what??
sorry,..I did not like this movie. The acting was OK for the documentary setting, but the only good thing about this movie was Kirsten Dunst.
I will watch any movie till the end, but without her presence I would have turned the thing off after 10 minutes.
I normally would not comment this poorly on any movie but all I got from this one was a headache. And why,...oh why do people still cast that woman from Cheers?? Hasn't Hollywood learned by now?
Sad. very sad. whats worse is I bought the DVD before seeing the movie. Dumb, Very dumb.
- Kirsten, I still love you! ;v)
Dream a Little Dream (1989)
Dreaming Of Merideth
OK, cats out of the bag, I have had a crush,...or more of a crunch on Merideth Salanger since i was....when did this movie come out?? Otherwize this move was great, soundtrack and all. The "Corey Brothers" were outstanding as usual, Merideth was HOT, even the weirdo parents of Feldmans character played,...what ever parts those were perfectly....a bit odd, but perfect.
The old man was great too, as was his beautiful wife.
All in all, the story line was great, and even at my young age at the time, was simple enough to follow. I just loved this movie, it is number one of my top ten.
Herbie: Fully Loaded (2005)
Winner and still champion....HERBIE!!
I have seen a lot of movies, remakes of movies, and sequels. Why in the world would Disney have tried to put out a new Herbie after so long is beyond me. Herbie is not made for todays youth! And Lindsey Lohan? Please...fine, she did great with the other Disney remakes, but why push it??
Yeah,...right...Herbie was better than ever! The graphics made him more intelligent, funnier, and twice as lovable!
Lindsey,...sorry, although I went to see you mostly, and you did an amazing job (and SO cute too!)...your little Bug stole the show! I cannot express how much I loved this film. GO HERBIE!! BEEP BEEP!!!
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005)
you have got to be joking
I have never in my life thought so badly of a film. I love movies. I especially love remakes of old movies, and sequels to old movies. How could anyone make the original any worse??? The original movie staring Gene Wilder was only worth watching,...because of Gene Wilder! The remake? I would not pay money to see it again,...I would not TAKE money to see it again. I am so disappointed.
Although the trailers and its creator made me slightly wary, I could never have been prepared for the bad acting,...the disco oompa loompa(s), or how poor in taste this movie was. They made Wonka a nut,...and I wont even go into why.
