Behind Her Eyes (2021)
Almost too frustating to want to keep watching .... ALMOST
I'm a serial googler for spoilers when I get annoyed by not knowing what's going on. So yeah I did that & I saw a spoiler that I thought was lame so I stopped watching. But then I picked it back up & it was surprisingly good! I didn't know exactly what would happen or how but I knew something would based on my googling habit & it exceeded my expectations.
It's HIGHLY improbable how the actual switch took place with Louise but it was still fun to watch & now that I've gotten through it, I actually want to watch it again with a different mindset.
All in all, I'm giving this a 7 ... I would've given it a 5 midway through.
Old Dads (2023)
It's a 6 for me but only because of Bill Burr
Bill Burr is my all time FAV comedian so I was super excited to see this movie. It wasn't great. It's wasn't bad. It was just sort of forgettable.
The times I actually laughed out loud were all lines from Bill Burr. The acting was really good from all of them, but it just wasn't that funny. What makes Bill so great is that he's so unhinged, so to throw out the sad story line of the wife wanting him out of the house & away from his kid was just unnecessary & a downer.
I really wish his character would've gone after Connor's wife for being such a hateful & awful person but she saw no payback at all so what's the point?
Anyway, I will watch anything with Bill Burr in it & I'm giving this a 6 instead of a 5 just because I enjoy seeing him on screen so much.
The Good Liar (2019)
I wanted to like it
This movie is honestly really not good. Every single thing that happens is so implausible that it lost me once I figured out what was going on, which was early in the movie by the way. I didn't listen to the other reviewers & was determined to like it becuase I like the actors & figured they couldn't possibly make a bad film together but I was wrong.
I'm still sitting here wondering why this movie is rated as high as it is. It deserves a solid 3 across the board but hey, you like what you like. I always love seeing Ian McKellan and Helen Mirren on film but that was about it.
I would pay to never have to watch this again.
Der goldene Handschuh (2019)
I believe I may be scarred for life
No film has ever had the affect that this film had on me. I am so distrubed by it that I didn't know if my rating should be a 1 or a 10. But for something to stick with me this long after seeing it is so rare that I know the film accomplished what it was seeking.
When I skimmed through the reviews before watching it, I saw a lot of people saying it was gross or disgusting. I do perfectly fine with those things & I figured no big deal because I'm not easily shocked & I've always been intrigued by serial killers. However, I wasn't prepared for this film. I knew none of the actors before seeing this film & watched it with subtitles. I can't imagine any US filmmaker or actors creating this type of film. It was gritty & dirty & raw & Margarethe Tiesel's performance completely broke me.
I didn't cry while watching it but I woke up the next morning feeling devastated by it still. The sadness is just so incredibly heavy & I felt useless watching it without being able to do something to stop it from happening.
I don't think I will ever watch it again but I have so much respect for everyone who pulled this film together in the way they did. Briliant.
Superintelligence (2020)
I wanted to like this movie
Melissa McCarthy is probably my favorite comedic actress so I was excited to see this even though the reviews weren't that great. But it was just bad honestly. And then they just have to throw in the whole racial, gender, diversity BS and I just can't. Like just leave it alone already.
Also, they could have picked anyone to be the AI voice but it has to be James Corden? Just yuck. It's all around just a really stupid movie. And not stupid in the funny stupid way. It's just really dumb.
I don't think Melissa is doing herself ANY favors by being in her husband's films because none of them are good at all. I really like him as an actor but apparently not as a writer/director because none of his films with her as the star are any good.
M3GAN (2022)
I could've done something productive instead of watching this
Just bad. Watch the trailer & move on. You've seen it.
The little girl's mom dies & the mom's sister comes to get the girl at the hospital. She's just like yeah I'm here to pick up this girl. No big deal my sister is dead or anything. It's so stupid honestly.
And the acting ... wow. The toy factory boss was just insufferable. The little girl was a brat & the aunt was a self absorbed turd. I watch my pets more carefully than she does a human child. Like why would anyone connect to these characters or care what happens to them?
What REALLY made me mad though was that M3gan killed the DOG! The neighbor was nice actually. Gemma was the one that was rude & nasty. And why didn't you just patch the fence, you jerk? I would've been happier if the dog killed the little girl & the movie ended there.
Animals (2019)
Annoying & difficult to sit through
The actress that played Taylor was so unbelievably irritating that it ruined any chance this movie had with me. If someone else were playing this role, you could maybe see both sides between the 2 main characters but because of how obnoxious she is, I only saw the one side. I would run screaming from someone that annoying! It would give me the absolute shock of my life if that actress was nothing at all like the character. Just overall her presence was cringy & I think the movie would have reeled me in a bit more without her.
A Bird of the Air (2011)
Fine story, Bad acting
The premise was fine I guess but weird that the Diner lady was narrating & seemed like she was going to tell some fanciful tale but never did. The story seems to be that the guy basically got a smidge more sociable by the end of the movie. The male lead was actually a pretty good actor but the lead female was on my nerves from the get & it only got worse from there. She was super annoying, her acting was terrible & her hairstylist needs to be fired immediately. It was crazy distracting & I'm assuming she is nothing at all like her character in real life because she just could not pull it off period & that pretty much killed the entire movie for me & was hard to get through because of it.
