An insult to all H. Rider Haggard fans
22 May 2022
Dinosaurs, monsters that never existed, a stuttering coward Sir Henry, a womanizing pool sharp Captain Good and video so dark and blurred it hard to see anything. The best thing about the movie was it's ending, no, not how it ended but that the torturous movie finally ended.

I didn't want to give it a one star but that was the lowest I could go.

Reruns?
14 January 2021
So much stock footage from Stewart Granger's "King Solomon's Mine" minds makes me wonder how much new footage there actually was. I spotted Stuart Granger and others from his movie more than once while watching the film. Overall it is a relatively somewhat decent African adventure film and easy to make fun of because of the overuse of stock footage. I don't know what MGM was thinking when they approved this movie but they should be embarrassed over it.

Independents' Day (2016 Video)
7/10
Asylum Films you gotta love em.
4 June 2019
Bad story line and even worse acting but as with every Asylum Film I've watch I get that satisfaction I always get with a good "B" movie. As I have often said "You can't set out to deliberately make a great "B" flicker, not only are "B" movies bad but they are great bad movies to boot. Yet somehow Asylum Films manages to constantly crank them out. Independents' Day is no exception, the story gets a bit confusing with a President trying to broker a cease fire, an underling with a secret agenda, outlawed militias and would governments turning against the United States. As with most disaster flicks the military is completely ineffective, the outlawed militia is portrayed as a bunch over the top wackos and the President heroically takes on the aliens (spoiler alert) herself. Not a great movie but good enough for me to watch again to see what I may have missed the first time.

Gotza few gooduns

I'm a hardcore "B" movie fan, the cheesier the better. However IMO there's a hugh difference between something that was supposed to have been a well made movie that came out bad and these New Age homages to the B film era. You cannot make a movie under the guise of "I'm going to honor this director or this actor who was in a bad movie" by purposely producing another bad movie. A "B" movie isn't something you can set out to produce. No one in the 50s and 60s was going to a probucer saying I'mgoing to make a bad movie, it just happened to work out that way. I say if you set out to make a bad movie that's just what you'll get a bad movie. I've watched plenty of these New Age "B" movies they were bad real bad, however, this "Naked Monster" is an exception. Now I'm not saying it's a good movie, trust me it isn't but it is a really good job of paying homage to many of the actors and actresses who have appeared in our favorite B movies of the past. Starring Kenneth Toby and many other favorite actors from "B" films such as "the thing from another world" "the war of the worlds" "it came from beneath the sea" and I think just about every other movie Kenneth Toby was in. It uses plenty of footage, dialogue and script material from our past favorites, mixed in with new footage using what was back then the state-of-the-art special effects that produced those cheesy scenes we loved so much. There are a few gratuitous scenes showing nudity but they are short. T The most fun I had was trying to recognize the B movies scenes cut into the movie and guessing who the actors were. Here's a hint, Dr. Carrington played by Dr. Carrington himself. I thought the movie was acceptable and could maybe watch it a second or third time just for the nostalgia but honestly I kept expecting Joel,Tom Servo and Croooow to pop their heads up but they never did.

Really great movie, NOT!
17 July 2018
Oddly enough for an hour and 38 minutes of nothing the movie went by fairly fast as I waited breathlessly for the next thing to not happen. Senseless murders, a great white hunter that can't shoot straight and a safari without rifles, porters, tents or supplies. However, I guess that is all you can expect when you move king Solomon's Mines into the mid 1960s and it looks like you didn't have the slightest idea of how to make a movie. The Allan Quartermain in this movie is a joke and an insult to all lovers of the Allan Quatermain stories. Dialogue is lacking and weak, special effects none and the only interesting thing was about two worth minutes of National Geographic style footage which in itself made no sense either. With no beginning, a middle section of bad acting with a confusing storyline and one of the poorest endings ever, I don't recommend anyone wasting time watching this. I was going to rate this flick a 3/10 but I don't believe it's even that good. Finally, and this might qualify as a spoiler but is it really a "Temple of Skulls" when there's only a 20 or so skulls in the temple to begin with?

Speaking of Pandora's box wow!
29 May 2018
I thought, with a title like this it's got to be a horror story but by two thirds into the movie I had convinced myself how wrong I was. An evil Jinn puts a curse on a beautiful princess and keeps her away from a world of possible Princes that may awake her. Well you just can't get anymore Disney than that can ya? But I'm older these days and had forgotten how scary Disney movies could get. Even with the dead giveaway at the base of operations, just before the ending, l was still rooting for Rose. My only question now is, will they finish it?

6 stars, not scary, to me at least, minus 1 star for the Crypt Keeper's cousin's cameo. For a total of five stars

Pilot?
10 January 2018
I rate this movie a solid five not good, not bad. It looked a lot like a combination of a Superman movie, a smallish bit-o King Arthur and some sort of a The 7 Samurai movie. Even though it's not mentioned in the writeup on this site, the ending led me to believe that was most likely going to be a Pilot for a T.V. series maybe named something like "King Arthur and The New Knights of the Round" which BTW was the name of the movie when I watched it on cable. The script was easy to follow even though I never heard of some of the legends they were throwing out there. Acting was poor, special effects even more poor however I really would watch it again, just as I watch Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan and everything else and that the Japanese make in the "B" science fiction genre. And that's exactly how rate this movie a typical Japanese science-fiction movie. It's even supposedly based in Taiwan the perfect place. I recommend this movie for everybody who loves a goodish B movie and if you listen closely, near the end of the movie, even though the Big Guy's not in this movie I'm pretty sure I heard someone mention Godzilla.

Queen Kong (1976)

Queen Kong and zero spoilers (I think)
5 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
To say Queen Kong is campy is an understatement. Some might say they spared no expense on special effects for the movie but l say they they spent no expense on the special effects. Be prepared for more stock footage, rip offs of popular movies and the worse script and directing since Ed Wood Jr.'s "Plan 9 From Outer Space" Why did I give it 7 stars you might ask? Because I absolutely loved everything Ed Wood Jr. made. In the end it's a pretty good spoof of King Kong when you consider all the indignities thrust upon poor Kong since the big ape's first appearance on the silver screen.
