Big Gold Brick (2022)
Worst movie ever
This feels like it is from the mind of a prepubescent boy who feels compelled to memorialize every whacked-out scenario conceived when way too high and confusing it with brilliance. Relatedly, that same pimple-faced boy manages to relay every two-dimensional dream-girl fantasy he ever had since first learning to masturbate. To attribute some of this ill-conceived nonsense to some half-delusional state of the main character (as if this is what happens with severe concussions), was not rendered more believable by poorly directing the actor cast in that role.
I feel for all the actors who took a risk on this irredeemable trash. And I grieve the loss of two hours of my precious and valuable time on Earth that wasted on this film.
Obsessed (2009)
This is NOT just a Black version of Fatal Attraction
Maybe in 2009 when this movie was released it was way too early for the black version of Fatal Attraction. Then it may have been just a copycat film and people still expected the original. But now, in 2020 this rendition rocks. There's enough distance between this movie and the original and enough consciousness rising to actually appreciate the difference when a scorned white woman descends upon a Black family. A Black Woman can take care of her own. And, seriously, who can argue against the performances by Idris Elba and Beyoncé? I like this film better than Fatal Attraction. It's so much less misogynistic and so much more intelligent about issues that failed in the original For, e.g.: Why was the cheating man such an innocent victim? Why was the woman scorned so deserving of punishment? Why was the wife cheated on and her family simply at the mercy of everyone else? This movie answers those questions in a fresh and updated way. Too bad that when it came out it was still in the shadows of Fatal Attraction and still being held to those sexist and way too white and unsatisfying standards. This film stands on its own and expresses entirely distinct themes from FA. It is both an entertaining and a meaningful watch here in 2020.
