Bhakshak (2024)
Excellent
Amazing acting by Bhumi Inspiring movie. Heart wrenching to see things that can happen to inmocent girld and the extent to which humanity can lower itself. Kudos to Nivedita Jha, the real journalist who actually exposed the case. You are a hero and you are being seen. I just wish she was accredited in the movie. The only issue I had with the movie was that they didn't do an actual credit to the hero. Otherwise, a worth it watch.
Politics, mob mexus is as old as time. We need people like Nivedita, the SSP who are strong women and who are willing to fight no matter the cost of standing up for an issue.
Animal (2023)
Wasted my time
Don't waste your time. Hopeless movie with too much toxic masculinity! Slapping between couples is glamorized. Total nonsense. Ranbir Kapoor's character is clearly full of toxicity. The movie is low on substance and clearly, all the protagonist wants is validation and goes on a killing spree just to prove it. Clearly, Ranbir Kapoor is mentally sick and all is justified in the name of saving the father. Utter nonsense. I don't know who they are copying - Godfather or scarface or Kill Bill. "Sadly it's a man's world", Vijay says to his wife in a scene", need not say more about the inherent sexism.
OMG 2 (2023)
100 stars for Pankaj Tripathi
What an entertaining movie on such a thought provoking topic. In such simplicity, important issues have been raised. Pankaj Tripathi as usual aces his character. For a country that has the world's leading resource on sex, has openly displayed images of sex positions and the science and art of sex, its a shame that sex education is still touched on the surface in school. A lot of issues that women face and men too, will be taken care of if children were taught better. To me the sequel outshines the original by million yards. Dare I say, Pankaj proves to be far worthy successor to the excellent Paresh Rawal.
Mission Raniganj: The Great Bharat Rescue (2023)
I wish Jaspinder Singh Gill was alive
An amazing rescue story. We need more movies like these. Whilst the world celebrates the Thai cave rescue, we have one in our backyard, which was never unheard of. Excellent direction, excellent portrayal of human emotions and as always Akshay Kumar shines. It also showed an era of India where profiteering trumped human lives and where petty politics considered human life as nothing. And then there is the power of few humans to turn around a story and save human lives. I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone. To celebrate humanity and to celebrate the spirit of a few good men. Must watch.
Lust Stories 2 (2023)
Nothing like the first one
Went with the expectation that this would be as fascinating as Lust Stories 1 but disappointing. There is a deep dive into voyerism from a women's lens in "the mirror", with some scintilating performances but other than that the series lacks the punch.
Neena Gupta shined initially as the sexually liberated grandmom but got overbearing. Also the story lacked punch overall and could have done better. Kajol was excellent but the story itself was lacklustre and last but not the least the one with Tammana and Vijay reminded me of one of the stories from the amazon series- Feels like ishq.
Overall, disappointing.
Travel Man: 48 Hours in... (2015)
Not for the traveler but for the bucket list tourist
This is the worst travel show I have seen. Richard tries to be comical in the name of disrespecting other cultures and countriesz
Typical American/British behavior warped in insults. And of course, you can do something in 48 hrs when you have access to choppers and what not. Barely touches the enthusiasm of an adventurer or the curiosity of an honest investigator.
I had excitedly opened this thinking this would be akin to Anthony Bourdain's show but Richard disappoints. No doubt he has a funny bone but it is not funny when its directed at someone else's cultures, food and belief.
I wouldn't recommend wasting time.
Modern Love Mumbai (2022)
Amazing
This is one of the most beautiful short stories ensemble I have seen. Talented actors, awesome music, amazing shot encapsulate each story with a heart of its own. I loved it and the boldness in redefining love as not belonging to one genre but to the world at large.
Inventing Anna (2022)
Anna Chlumsky was clumsy and Garner couldn't garner my support!
The weakest link in the series is the overacting of the actresses, Fake accents, unnecessary squirming - I went through the series on fast forward. Dont waste your time and glamorize something thats not worth glamorizing.
Looop Lapeta (2022)
Loved it
Personally, I loved it. The premise that every single decision of your life leads up to different outcomes has always been exhilarating. Even when its a copy of the fast paced German film, it has its own character and style.
Loved Tahir and Tapsee. I do think its the kind of film that will either be 10 or 1, depending on the audience. Kind of art films that expect to carry your brain with you. For me its a 10/10.
Wild Wild Country (2018)
An amazing docu-series
Netflix does it again and brings an amazing docuseries on one of the most revered figures of our times.
A few things that could have been covered and I hope there is a subsequent series on it:
1) Murder of Osho
2) More of his teachings
3) Life in the commune
Else, it was perfect.
Shershaah (2021)
Awesome movie
One of the best war biopic. No melodrama, very realistic. Character building was awesome 👏🏻 Every single person including Siddhartha Malhotra were awesome. Siddhartha Malhotra stole the show.
Bhuj: The Pride of India (2021)
Horrible tribute to a powerful real story
What a horrible direction and acting for a story that deserved better. I wish someone else had directed this powerful story. Couldn't sit through it.
Balcony Buddies (2021)
So sweet
Amol Parashar has a quality that makes any space fun, human and intimate. A beautiful short story that is about relationships in these times.
Kaagaz Ki Kashti (2017)
A beautiful tribute
A beautiful tribute to a singer whose songs has touched our souls in ways unknown. The catharsis his songs bring will stay with his fans all their lifes.
Pushpavalli (2017)
Manipulative to the core
Hated this series only for the extreme manipulation on the central character's part. Only if after season 1, they had changed the character for the better. For all the genuine light hearted scenes, the character draws no empathy and actually ruins people's life to get validation from
this one guy, who is not only an idiot but also not as handsome as he is told he is.
Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl (2020)
Great movie celebrating a strong woman but hopeless acting
Watch it just to pay tribute to an awesome woman and a great father. Jhanvi Kapoor ruined the movie as much as Pankaj Tripathi saved it.
Bard of Blood (2019)
Awesome is an understatement
One of the first Indian spy thriller. Great direction, great acting, good pace - if you love spy movies- u will love this.
Manto (2018)
A classic story of a master storyteller
Manto was far ahead of his times and a literary master, it its befitting that we see his biography on the big cinema. Awesome acting, characterization and a take on how life changed for people after partition. A MUST watch for everyone. A MUST read for everyone - Manto ki kahaniyan.
Zero (2018)
Great movie
I personally loved it. Primarily, because it involves characters that have been normalized and shown to have emotions as everyone. SRK was way too good.
Karwaan (2018)
Irfaan steal the shows
Super hilarious, simple and awesome.
Irfan steals the show. Totally loved it..
Mark Felt: The Man Who Brought Down the White House (2017)
An Important Movie to Watch in Today's Time
The film tells the story of Mark Felt, the deputy chief of FBI who did not buckle under pressure and goes on to expose the biggest scandal of our times.
Liam Neeson is flawless as Mark Felt and the movie exposes the collusion between the law enforcement agencies like FBI, CIA, the attorney general and the govt. It further presses the importance of the fact that how important it is for our judiciary and our law enforcement to remain independent. It also shows the power of journalism. To me this movie is about how the institutions of democracy - the press and the judiciary need to be important to keep the Govt's power in check.
If you don't know or understand the Watergate scandal, do read about it before watching the movie.
