Really people? Shameful campaign of hate...
30 March 2019
Stunning campaign in some IMDB users to attack this film. I don't know how many trolls are here or if they probably have multi accounts to bash this with 1 star constantly...

It's clear that many people who are used to POPCORN movies and has Netflix are just ignorants of cinema, when they see something different, their brains collapse. Maybe they didn't see any author movies in their lifes. They thought Cuaron would made another commercial nonsense popcorn eating thing like Gravity, but NO. He is an author, not a moron who makes films only for money.

He made a masterpiece, ROMA, with real emotions, about childhood and mothers love. If you can't capture those feelings in a different film, then go back to watch mediocre movies where the plot is nothing but the same always. If you enjoy other types of cinema don't come here to show your ignorance.

If you love cinema (all kinds), the realest cinema, with genuine emotions then you WILL AT LEAST ADMIRE THIS FILM. Period.

Mizoguchi's groundbreaking tour de force.
29 March 2019
A towering achievement, a tour de force of cinematic magic. A film that was ahead of it's time just as Jean Renoir and Orson Welles those years... The beautiful very long takes, one after another with elegance, emotions, and not a single close-up take, were something never seen before 1939. One of the greatest and most groundbreaking films ever made.

It's just a shame that this film is not famous, even in the expert cannon. The first decade of Mizoguchi as a filmmaker is overlooked. If you love cinema do yourself a favour and see this film.

Great thriller
20 June 2017
Spain continues to deliver solid thrillers, as for example this last years La Isla Minima was a masterpiece of Spanish cinema.

This film has a dark atmosphere, the actors are great, especially Antonio de la Torre who is one of the best Spanish actors of this decade. The personal relationship of the two detectives is well written. The influence of Fincher's Seven in this film is crystal clear.

Don't miss this new classic of Spanish cinema!

An aesthetic pleasure and big surprise
8 June 2017
I saw the preview for Europe of aMari yesterday in the native town of the director, the most clear sensation you get at first is the beautiful cinematography of the film, almost all the shots are well thought and composed, it's very interesting visually for those who love photography like me. It's clear that the work took a long time and huge effort to compile with such few means, the different places in the woods, waterfalls, animal species and good shots at dawn... Big credit to the director for pulling this off with a very small budget.

It's that kind of a film that you have to go with a open mind, with the opposite mindset when you go to the cinema to watch an average entertainment film, this is more sensory than anything else, to contemplate not rush, the slow pace is necessary for the long takes of nature and to try to get a meaning as a whole.

For me it was really mysterious and breathtaking at one point in a certain scene with fire... That scene is a great mix of sound and images to impact the viewer, feels a bit dreamlike and the editing is great in this scene to make a big impact.

Generally the animals scenes are nicely shot and edited. As for the meaning I think is personal of the director but I can understand a deep naturalistic view on the world and human being also, like as a look back in time to our ancestors, their sacred rituals and view of nature that we have lost in our time, it's impossible to evolve without looking back.

I want to see it again sometime maybe on DVD or so and I hope it will succeed and get the attention it deserves.
