Werewolf (1987)
Wish I never rewatched it
11 year old me loved this show in 1988. I just rewatched it in my mid 40s and it was so painful. I couldnt help but think what AMC could have done with this in modern times. Kind of has Werewolf by Night themes with the "hero" wolf. He does get a few innocents, but crap happens. There was potential for a show there but it really missed the mark. I giess that's why it was cancelled after 1 season. But no budget, terrible writing, and below average special effects (even for the 80's) was just too much for the show to overcome. I also deplored the accompanying music, but am giving a pass on the shows failure. As bad as it is to endure, it was typical for the time.
Interview with the Vampire (2022)
Should be called by a different name.
What can I say? This show is a complete abomination. It is so far removed from the novel it should have been named something else. If so I may have considered it more on it's own merits. I'm happy Anne Rice was not alive to see what modern society did to her masterpiece.
The acting was very good. The direction of the serues was good. The gore and violence of the vampire Lestat was far more graphic than the original film or the novel for that matter. I guess that was a neccessity given the short attention span technology has given us. My chief complaint is with the script and the screenwriters compliance to bend the story to modern inclusivity that did not exist at the time. When done in such an obvious manner, it detracts from the story. It doesn't add to it.
Let the Right One In (2022)
So far way better than expected
I was skeptical since a movie is being redone I to a series. That doesn't always work very well. I really wanted to give this a perfect score but just can't after only 3 episodes. The issues I had with the original movie as well as the American version is that I was left with so many questions. Immediately this series is giving the impression those questions may get answered. It has expanded upon the original story and seems to be setting up a nice plot for the viewer to get enthralled with. Add to it violence, gore, and effects that were only teased in the movies. All said this has the hal.arks of an excellent horror series with a likeable cast.
Midnight Mass (2021)
Watching grass grow
Had to quit this show then come back months later to finish. Seriously, who wrote this garbage. It's like these people live in an alternate universe where they never heard of vampires. If you drink blood and catch fire in the sunlight you're a vampire not a freaking angel.
Dexter: New Blood (2021)
Disappointed
I loved the original show. I just finished watching it for the third time with my son for his first. We jumped right into New Blood. From start to finish this was a crap show. The writing and direction were so flawed and the show was riddled with mistakes. Showtime did this on a shoestring budget and it shows.
The Batman (2022)
Snooze Fest
I haven't fixed off this many times in a movie since I was forced to endure little kid films with my boys. Speaking of at 14 years old they didn't like this movie either. This film lacked a soul. There was no substance. The only thing I liked was they did not rehash an origin story.
Great White (2021)
Ughhh
Video game sharks that never get full and can make Jurassic Park dinosaur sounds. Apparently those consise but accurate review was too short and I had to add another unnecessary sentence to waste space.
Succession (2018)
Broken Record
The same story on repeat every episode. A bunch of pretentious entitled a$$holes trying to screw each other over. It's unfathomable that the grammar and dialect if the elite would ever be so simple minded. This show is terrible. Why do I have to write 150 words and waste any further time on this show?
Army of the Dead (2021)
Another Zach Snyder disaster!
The title of my review really says it all. Its supposed to be a zombie movie. Instead its filled with trivial scenes of drama to attempt to showcase some acting. It doesnt work. It drags the movie out and makes it unnecessarily long. A trademark of Snyder. Watching this movie was a chore.
Mulan (2020)
My opinion
It was a solid film from Disney. I just didn't think it lived up to the hype.
Poldark (2015)
Predictable
This is seriously the most predictable show I've ever seen. The acting is good and you either like or hate them as is the intent of the show. But the writing is dreadful. I'm into season 3 and I will keep watching it because I've come this far. As for the best character. By far it's the cranky Aunt.
Body at Brighton Rock (2019)
Should've been better
They just didn't pay attention to the details. Like the line hiker with 200lbs of gear.
The Aeronauts (2019)
Gender Equality BS
Was liking the movie until I Googled the actual history and found out the female lead is fictional and replaced the man who actually made these achievements. Sure women should have equality, but we shouldn't falsely change history to achieve it. I'm just plain disgusted.
V-Wars (2019)
Only minor spoilers. Very bad direction
I'm only on episode 2 and I want to like the show. But as I've gotten older, the devil is in the details. There is a murder scene. Yet the next day the murder weapon is in the house. Everything with blood on it is in the house. The prime suspect is in custody the following day still wearing a bloody shirt. Nevermind the fact the way this is all going down why hasn't the CDC been notified. Knowing Netflix, it will be cancelled. It is too bad. Hire some new writers and directors and this could be salvaged. But so far it is lazy production all around.
The Irishman (2019)
Tired and played out.
This movie just seemed to fade into plethera off mob movies. Just more of the same old story lines, overplayed mannerisms, and unjustified old actors who refuse to accept their time has come and gone. The attempts to make DeNiro and Pesci appear younger bordered on disturbing. The scene where DeNiro beats up a store owner is pitiful. I wasn't convinced he could stomp an aluminum can much less a full grown man. This movie was bad in the same way the Expendables was bad. Men much to old to be pulling off the events taking place in the movie. A group of old actors attempting to cash in on their names one more time for the genre they are known best for. And Scorcese doesn't get a pass on this either. He is just as guilty for this sham of a movie.
Hanna (2019)
You've seen it before
After a few episodes the obvious dawned on me. Besides being a remake of the Hanna movie, this show is exactly the same plot as all the Jason Bourne movies. The only difference is it is drawn out over an entire season and it had a hormonal teenage girl in the Bourne role.
