Spartacus (1960)
THE DEFINITION OF CINEMA
I went into this movie knowing absolutely nothing about it. Besides Kirk, Douglas and Stanley, Kubrick and I have to say I was very pleasant and surprised by the end result of this movie. I started watching this movie and fell in love with it almost instantly with a stellar score by the universal studio orchestra, and from then I was glued to this TV screen the entire time. Kirk Douglas does an amazing performance and in my eyes my favorite performance of him so far. And every other scene after the opening did not disappoint. I will say yes, it is a bit long but for the length of the movie it makes up with this stellar cast, the beautiful set designs and the amazing acting that Kirk Douglas and cast do in the movie. I absolutely love everything about this movie and I'm so glad that I knew nothing about it, even the fact that it was set in Roman times and not even knowing who sport because was at the time, but. But I'm aware that it is a bit different from the source material that was written. But I still think that this is my favorite version of the character thus far because of the fact that Kubrick than an amazing job with this film. The emotion that the characters play in this movie is why I got into cinema as it is. This is what acting should be and it's a shame because in a movie like this this is the definition of an actor acting and putting on great performances. And this is something that I wish we could see more of in Hollywood nowadays because frankly I feel like it's not there as much anymore. The beautiful wife of Kirk Douglas does an amazing job at playing her role and the effects are fantastic and you can tell that this was a movie that was genuinely done with heart and character. That is why if I could I would give this movie at 11 out of 10.
2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
Beautiful spectacle with a confusing plot
I'm a huge Stanley Kubrick fan from the first time that I watched The shining till I decided to watch this movie. I went into this movie knowing nothing about it besides it was one of his most acclaimed films. The beginning scene with the primates was a fantastic opening with a truly stellar score and was something that I really enjoyed. After that opening the movie started to bore me with exposition and too much talking for my liking. It also didn't help the movie was quite long with a runtime of 2 and a half hours. I wish I could watch it in one sitting but was not able to cause I was falling asleep multiple times during it cause it had such long dragging scenes. I do admit after finally finishing it after a 3 day span the score, effects and the scope of the work were great but isn't my cup of tea.
Return of the Living Dead III (1993)
Romeo and Juliet?
This movie definitely has heart. Going into it I was expecting the worst as it is now the third movie and a franchise with a great first movie a second not as good but someone okay second film and expecting a different director I was very hesitant at first. But I have to say that it was an interesting premise with a sort of Frankenstein type of resurrection of a guy's who deeply loved his girlfriend and clearly has problems at home wanting to stay at the home he's at due to his dad being part of the military and always having to move around the country. I think the film likes is a proper direction and is just trying to battle too many things at once and if it stuck with one or two themes it would be good but it has all these revolving door full of characters that is trying to juggle in an hour and a half runtime. I did enjoy the aspect of the two main lead being the boyfriend and girlfriend in this movie and enjoyed their interactions quite well but I do have to say that I was not a fan of the main character being the fact that he was able to steal his dad's key card to a top secret military room and was able to reserve his girlfriend so it's two separate interactions without being caught and causing this Mass phenomenon within this base. I kind of find some of his decisions dumb even though yes I know he is a kid but still I just wish that it was written a bit better but overall I enjoyed it for what it was.
The First Great Train Robbery (1978)
"I'd like to make a withdraw from her"
I recently bought the first release of the Kino Lorber Blu-ray of this movie knowing nothing about it besides the cast on the front of the box. I went into it optimistic of the setting and the main actor Sean Connery who I only knew at the time as my James Bond and came out extremely satisfied!!. I loved every minute of the movie from the transfer of the original cut to the acting, direction, writing and everything in-between. Sean Connery as well as Donald Sutherland and the rest of the main and secondary cast perform great with this adaptation of the Michael chriton book that I now want to read to see how it matches to the movie.
I enjoyed the movie do much actually I watched it a second time which I rarely do even for a movie that runs at just shy of 2 hours and enjoyed it even more the second time around as well. So I'm conclusion I would highly recommend this movie to anyone who is looking for a great period piece with astounded acting from everyone involved with the standout characters being the 3 main leads including Sean Connery, Donald Sutherland and Lesley Ann Down.
The Walking Dead (2010)
This show is a rollercoaster of emotions and quality.....
What can I say about this show I started watching it around the time of season 2 and instantly fell in love with the idea. At the time I was 10 and I was too scared to watch it alone so I had my dad watch it with me and we watched the show ever night every episode till about season 9......
The first 6 seasons imo were fantastic and I loved them even with the to put in light terms "troubled production" with things such as AMC, different actors and different show runners.
It also made me start to read the comics and I became a super fan of the show but I slowly started to get drained of the show due to what seemed like another agenda being pushed. My biggest problem with the show is certain decisions they made with characters/ story arcs and overall passing of certain things. But that's not to say I didn't love it with all the gore, kills and great character moments and arc's that came to fruition
Overall I would say that I think very fondly of this show and will definitely revisit it in the near future due to having such a strong connection with the show at a early stage.
Those Who Wish Me Dead (2021)
Couldn't come up with a better title?
Going into this movie the trailer looked watchable and I'm happy to say it is. BUT I can't get over the fact that some things about the plot are not really explained and some stuff just doesn't make sense or is just stupid. Even the plot itself has an interesting premise with police and firefighters working side by side but then the whole other plot doesn't make any sense. Not to mention they decided to have a forest fire that served nothing but kill one of the main antagonists of the film. Ohhhh also Tyler Perry is doing serious stuff besides Madea?? I do however like Jon Bernthal's acting and Angelina Jolie and this does have some things if very little going for it.
The Great Escape (1963)
Way too long!!!!!
So I finally finished the great escape for the second time and I can see that it was The great escape from me finally finishing this long movie about world war ii. I really didn't enjoy this movie and I had some interesting parts but I just had a such a hard time trying to watch it finish the movie with the almost 3 hour run time on it I just recently picked up the 4K release of this movie and I really enjoyed the quality of the picture sound acting and everything else but like I said something was just there that kept on dragging off of me. Going into it I didn't know really many of the actors and I don't remember bits and pieces for my first time watching this and I can see that like I said the performances were great including the performances from some of the main cast including Donald pleasence and Steve McQueen rest in peace. I think that the idea was really strong and I feel like you had it all in there and I would like to go back and watch it another time one day but maybe when I have more of like a free day off of work to watch it instead of watching it and bits and pieces like I had to watch because like I said it felt like a dried on and on for me but I still gave it a good rating cuz of so many great things about this movie.
Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse (2015)
Wanted more and undelivered
It's my second time now watching this movie and I can say that from the last time I watched it I had the same opinion on it. I watched this as a former Scout for about 8 years including Cubs and beavers and I can say wholeheartedly that I both laughed and I was wanting more while not getting more with a lackluster plot about zombies. I'm a big fan of a good zombie movie and I can say that this one here was just all right. When watching this movie I remember thinking to myself that there really wasn't a lot going on for it so it must have had a so much small budget with not great writing in it. I do like the scoutmaster he is funny and it has some interesting moments in it but the other moments that you can tell we're almost forced in. Overall I would say that this movie is fine I mean for the performances from some younger actors that are now big movie stars is interesting but at the same time I feel like this is one of those movies that you want to watch as a kid just so you can see a pair of zombie boobs but maybe that's just me.
Creepshow 2 (1987)
Mehhhh
Not as good as the first one for obvious reasons but I still enjoyed the movie for what it was. Tbh I'm new to this type of animation but that animation was quite literally more terrifying than the movie itselfππ. The first story with the "Indians" and that was not bad a bit slow tbh but the kills were pretty cool. The 2nd was my favourite cause of not knowing what this strange lake oil thing was and all so I throughly enjoyed that. The 3rd skit was the weakest in my opinion even with the Stephen King cameo included. Overall this series was never my cup of tea so I won't be revisiting anytime soon.
Malignant (2021)
Hooollllly mother trucking horror
This movie has had some very dicey reviews online and I went in knowing nothing and was surprised at the performances and the out of its mind plot this thing has going for it. I wasn't familiar with the cast in the movie except the one doctor in the movie who was in Brisco county junior for my Bruce Campbell fans. I definitely wouldn't say it takes it self seriously with some cheesy moments and questionable dialogue. I also haven't watched too much of James wans movies but would definitely watch more of his stuff after this. Overall for a modern day horror movie it's a must see and a rewatch for me.
The Hills Have Eyes Part II (1984)
π΄π΄π΄π΄
This is the most random and boring movie I have seen in a while. I've only been watching for about 40 minutes and I feel like it's been a decade. The story doesn't make sense, the characters suck and I just hate everything about it. Sorry Wes Craven don't like to speak ill of the dead.
The Hills Have Eyes (1977)
π΄π΄π΄
I know I might be in the minority here but I prefer the remake over the original in this case cause I thought this movie was just atarught up boring and weird with the inclusion of these "cavemen" like people. But I would rather watch this over the 2nd movie which is god awful.
Ape (1976)
*monkey noises* this sucks
I'm sorry to anyone who enjoys this movie but this movie just wasn't for me. Too much boring dialogue and makeout sessions, rape acting??, and just a blatant ripoff of King Kong which they even mention in the movie. Only redeeming factor for this movie is the infamous ape middle finger, the music and I guess the final confrontation.
Daredevil (2003)
Fresh for 2022
I'm watching the movie's directors cut and it's not as bad as everyone says it is. Yes the suit sucks, yes the CGI is bad and yes Colin Farrell sucks bit once getting past that I was surprised at how it actually was a fresh take for a superhero movie. After watching countless superhero movies and tv shows including the highly popular Daredevil show I enjoyed the movie more than the show for being a nice short and sweet story.
Hulk (2003)
Lean, mean, way too bright green machine
I hate that he's as green as he is the CGI sucked and his dad is a funking rock like who decided this was a good idea. Also I like some of the story but most of it is mehhhh.
The Adam Project (2022)
2ND FAVOURITE FILM OF 2022
This movie honestly caught me from the start with its great cast lineup. It had a lot of heart and really made me as a viewer have some heart felt moments with some okay action scenes. But I still think it's a great original idea where it counts.
