7/10 but i gave it 10 to offset the haters.

This movie was fantastic. If you grew up with power rangers you will LOVE this. They cleverly explain away why some of the original rangers arent there. The main two that reprise their roles are fun to watch even tho they are by far the worst actors in the movie. But its not really about that is it? Its about that nostalgia and that smile you cant hide when you see and hear the "boolooolooloooloolloooo" of the putties and rita's voice.

Despite the terrible acting at parts there are some really good things here.

First the young asian girl that plays the daughter... she def carries the fun with her acting and i think her martial arts abilities if she does her own.

The fight choreography is like 50 times better than you'll see in triple a blockbusters like Resident Evil (anderson's jump cut crap). Actually done quite well.

The story was actually good... fit nicely in modern times. Concise. Entertaining.. sometimes funny.

Great fan service. I dont see how anyone could give this a bad review honestly. It kept and improved on the original feel of power rangers from the 90's. I know theres a million iterations in Japan and in NA after the 90's version. But this pays perfect homage to the 90s version and as someone that watched it religiously as a kid... trust when I say it delivers. Laugh at the bad acting by Billy and love the fighting by the rest. Laugh at how all the rangers after morphing are the same height but vary greatly when in human form. THAT is part of what makes this movie perfect.

I watched the 2017 power rangers movie RIGHT after this.. and my god what a piece of utter sh- in comparison.

the exorcists meets revenge thriller meets superhero movie
4 May 2023
Started out as a horror... transitioned to a revenge plot? Then to some superhero stuff. 10/10 would recommend a gummie before watching. But Crowe is fantastic to watch in this. The kid does a wicked job as well. All in all good film. Not what I expected by the end. It just keeps escalating across genres and epicness tho. Just when you think damn. It goes more.

Some pacing issues though. What would take a normal person 30 seconds to walk from a to b takes Crowe over 15 mins while other events transpire at times. That leaves a little meh... and some illogical things like "most dangerous demon ever" but lets leave the family alone and unprotected while we just chill outside and such.

Recommended tho. Its good fun for the whole family.

expected a "vikings"/"the last kingdom"-like epic... its not that.
9 June 2022
If you go in thinking its gonna be a war-like epic based on vikings and that era like the popular shows, you'll be disappointed. That doesnt make the movie bad, just not really properly marketed. If you know the director's other work prior, then maybe you can anticipate it... I didn't realize going in.

That said, it's interesting and unique. Has minor action and drags quite a bit overall despite the visuals which go heavily into a fantastical dream-like place. The story in general was much too basic to hold a movie audience for longer than 1.5 hrs, so pushing just over 2 was this movie's biggest weakness I think.

Acting was good, twist was very very predictable, visuals were interesting and production quality was solid. Its decent, despite wanting to maybe see some of the cooler scenes again, its not really a "re-watch" due to the length so I wouldn't say its great... just almost good. There was a lot of grunting and yelling.

I donno how they have such a cast and made a snorefest.
24 May 2022
They should change the title of this movie to "old guys talking" cuz the majority of the movie is just that. Grillo is hit or miss. Not in his performances but in his selections. Kingdom was amazing, boss level was original and good. Butler usually does good movies but this one was a dud. They coulda got any two random dudes and the movie would be no better or worse.

There's nothing specifically BAD about the parts of this movie...its just boring... and forgettable.

its... ok I guess.
24 May 2022
I love the games. I'll never forget the epic sinking ship scene in 3 I think it was. This movie tried to capture that crazy hectic but smooth and fun traversing of terrain during a catastrophe and it succeeds a bit but ultimately doesnt.

The acting is ok but the writing isn't strong at all. The dialogue becomes repetitive and boring as well as the themes. It's as cliche as any basic movie you've ever seen.

If you like the later fast and the furious movies (the ones with the inhuman flying thru the air jumping off a car and landing on the moon kinda stuff then you'll enjoy this, if you can get past some of the super fake looking CGI.

Felt more like a disney animated movie... so maybe kids will like it. Its not really a "for the fans" movie... but what video game to movie is really.

Id have given ti a 6 if theyd casted anyone but Marky Mark as Sully. Tommy Wiseau even. I'm just so bored of Marky Whalbergs face and voice... and he didnt fit the role at all. On top of him not being right for it, he barely phoned it in.

Boring af.

Worse CGI I've seen in a LONG time.

Boring....

Acting is terrible.

Did I mention how incredibly boring this is?

An absolute waste of time and brain cells to watch this. It is really that bad. Disaster movies are my favourite genre of all time.... its been awhile since we've had a good one. Dont look up was fun but this.... I wouldn't even watch it for free, its that bad.

What a good movie.
24 May 2022
Solid acting all the way through. This is required because its a close quarters tense drama all the way through.

The characters are likable and believable. Char progression goes from zero to 100 in the span of the movie and it feels natural somehow.

Woulda been much better if they didnt crap out at the ending a little bit. It was still acceptable but seemed a bit unnecessary.

Was a good candidate for one of those "single shot" all the way through kinda movies if they'd tweaked the timeline a bit. Ah well.

Never boring, don't skip this one.

Realllllly dry.

Mildly boring.

Actions of the characters are nonsensical and you will not care about any of the characters... at all.

Literally after the scene that starts the "contract" I said out loud, "oh they better not do the cliche ******** storyline".

Sure enough they did exactly that. The oldest "new mercenary first gig action movie" cliche in the book. You will predict it as I did. 100%... very early on.

Only thing I learned from this movie:

Even the best of the best highly skilled marines like to stand out in the open under the brightest light in the world and not move at all, while having a shootout with a bad guy thats behind cover in a house. Smart....

Skip this one.

good if you dont go in thinking its a "war epic"
24 May 2022
Acting and writing is good. Story telling is well done and never gets repetitive or boring. If you go into this thinking its the next "braveheart" or something you'd be very disappointed. Its not meant to be an "action movie".

Direction overall was decent but at the start the timeline will be a bit confusing. Coulda been a bit shorter probably though.

pretty good... took a little long to get to the point.
24 May 2022
Watched this with zero context. Didn't even know if it was a horror, comedy whatever.

I love horror films and this one was pretty good actually. Felt a bit rushed at the end and just took a little bit too long to get to the point which then made it feel kinda rushed. Otherwise the acting and filming was good. Cinematography was good too. Made it feel very 70's look while maintaining a modern HD look at the same time.

good set design and slightly captures the look for RE... thats about it.
24 May 2022
Still a million times better than the mila garbage but thats not saying much at all.

Jill is black.

Leon is ... hispanic?

Chris looks right.

Wesker could be blonder but worksish.

Leon is the biggest panzy in the world. Like a legit child afraid of every little thing. Theres no story here and the acting is meh. They tried to fit the games RE 1 2 and 3 into a single movie with no story. Literally just plopped all the names into a set with no story and no motives. Only two actors look kinda like the chars and only thoseactually act like their respective characters.

How these directors keep getting movies, how these trash films keep getting funded I'll never know.

We very much dislike super hero movies. The candy colored same old, "big bad alien/creature/mutation guy threatens the city/world and cue the cgi and destroyed city..." boring.

This movie felt like an actual adult made unrelated horror movie. It didn't feel comic book-y at all (i like comic books). The cgi, though obviously cgi blended nicely and wasnt too overly used. The acting was good and the action scenes were good.

Don't believe the BS reviews. This is pretty decent. We watched this the same night as Uncharted and this was better. Uncharted was decent but boring and cliche. This movie was something kinda new.

Star Trek: Discovery (2017–2024)
2/10
....just...very very cringe.
4 April 2022
TLDR: If you like watching people break down and cry, scream and OVERact like an emotionally wrecked 15 year old literally HALF the time in EVERY episode... then this show is for you.

Cringe is the right word to describe the show. I am a long time star trek fan. Not hard core or "there from the beginning", but TNG was on when I was like 7 and I've watched TNG, Voyager, DS9 multiple times over and Enterprise once or twice.

The good parts are... its Star Trek. The FX are good but actually TOO polished and too over the top. But over the top is what describes the rest of the show.

The writing is WEAK. They pretty much cover every single writer's cliché for any and every situation. Like grade 7 English class caliber writing and the most predictable outcomes ever. The writing starts out weak and actually gets worse as the show goes on. Considerably worse... there is ONE single twist in the entire show that is actually decent. The rest very poorly done and very uninteresting.

Now the older school Star Treks were not known for their top tier writing or acting but they are also a product of their time. Television shows have been on par or even beyond movies in popularity lately. The production quality, acting and writing in shows like Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul...even the Expanse is well beyond what we saw in the 90's and 2000's... hell The Last Ship has much much better writing than this show.

But the main character is the definition of over-acting. Omg she is so annoying I had to stop watching the show.. I just hard stopped Season 3 episode 1. She cries.. like BALLS her eyes out in EVERY SINGLE EPISODE. I'm not kidding or exaggerating. There's sappy dumb goodbyes in every episode as well. I legit got a headache from rolling my eyes and didnt realize it at first... every single episode she screams AND cries, AND over reacts. I can't believe it. Like someone had to watch this and after 3 episodes be like "uhm.... is she gona cry for 5 mins in every episode?" ... yes. The answer is yes.

Its SO BORING!!!! Then when shes excited about something or serious.... its like high school drama class.... the acting is terrible. Not like Shatner hilarious terrible or Jonathan Frakes reacting to 90's effects terrible.. but actually BAD acting and BAD over acting. Not just the main char but shes by far the worst... the side characters too... The one girl I guess they want to get across she has ADHD or something cuz shes talks a mile a min and is crazy excitable. But not in the believable way... plus she never calms down. There is ZERO character development in three seasons.... i dont know how in 2022 filmmakers and writers dont understand that a char crying and shouting doesn't equal "development". The only character who's acting and character ACTUALLY progresses and is believable is Saru, but he doesnt get enough screen time or progression to save the show... not even close.

The directing is decent but not good enough to save it from its own writing which really goes nowhere.. it goes in circles a LOT. I mean A LOT. Watch DS9 or Voyager and it starts out a bit cringey too... but as it goes on despite the quirky and sometimes over acting from some key chars.. the overall story builds and the chars are likable. This show.... the story never builds. Its all just like events that fire off and youre like.. "oh ok". And then the chars do something but never actually experience any loss or learn anything. In fact, every char other than Saru plays out exactly like an entitled 17 year old at every step of the way. Its just unbelievable how bad it is.

I sat through 2 full seasons just now and had to shut it off in the first episode of the 3rd when the over acting happens literally.. within the first 2 mins and doesnt let up. Now I'm ranting to vent the frustration. So crappy they got a huge budget and rights to the IP and they go and toss it into a black hole.

What an epic failure. Imagine Picard or Janeway full on crying every single episode over nonsense. Like fully trained Starfleet officers of the highest rankings acting like emotionally cringey teens. I wish Q was real and could just rest the timeline to where this show was never thought of.

Dexter: New Blood (2021–2022)

as a long time Dexter fan...
17 February 2022
... I loved it.

The original was good... sometimes great... mostly good. I just loved most of the characters over the years. I didn't like the hazey Miami look and feel of the original but I learned to live with it.

In this, the acting all around was great. In the world of remakes and revisits, most being horrible, this was refreshing. Maybe one or two "really?" or "well thats convenient" moments.. but overall it was great.

Great directing, great cinematography and great acting. The look and feel of the new location was awesome. The writing was good but predictable, minus one star for the cliche kinda average plot.

Probably not the ending most fans wanted but in reality the one the series deserved. The down side to how it played out though in a limited series was that it felt rushed and hurt the believability a bit. Still a great way to end the last episode.

Good job.

Ghosts of War (2020)

great filmography, directing and some great acting. never boring...
4 February 2022
I like to be hard on movies in general but i have a soft spot for horror movies and zombie movies. From the backing art in netflix I thought it was a zombie movie but its not.

The filming and directing are actually very very good. The acting from the main char and especially the sniper dude are worth watching in general. The other supporting actors are just ok, but they also had less emotional and reactionary dialogue.

I really enjoyed the story, the twist was actually quite good. It was never at all boring... which is important. Some of the effects were kinda cheesy but they did a good job of keeping it creepy without having to show too many fake fx.

Directing, pacing and filmography were definitely great. Acting was good... I probably could have watched an entire serious war movie of these 5 chars defend a location for 4 hours and it would be interesting with this film style and directing.

The subtle hints throughout that many probably missed were a nice touch... the actors even react to such things which the viewer wouldnt get until later thinking back on it. It coulda done without the final scene and religion bs aspect though tbh... if they ended it calmly after the major twist was revealed I think it would have been less cheesy and more impactful as an ending.

i kept looking at the doorway....HOPING Michael was waiting there to kill me.
26 October 2021
... alas he was not and I had to suffer this crapfrest.

There are TWO great parts to this film, I have one star for each.

  • Michael Meyers (and the actor that plays him)
  • Music

They make Meyers very brutal and really show his "super naturalness". The actor shows it well considering its all body movement and he's genuinely scary to see in front of you. The addition that MOST of the victims dont even bother to beg to live helps show how much everyone believes they're forked...or knifed.

I doubt that lack of begging was intentional though because the writing is horrid. I can't decide whats worse, the acting or the writing. I don't really care like a lot of people seem to that Curtis spends most of the movie int he hospital... shes actually kinda cringey to watch in the recent films. But damn the main hooligan looking guy with a bat that yells "evil dies tonight" a million times out of place is so hard to watch. His lines are terrible, he delivers them terrible and none of it is even remotely engaging.

The same trickles down to the mob of civilians, the acting all around is just atrocious. The scenes and lines are repetitive and make no sense, even for a horror flick.

Feels like a bunch of ideas strung together and none of them play out or were thought out. Just filler to allow Michael to go around killing... which would be fine if they didnt try and make it mean something.

Very disappointed as a franchise fan.

I Care a Lot (2020)

my eyes hurt a lot from eye rolling....
14 October 2021
I donno if it was supposed to be a comedy or thriller? Or something surreal in a different dimension... but i wished it would have decided.

As a serious movie its awful. NONE of it is even remotely believable. We're supposed to believe that Dinklage and his associates have done this thing (in their past) successfully up til now, but literally not ONE.. not even a SINGLE one... of his people do their job without MASSIVELY messing it up. Not even one time... how is that remotely believable considering this is their daily full time job? Makes ZERO sense. Especially after countless ppl talk him up like hes this brilliant king pin. Even the lawyer is terrible at his job...

as a comedy its not funny at all save for a few lines early on. None of it plays out like a comedy so i cant imagine this is what they were going for but... if so... bad.

It feels like a half fleshed out black mirror future episode where theres like this tiny story around a world that is never explained and entirely impossible.

Oh.... theres also about 30 mins wasted of literally just wathing ppl work out in slow mo? The movie could have (should have) been 1h20mins.... instead it was 2 painful hours.

Terrible movie.

The acting seemed good for the two mains given what they had.. but Pike only ever plays this role so its not like it was a stretch for her and Dinklage never comes up short (ha ha...) that was funnier than anything youll see in this crap.

Enjoy.

"to be fair, you have to have a really high IQ to understand Rick and Mor- oh wait"
24 May 2021
Yep. It's another one of those. Though I've never watch Rick and Morty I can say it most likely has better writing.

This movie takes a concept that could be cool at first glance and then when you actually drill down (not deep) and look at it (for 5 sec), is absolutely stupid. "Imagine.. a bullet that functions in reverse time" .... *hits blunt*.

Those that are like "i dont get it....". You do... its just stupid. The concept itself is just dumb. Like travelling back in time like Back to the Future is not at all possible and never will be... mainly because the casual term time as we think about it, is hours and minutes and years and so on. In reality its a measurement we use to calculate growth of things. Plants, humans etc grow...die decay and the amount of time it takes is how we measure it. You can't UNDO that growth of the entire universe to be back at a state where things were "the 60's". And even if you could, it would still be current year but the things would be reverted. Anyway... the reason we love back to the future and movies like that is because when they go back on this impossible concept... there are rules, even in the ridiculousness. Those rules are based on fundamental basic principles.

This movie the rules are just grabbed out of thin air... whenever they decide they need to progress a plotline.. they just do the thing in reverse. Then later show the thing happening normally... in reverse. There's no rules or reason... stuff just happens backwards from the view of those in the present and its just stupid.

Hated it. The acting all around was solid though.

Scream Test (2020)
5/10
donno how to rate it honestly....
24 May 2021
It clearly purposely was going for a terribly filmed / acted 80's horror-comedy movie. Where its more comical than anything else.... I'm talking big tiddy camp counselors jumping around for no reason. Not actual 80's horror like Friday the 13th. So in that, they succeed... it is comical. The acting isn't nearly as bad as you'd think. The film quality is way worse than you'd think, same for the editing. Sometimes felt like I was watching one of those old school mid 90's lunch break from school shows with the slow fade out to white and then in.

The story wasn't half bad though for what it was and it played out decently. Wasn't completely predictable. Def keeping it for a "friends over bad movie night".

It's entertaining. It's kinda funny overall in terms of the action and dialogue and general premise... which I think is what it was going for? If not... then deserves a 3. But otherwise all I can say is its 5 times more entertaining than Army of The Dead which most likely had a much higher budget. Lol.

seriously terrible in every way.
24 May 2021
Acting - Awful. Everyone delivers their lines in the most over acted way. The screaming child to the slow talking omg finish a sentence pilot.

Writing - The plot is sooooo incredibly bad. The actual screenplay, like why chars move from here to here makes no sense at all. The actions of the chars is WELL beyond dumb. Like .... makes ZERO sense possible. I feel like maybe a joke was supposed to happen somewhere in this movie... nope. Majority of the movie is watching actors move from point A to point B in the slowest most boring way possible. Even the action scenes are boring as all hell.

Music - Awesome sound track that should never have been tainted on the likes of this crap. When I heard Zombie by the cranberries, all washed out and filtered over top this movie I wanted to cry.

Directing - Zack Snyder has got to be one of the worst directors in the last 10 years. Dawn of the dead was decent, but it did have its lulls. But my god... the moment this guy discovered slow mo...snap cut...slo mo again. My god, he never stops. From the opening to the ending.. its non stop slow mo.. snap cut.. slow mo. Same crap you see in all his super hero fight scenes. It would be a realllly cool effect if used sparingly.. but nope. EVERY OTHER CUT. This movie should be 75 mins TOPS. But it drags into 2 hours because of horrible dialogue, directing and editing.

I donno how anyone, even a film student... even an electrical student with an iphone could mess up a zombie movie this badly. But damn.. maybe thats why Snyder is so "popular" now. He's done what no one else ever could.... make one of the worst zombie movies ever made, while having a hollywood budget. I personally couldnt make a zombie movie as bad as this if I tried.. so ya.. he def has a talent, can't deny that.

My god, even the credits alone were 9-10 mins long, probably bunch of slow mow jump cutting there too. Such wow, puts John Woo to shame.

very good
19 September 2020
Hopefully the new Disney film sparks some interest in this one. This isn't the "kids" take on the tale. Theres a pretty cool atmosphere where it feels light and childlike (since the people in war can be quite young in real life, during the time) while still being graphic and brutal.

Its not perfect. You'll be lost a lot in terms of "how much time has passed?" For example. But it is a good watch. Good acting, action and lots of interesting story.

Imagine having a cool concept, a budget, good actors and using all of them for nothing...
18 September 2020
This movie is bad. The cast is good and the acting isn't bad considering but the actors could have done somuch better with real dialogue and story.

They got these 5 immortals who can fight and do stuff... they use them for... nothing. The entire premise is wasted. Most of the time they spend talking and "acting". Trying to make the movie deep and dramatic. But they still try and fill in with some "epic" fight scenes. While the fights look artsy which they were going for, they're a joke. They ALL look like a choreographed dance and .. in the literal sense. They arent super powers or super speed so why do the fights look like a high school theater rehearsal. Really makes you eye roll and takes you out of the moment.

Predictability. It follows every cliche possible from the characters types to the story. Having never heard of this title or its books before, from thee very first flash back story telling boring talk time scene, you will predict extremely accurately what the second movie will be about. *eye roll*.

Kinda Disney like at the start... where chars will randomly break out into (instead of song, a boring fight scene). Many plot holes... many "why did they bring that massive thing to the fight and it never gets used or explained or does anything". Why would they not kill that guy, he knows everything.... none of this makes any sense. Why would that guy do that to those people, he had zero motivation. There are multiple "..... she couldnt breathe.. at the end...*tear*" scenes that justify terrible dumb actions.

Literally this could have been written by a grade 9 drama student. Horrible movie considering the budget and the cast. Definitely not accurately rated...I'd rather watch the highlander movie where they were aliens and society agreed to forget that movie ever happened. At least fast and the furious movies know they're being ridiculous.. this is trying to be a dramatic artsy frankenstein and turns out to be just a dud.
