Oil in the Blood (2019)
A One Of A Kind Documentary On Custom Bike Builders
A really well put together documentary on bike builders and where they see their future within the booming industry.
Lots of interviews with builders from all over the world. Some build on a shoe-string and passion. Others use the latest tech to build show bikes which will likely never see the road.
This documentary will be of interest to those who admire engineering and innovation, even though they only have a passing interest in motorcycles.
Batman Ninja (2018)
DC are the new Suicide Squad.
DC are the new Suicide Squad... Warner Bros have sent them on a mission to die.
Nothing else explains why they would release such a crappy animated film.
The premise of the story is good. But it is completely spoiled by animation which looks like it was cobbled together by idiots more concerned with giving Harley Quinn & Catwoman massive knockers than having animation befitting 2018.
I suffered the first 25 minutes and then switched it off. It truly is awful.
Brawl in Cell Block 99 (2017)
Great cast. Awful film.
This strikes me as the type of film which started with a great idea. Garnered a great cast because of that, and then left everybody wondering what happened.
It is extremely slow. He doesn't even reach prison until 45 minutes into the film.
The fight scenes get more and more comical toward the end. Vaughn moves like Frankenstein on ketamine.
Shot Caller (2017) is vastly superior to this waste of time.
Green Room (2015)
Nothing new, but a good flick
Hadn't heard anything about this so I watched it not knowing what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised.
It reminded me of Judgement Night (1993) - People minding their own business see a murder and are pursued by the murderer(s).
The acting is very good considering the cast is rather young. Stand-out performance is Imogen Poots, by a country mile. Maybe it was just me but I had to listen very hard to Patrick Stewart. I have no problem with his accent as I'm also from the UK, but some of his lines seemed a little slurred.
There is some blood/gore but it's all there for a reason.
You will most likely find yourself thinking that the kids efforts to escape are pathetic (And that you would fare much better in a similar situation). But I think this just speaks to the quality of the film and how you're drawn-in by it.
Persevere through the slow start and you'll probably enjoy it.
Driven (2001)
Wheelie Awful
So I was looking at the poll for IMDb's best car films and I saw this title. I couldn't believe I hadn't seen it before. It has big actors in it, and it's about fast cars. How could it possibly go wrong?? Basically it goes wrong from the first minute and never goes right again (Oval car racing pun intended. Sorry).
The poor acting is made much, much worse by the lousy script. The story is all over the place. But the worst thing is the camera work. The whole film is shot like a CSI Miami montage.
Soft Rock/Dance music accompanies every race scene, along with jumping angles and split screens.
At least now I know why I missed the film when it was released back in 2001. I just have no idea how it achieved a lofty 4+ stars on IMDb.
If you want a proper race film watch Le Mans. Even Herbie Reloaded is better than this pile of poop.
This is the first time I've ever rated a film 1/10.
13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi (2016)
Typical Michael Bay
This could have been a very good film. The story (Whether entirely accurate or not) had lots of potential.
The major flaw in this film was the Direction of Michael Bay. I found that in his Transformer films all of the robots except Optimus Prime and Bumblebee looked identical and I could never make out who I was looking at on screen.
The same happened in this film. All of the lead characters are the same colour, height, weight, dress, accent etc etc. The only one who stood out was Max Martini (From the TV series, The Unit) due to his fair hair.
During the fighting scenes I has no clue as to who was where and doing what.
The director should have used a little artistic license and included a more diverse cast (Hispanic, African American, accented etc).
It was no, Argo, but it was a decent flick. I certainly wouldn't go out of my way to watch it again though.
Triple 9 (2016)
Too many stars. Not enough time.
It's as though the director was trying to combine, Heat (1995) with Colors (1988) but ended up with a film as good as neither.
It begins well with lots of action. Then slows to establish characters, and then desperately tries to speed up again but fails. It just kinda meanders to a stop rather than to an end.
The star studded line-up almost seemed to hold it back. It was as though all the A-listers demanded at least 15 minutes of screen time each, and the end result was lots of scenes which should have ended up on the editing room floor, but didn't.
A story and a cast with tonnes of potential, poorly executed.
Batman: Bad Blood (2016)
Animators running out of ideas
DC animation seems to be going downhill these days. They're trying a retro style of anime and it's just not working. Watching this film is like watching Akira back in the 80's. It just feels tired now.
I'm guessing the writers had 30 minutes worth of good ideas for this film and just tried to fluff out the rest. They tried to hide the poor story behind lots of cleavage and foul language (Not that I have a problem with either of those under normal circumstances).
Given the characters involved, this film should have been fantastic. It's not.
Don't bother.
