Happy Days: Get a Job (1975)
The Summer of '42 - Happy Days version
Have you seen the 1971 movie "Summer of '42"? Well this 1975 Happy Days episode was a short version of that movie. As I was watching it, I thought they may have gotten the idea from the movie, then I saw her name was Dorothy, and it confirmed it (same name as the character in the movie). The movie is very good, worth a watch for nostalgia. This episode is also good, very cute. The women who play Dorothy are both gorgeous and really nice!
Ok I must write more, for some reason it is requiring a 600 character review for a single episode of a tv show, so here is more text for you to read. Good episode!
Man with My Husband's Face (2023)
Fail, offensive
Sorry guys, you missed the mark on this one. Slow moving, drawn out scenes due to thin storyline, disjointed, predictable, offensive, and unappealing leads. The only appealing character, a lawyer, was quickly written out of the story. There was one line that was quite offensive. It was spoken by a black character who ran a kayak shop "I am normally loathe to involve the boys in blue, but..." why would she ever be "loathe" to involve cops? Is Lifetime endorsing the belief that cops seek to hurt innocent people? Why would you include a line like that in a Lifetime movie? I'm going to have to take a break from Lifetime after this fail.
The Prince & Me (2004)
Very cute nice movie. Worth a watch
Some reviewers on here have given it low ratings because they take it so literally. Of course it's not realistic, of course Danish people don't speak perfect British English - do you want subtitles?. They only have 2 hours, so they have to move things along, and they have to include all the standard elements: boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy gets girl back, boy loses girl again, etc etc. They have to make it a little unrealistic in how these things happen to fit it all in, but you get the gist. I had seen this movie years ago, and didn't think much of it, then I just watched it again with my sons and all 3 of us enjoyed it. Sure, we goofed on it a little bit, but overall it's a very pleasant, cute, worthwhile movie. Stiles does a great job in the role.
Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)
Phenomenal, especially for kids, but so very long, watch in installments
Mr. Cameron ought to make a rule for himself before he begins a movie. The rule is "The movie must be limited to 2:15." This movie was about 3:05.
This is a really good movie, I mean, there is no comparison between this and your everyday garden variety movie. This is amazing stuff, and must be really good on a large screen. I can't imagine how amazing it must've been in 3D. I saw it on a 60" TV on HBO.
There are drawbacks, as many other reviewers have noted. I was shocked when I realized they brought back the same villain that the first movie so tediously defeated in a 45 minute fight scene. The ignorant white republican coffee drinkin' military guy. He is their Darth Vader, their bogey man, and will appear in every movie I guess as the villain. He's so utterly cliche it's ridiculous. I was also shocked to realize this had a very similar plot to the first, wow, what a major mistake by Mr Cameron. Bring in new aliens, maybe non-earthlings, create an entirely new conflict for new reasons. Give white americans a break maybe?
It's quite offensive that all the bad guys were all white americans. Out of about 100 bad guys shown, 99 were white, and 1 was asian. And not just a little bad. I mean evil, ignorant, insensitive, all the while, once again casually drinkin' their mornin' joe. What would happen if the 'good guys' were this "non-diverse"? The street style dialogue of the Navi kids, which many complain about them using the word 'bro' a lot, was apparently intentional to represent them abstractly as people of color. So the white americans were completely evil, unemotional, insensitive, and out to get the POC.
So while there are major flaws that are disappointing, and really surprising that Mr Cameron could be that inane, the movie STILL overcomes them to be an absolutely great movie. I thought it was much better than the first one. It could've been one of the all time best movies ever made though with more common sense writing.
Picnic (1955)
Holden looked 50, and we're supposed to care about this romance?
The lead character that is supposed to steal the heart of every lady that meets him at the picnic appears 50 years old (in real life the actor is actually 37). As viewers, we don't care about 40+ year olds falling in love, ok? Get someone young, and re-do the movie, and then we'll talk.
The poor girl, who was played by a 22 year old actress, is considering leaving everyone she loves to be with a jobless bum 50 year old guy, and we're supposed to be moved by this? I felt sorry for her at the end. Her mother was exactly right. Within one month the guy would be hitting the bottle and probably her, then onto the next girl, since he seemed to cast a spell over every lady he met.
Summer of '42 (1971)
Nice mood
This movie is slow, but good for nostalgia, an older audience. Of course it's a ridiculous ending, but we can suspend reality there. It's a fantastical ending. She fulfilled his fantasy and moved on. They should've had the characters be 17 though instead of 15, they didn't need to be that young. It was cliché how he would never see or hear of her again, I could've predicted they'd have it that way. Btw, how naive was I to think back in the old days people were more conservative about pre-marital sex? This movie certainly makes it appear as people were as promiscuous as teens as they are today.
I thought the awful Brooklyn accent of the narrator ruined the beautiful mood of the closing scene. "In the summer of fawty-two..." Hermie didn't speak like that at all throughout the movie, but now as an adult he has an awful NY accent? The director just had to insert himself into the movie. Big negative.
Stage Door (1937)
Thoroughly enjoyed Stage Door
A very pleasant movie I thoroughly enjoyed. Two all time greats in their physical primes - ginger rogers and katherine hepburn. All the ladies in this film were great. Ginger is really something, so beautiful and personable. She's my new favorite. I think i'll travel back in time to be with her, as chris reeves did in 'somewhere in time'. I think she's waiting for me in 1937.

Sand Dollar Cove (2021)
Pleasant, Enjoyable
I liked the lead female. She is beautiful and was chill, so that appealed to me. It's a light feel good movie to pass some time, was fine.
South Park: South ParQ Vaccination Special (2021)
Disappointing
It was very disappointing. The laughs didn't come. Other reviews on here giving it 10s must be fake. They had six months to write this and this is what they came up with? Recent seasons have not been good. Almost as if the writers have been completely changed. South Park was once a very cute show, but it has lost it's way. Very good show in the old days though.
One Starry Christmas (2014)
pleasant, memorable
I liked it, a memorable one for me
It was very pleasant. breaking down in the middle of nowhere on a snowy night with a love interest will always pique my interest. that was my favorite scene. the girl was very appealing to me, so that helps too. the romantic song about two-thirds through was great, and her parents were great too. the back and forth between the existing bf and the future bf were quite funny. "law sounds exciting" - "yes well 6 figures is exciting, what's the farm paying these days?"
The Searchers (1956)
long and stupid
This movie was tediously long compared to the amount of things actually happening in it. also it has one of the stupidest plot twists in the history of film, when the lead character (john wayne) suddenly decides to attempt to shoot a beautiful 16 year old kidnapped white girl because from a distance he heard her utter a few comanche words. he failed in his attempt to kill her, and later we learned she is fine and not a deranged comanche. so why is he a hero? makes no sense. at the end a younger man saves her life, yet john wayne's character rides in with her and after safely delivering her he walks off into the sunset as an underappreciated hero in what is considered to be an epic scene. minor problem is it's nonsensical. absurd non-sequitors that had me rolling my eyes abound in this story.
i thought finally i would see a john wayne movie where he did something cool that earned him his reputation that i do not understand, but nope, he did nothing in this movie but talk tough.
22 July (2018)
the vijar show!
Vijar! vijar over here, we saved a spot for you! vijar can you go first out of these 200 kids? vijar is virtue signaling! vijar you're so cute, the girls love you! oh no, vijar are you ok? vijar is in the hospital. vijar is still in the hospital. vijar is still in the hospital. vijar is out now, he's alive! but he's upset, oh no! vijar is struggling with life! no!
good movie, but have remote in hand to skip through the full hour of vijar scenes. it was originally a 3 part miniseries, totals 2 hrs 30 min. they didn't realize they over-vijar'd it.
The Old Man & the Gun (2018)
could you imagine going to this movie on a date?
Imagine it's friday night, you have a first date. you take her to a theatre, not knowing which movie you will see. this movie is starting soon, so you say ok, let's choose this. you go in with your date to watch it. long story short, your date is bored to tears and you feel ridiculous for taking her to it! no fast forward button for all the time filler anguished and frustrated cop hanging out with his kids scenes.
i was able to get through it thanks to the ffwd button. the story is a non-story though. what is a non-story? it's a story that is not worth hearing lol.
Night Shift (1982)
simply awful
This movie was awful. i had heard about this movie for so many years, but never saw it, so i figured i would watch it, over the course of a week. i sat through scene after scene waiting for it to get ok, but it never did. just a terrible humorless ridiculous implausible movie. winkler was awful in it and no wonder he wasn't in any other movies. keaton is insufferable, how he ever became popular is a mystery, because he was awful in both this and gung ho which came out a few years later. shelley long was ok, but that's about it. this movie had nothing.
Family Pictures (2019)
darn good
Well how 'bout that, i'm the first reviewer! well i liked this movie a lot. it got into the story very quickly and moved along fast. it's ye' old 'guy has two families' plot, one on each coast. but it's well done. he gets busted early in the movie, so it's mostly about how the wives deal with the aftermath, picking up their lives while juggling their teen kids issues, etc. the plot kept moving along, no boring parts. great acting by the two ladies. the character played by elizabeth rohm was quite funny, both actresses were great. i think any wine drinkin' socially stressed desperate wife or husband will enjoy this movie. as hallmark type movies go, this is among the best i have seen, so i gave it a 10.
Chernobyl (2019)
only have seen Ep 1 so far, but shocking is best way to describe.
This show is heavy, real heavy, and you need to see Ep 1 first. Wow, this show is good, the story is stunning as we know, and they had a budget. I recommend it, but just be prepared to feel sad and shocked. I will be watching all episodes.
The Wrong Teacher (2018)
not bad, first half was good.
It held my attention for the first two thirds or so, then it just got sideways with the typical "main character solving the mystery/crime herself rather than calling the cops" thing. eric roberts was really good in it, they should've had more of his character in the story.
Walking Tall (1973)
incredibly stupid
Ok story line, but the way things unfolded was so stupid. people make blatant attempts on his life with guns 4 times and miss every time. the last one 2 car loads of guys with machine guns, all miss. then they come back 5 min later and drive by and spray him and miss again. the attempt in the bar was the dumbest thing i ever saw. this woman bar owner shoots a shot gun at him as soon as he walks in the door, in plain sight of everyone tons of people. all because she's bummed her profits are down thanks to his law enforcement. it's like, don't like someone in 1970 tennessee? just shoot 'em! it's like the movie the purge only you can freely purge someone 24x7 lol. btw, he didn't use the trademark 5 ft wood 2x4 hardly at all. i can see why the movie would have some appeal, but just not executed well. and wow, the commentary on society at that time. quite a difference from movies just 10-15 years earlier.
Slap Shot (1977)
absolutely awful
Just an awful movie. it's very long and drawn out with a poor climax. really one of the stupidest movies i have ever seen. there's no need to get into details as to why, but it's just very vapid, there's not much to it. they must've gone through several cases of fake blood, was so ridiculous. glad i didn't see it when i was a kid and everyone in school was talking about it. sometimes we romanticize the past, but if this was they type of humor people had a very simple sense of humor. paul newman was 51 at the time and playing an active hockey player. his character was all over the map, i was very unimpressed with him. looking at this i'd say he was a very overrated actor.
A Christmas Detour (2015)
pretty cute
we have been inundated with these kinds of movies over the past few years and i will say this was one of the better ones and more memorable for me. i just like the romantic snowed-in thing, and the first half hour had some funny dialogue. as someone else on here said, the casting is ridiculous though. are there no gorgeous 25 year old actresses available? must hallmark always use 38yo women as leading ladies finding love? the actress they used here played the part well, was cute and nice, but come on her time has passed, she had her day, get someone young, thin, and hot! OK it's making me write one more line. here i go, almost there. OK there! i think i completed 10 lines! IMDb what do you have against succinct reviews??
De vrais mensonges (2010)
"Awfulie"
This movie was an awful attempt to relive the beauty that was the movie "Amelie", ain't happening. Avoid this movie if you are an Amelie fan, all it will do is depress you to see our beloved Amelie 10 years older and trying to relive the glory of the past. OK it's making me write more, sorry to bore you with more text than necessary, but here goes. The plot was OK for about 20 min, though it was sad to see Amelie reborn as a tired worn out character who has had probably gone through 100 boyfriends by this point (this time she is named "emilie"). then it dragged and dragged until the writers found a way out of the mess they had created and just ended the story with a denouement and put us all out of our misery :)
The Big Chill (1983)
keeps you watching, but a ridiculous movie.
it's pretty much a dialogue movie, which is OK, but the dialogue is very tightly scripted. every word so carefully thought out, that it's unrealistic. people, even good friends, simply don't talk and interact like that. as for the music, it seems the producers realized there wasn't much beef, so to add some meat to the bone they overlayed popular songs every once in a while to make it seem cool and fill the time. parts almost seemed like a music video.
in summary, i would say it's OK to watch to see some actors that eventually became quite popular, before they were well known. but expect to say to yourself "omg this is ridiculous", every once in a while. also, as others have stated, don't expect much of a story.
The Flight Before Christmas (2015)
What were they thinking?
are you going to tell me that a hundred people worked for a month or so to create this garbage?
good looking successful guy falls in love with unattractive woman and drops his beautiful and sweet girlfriend for her. don't waste more than a few min on DVR, laughable implausibility is the only entertainment value.
