A New Chapter Begins...
3 June 2021
After a long, long, long wait, the newest installment in the ever growing Saw franchise is finally here. After 2017's Jigsaw revived the series, bringing it back to it's roots, and earning the usual $100 million milestone as usual, there's no question that the story won't continue. Unexpectedly though, a new story was pitched to the studio by none other than famous comedian; Chris Rock. After the story was pitched, everything quickly came into motion.

On an even more unexpected note, the film casted all around acting all star; Samuel L. Jackson. At this point, this makes it seem like it'll bring the franchise to a newer height in mainstream. After a long delay due to *obvious* reasons, the movie is finally here.

The story is rather really easy to follow and piece together. While it doesn't exactly pick up where Jigsaw left off, it does indeed take place in the same universe as that film and the original 7 films that came before. It doesn't reference the prior films events and characters in every scene the film includes, but the story is simple and engaging enough that I'm sure even long time fans of the series would find something to appreciate in it.

Surprisingly, in terms of acting, I believe this entry is where the acting's at it's best. Chris Rock does a stellar job as his character; Ezekiel "Zeke" Banks. He's interesting, entertaining and in a sense, pretty sympathetic. I actually felt his character's struggle when things go from bad to very bad.

Every character was interesting in this one. Max Minghella as William Schenk, Samuel L. Jackson as Zeke's father, Marcus Banks, Marisol Nichols as Capt. Angie Garza. Everyone played their character to the best of their strengths in my opinion.

What I admire most about this movie is it's cinematography and editing. For a horror movie, this one is very pleasing to the eye. It takes Jigsaw's beautiful shot composition and lighting methods and combines it with the classic Saw style of filming where a trap sequence occasionally has a sped up sequence where it showcases how gnarly and twisted the scenario is. That right there is best of both worlds.

In conclusion, Spiral does a better job than Jigsaw when it came to breathing new life into the series. While I do like Jigsaw, I came to grow more interested in Spiral and the story it's trying to tell. I really hope Spiral 2 gets made in the future along with a direct follow-up to Jigsaw. In my opinion, the future of this franchise is looking pretty bright with the amount of directions it can go.

Joker Rising (2013)
8/10
an interesting take on the character's origin.
18 February 2020
For a character such as The Joker, a character who's first appearance was him in his main clownish state, there is a whole lot of free real estate that can be made up for him and where he came from and what made him what he is. This film proves that.

Cyrus (Dylan Hobbs) is part of a gang owned by infamous crime lord; Oswald, and with his upbringing, He doesn't seem to be taking joy with his life and everything around him due to Oswald's demands. He gets the attention and support from a young woman named Harley, who with the support she gives, Cyrus starts to feel more alive and proud. Since then, events start to tear down his being and his new life as The Clown Prince of Crime begins.

Having a low budget for your project forces you to get creative, and it works to it's advantage. each character has quite an interesting take of their original comic counterparts, It has a sort of Breaking Bad feel to it, and with the origin alone, it could've easily been an upbringing for Heath Ledger's Joker.

overall, it's an entertaining experience that succeeds to impress it's viewers by showing what they could do with the right characters with the right material.

Brightburn (2019)

Not your average Superhero Movie
30 May 2019
Superhero movies are pretty simple, right? Main character gets powers, realize he's destined for greatness, fights the bad guy, defeats him, and gets the girl. Simple formula right? but what if... The Hero was the Bad Guy? Written and Produced by Mark and James Gunn, comes a film as to where this question is answered and gives us an introduction to a brand new genre; "Superhero Horror". and I believe they executed the subject quite perfectly.

The story was quite refreshing for what they were going for, the cinematography is downright stunning, the effects and violence was pretty great the acting was pretty stellar.

if you're all up for a change in tone in superhero movies or just wanna see an interesting horror movie, Brightburn is the movie for you.

Logan (2017)
10/10
Best Superhero Movie of 2017
19 February 2019
"Logan" is the best superhero movie of 2017. This marks as the 3rd Wolverine movie and Hugh Jackman's Last film to be portray The Wolverine. This Movie is beyond fantastic.

It's impactful, emotional, immersive, just one big helluva ride. just as the film starts, you can tell you're in for a ride of hurt and grit. instead of being upbeat or exhilarating, we see Logan as an Old, depressed, Alcoholic who's in pain and his mutant powers fail to work as well as they used to. He has some trouble getting his claws out, He's unable to heal as he gets bullet's out of his chest and biceps, he even gets beaten down by some Mexican Thugs before he straight up loses it and rips them all apart in a specific R Rated Fashion (Something that didn't happen in the last 8 X-Men Movies). We just see that this series has taken a huge turn in terms of tone.

In case it couldn't get more depressing we see Charles Xavier rolling around in his wheel chair quoting and shouting commercial lines in a depressing manner. He has these seizures that causes him and everyone in few feets radius from him to freeze and be unable to do anything. he stops these seizures as soon as he gets the treatment he needs. at one point people get harmed from his super powered seizure and he keeps saying he's sorry. I should also note that this is also Sir Patrick Stewart's Last Film to play Professor Xavier.

Dafne Keen play's Laura/X-23 who is a female blood clone of Logan. She's on the run from Cyborg mercenaries who are trying to track her or any other new form of new mutant down. Her Nurse tells Logan to take Laura get her to this place where her and people like Laura can be safe.

I'd say this film is the perfect way to say goodbye to Wolverine while giving the fans what they want and let him slaughter any enemy left and right. The Ending has definitely shoced me and left my mouth hanging wondering what's next. but that was it. No Post Credits. No After Credits. It Just Ends.

This Film is suspensful, emotional, and impactful in many different ways. definitely woryth a watch.

Outlast: Whistleblower (2014 Video Game)
9/10
Great DLC Story to an already Perfect Horror game.
19 February 2019
If you thought Red Barrels' Outlast couldn't get anymore better, they've created a bonus story that put you in the shoes of Waylon Park. a software consultant working at the facility and the man who contacted various journalists (Including Miles Upshur). He got caught and gets thrown into the chaos. You have to find a way to escape the hospital and get back to your family. The tension and atmosphere is better than before. The graphic violence apparently has been turned up to 11 because boy, is it violent than before. In this DLC story, you'll get to explore new areas you haven't been to before, learn more backstory, and get to meet some new and familiar faces.

This bonus story add-on will definitely will not disappoint you if you're a massive horror fan, or if you loved the original story of Outlast.

Outlast (2013 Video Game)

The Game That Redefined the horror genre in gaming.
14 January 2019
Outlast is a game where you are trapped within a mental facility for the criminally insane as all hell breaks loose around you and the only thing you can use for survival is a camcorder with a night vision attachment to navigate the darkness.

Outlast is a completely original concept that works AMAZINGLY. It can really terrify you when you are in the darkest room in your house and have the volume in your headphones turned all the way up. believe me, there are tons of Jumpscares in here. at times I see this as the perfect combination of V/H/S, REC, and Paranormal Activity.

The game is fun, nerve racking, and consistent all the same time. when you actually look deeper in the story, it will all make sense in the end. especially when you actually look deeper at it and listen to quotes that foreshadow the game's finale and aftermath. all in all, I HIGHLY recommend you play this game

Garry's Mod (2004 Video Game)

A MASTERPIECE.
10 January 2019
Garry's Mod is a better Minecraft game than Minecraft. I swear, this game is fun as hell. In a game where you use things that allow you to do things in certain other games and use other things that other players have created in the Steam Workshop, just nails in the fact that the possibilities are very much endless. This game needs a console release therefore it could be played on other consoles such as the PS3/Xbox One/PS4/Xbox 360

P.T. (2014 Video Game)
10/10
A Huge Fright Fest which does not disappoint, and leaves you wanting more
10 January 2019
Silent Hills/P.T. is one of the most scariest games that has ever been played by Human Beings. makes me wish the full project hadn't been cancelled (Konami is to blame for that). The atmosphere and setting alone is creepy, ad gets more and more intense as you continue on. It truly has the layer of fear that always makes you want to pause the game after hearing the slightest noise. The way to the ending is quite clever and unique. from collecting pieces of a picture in cleverly hidden areas to steps that require you using your Playstation Microphone.

It's truly a disappointment that we'll never be able to get another game like this again. this game has so much detail and innovation, not to mention that there was so much hype built right after lots of people (Mostly Youtubers such as CoryXKenshin, Markiplier, Dashiegames, Pewdiepie, Etc.) have played an completed it. The work that Kojima put behind it really shows and it is such a shame that we will never be able to get another game as well thought out, as well detailed, and as Nightmare fuel inducing as this.

One of the best Book to Screen Adaptations yet.
7 January 2019
IT, is a theatrical adaptation of the book by the same name. It is actually pretty great. The sets are top notch, The performances of the Losers Club are good, The Comedy works just right, The Story is simple and easy to follow, Pennywise is The best part of the movie, it did a perfect job of portraying these characters, The whole thing in general is just just as good as the book and the mini series.

The 3rd act of the film also did a good job at leaving plot for Chapter Two, which i can't wait for.

Venom (2018)
8/10
Perfect representation of the character, in an overall not bad movie.
6 December 2018
Venom (2018) is an actually enjoyable movie. Tom Hardy was fantastic, Riz Ahmed and Michelle Williams was good, The source material was handled pretty well, the CGI was pretty well detailed and well used, I liked how both Venom and Riot looked, moved, and fought, The story made sense and didn't need Spider-Man, The MCU, or an R rating to be good. an R rating doesn't automatically equal a good movie, There's a good amount of violence in the movie, I heard a few people gasp at a certain action Venom did after his first transformation.

People seemed to Joke about the fact Venom choosing to stay on Earth for reasons such as being a loser, and looking at the San Francisco skyline. which isn't true. On his planet, he was an outcast, and on Earth, he felt special and powerful, which he didn't feel on his planet.

overall, Venom is not a bad film at all. It told a story that made sense, it gave us a fantastic representation of both Eddie Brock and Venom, and it gives us a good look at the future of these characters.

Jigsaw (I) (2017)
8/10
Perfect return for Saw
14 November 2018
Jigsaw is not exactly the best horror movie ever, but it is perfect for the Saw Franchise and makes it one of the best soft reboots I've seen so far. this film takes the generic Saw Formula and handles it well. The Franchise isn't best horror franchise ever, but it is competent and they seem to know what they're doing. they do have pretty good/great films (Saw, Saw II, Saw III, Saw VI) and some bad ones (Saw IV, Saw 3D) but they do redeem themselves sooner or later, like they did with this film. [I'm kind of in the middle with Saw V]

If there's anything you'd expect from a Saw film (Plot twists, Apprentices, crazy traps, amounts of violence, etc.) this film has it.

Is it the best Saw film ever? No. But there are multiple things to like about it. Tobin Bell, The Cinematography, The Lighting, The Trap Design, How Cinematic it is compared to the previous seven films, how it has that mystery aspect from the first film in 2004, there's pretty much a lot of stuff to like about it.

if I were to rank these films from worst to best it would go...

8. Saw 3D 7. Saw V 6. Saw II 5. Saw IV 4. Saw III 3. Jigsaw 2. Saw VI 1. Saw

I'm going to rate this film 7.8/10

Slender Man (I) (2018)
6/10
is it bad that I liked this?
17 October 2018
Is there something wrong with me? Am I just a tasteless individual out there with bad taste in film? Did I just zone out of my mind and pictured a way better film in my head instead of what was on the screen? I enjoyed the Slender Man movie. It kinda disappoints me that a large majority of people hate this movie while I feel like I'm the only person in the world that likes it. If you don't lije this movie, that is perfectly fine.

Do I see flaws in this movie? Yes. Do I think it's god awful? No. Do I think it's the best film ever? No. But I think it's somewhat decent. If the 16 year old part of me didn't like it, the 12 year old me definitely did. I have been a huge fan of him and his games back in 2013. I thought that a movie based on him felt like a good way to get him into mainstream again. I feel like it did it's job.

The Story felt lack luster, The CG where tendrils explode through the mirror and where Tom's Head was shaking rapidly and making a distorted face felt unfinished, there was many Cliches and missed opportunities here and there.

Slender Man himself looked pretty amazing, seeing him always left me with a smile on my face. The library scene has to be the best scene in the movie, it is executed very perfectly, and The Scene where Slender Man rises on his tentacles made me smile so wide, teeth were showing.

So overall, not the worst film of the year, not an amazing movie, but I wasn't bored while watching it.
