Pickpocket (1959)
Poor
Apart from pickpocketing scenes, no kind of audiovisual value could be attribuited to this film. Depicting apathy in a boring fashion shouldn't be praised in the costume of "purity" or "deadpan style".
The film, therefore might as well been a book.
La grande bouffe (1973)
What if Buñuel sucked?
Yes! A "satire" of the bourgeois depravation which you don't have to be a genius to detect.
The picture (not even saying film because there is no plot at all, just an idea) is made out of endless juxtaposition scenes of rich people eating, banging and farting.
It's a shame that this is even a feature length film.
Ensayo de un crimen (1955)
Well constructed-not so well executed
Yet another perfectly constructed story by Buñuel, but this time the pace of the film just doesn't feel right. As a viewer i usually have found myself trapped between the unceasing spanish dialogues. The portray of a mentally ill killer should've been more distant from the common reality, if not within the dialogues, then through the usage of scenery and theatrical production, which in this case was monotone and non-corresponding to a thrilling-tempting view
Les enfants terribles (1950)
exemplary, not for everyone
Les enfants terribles constitutes a very important example for the new wave and the vanguard French story telling thanks to this unusual collaboration of authors of different worlds.
However Being a big fan of Melville and his style has obviously rendered quite hard for me to match him with the much-sophisticated French film making which is not for my taste.
Don't watch the film thinking of watching Melville, just keep in mind that it's his work.
Dig it if you love the Vague.
Morte a Venezia (1971)
example of poor adaption
Couldn't even finish it. So dull staging-wise and it seems beyond intention.
The literary monologues in particular have given me anxiety.
Caché (2005)
Perfect combination
Poor and unrealistically constructed characters-check.
Weak plot-check.
Literally no element in regard to cinematography at all-check.
Unnecessary long takes for artsy poserness-check
Unexpected poor brutal scenes-check.
AND FRENCH!
There you go, perfect combination for a terrible film for wannabe cinephiles.
And no, it doesn't got anything to do with who is sending the tapes.
Seriously, go do something else, 2 hours matter.
