Magic City (2012–2013)
Such a waste of a great premise and great setting!
20 April 2012
This show should be pumped full of action on all levels, but it's ridiculously slow seemingly without any real plot. I'm not a fan of violence in real life but for this TV show to really work, I think some over-the-top violence and shenanigans are needed. I realize it's only 3 episodes in so far, but the show still should've given the audience more of a hook than it has so far. Many articles for the show promised the introduction of drug dealers, drug addicts, corrupt cops, and crime both surrounding the hotel and beyond. I'm hoping this show revs things up and begins to include all of that real soon because I like the premise and the setting a lot.

The Gates (2010)
If you love soap operas then you'll love this.....................
28 July 2010
Seriously, this show is not the trashy, sci-fi, comedy, over-the-top, fantasy type supernatural shows that are usually served up. It's soap opera with a bit of supernatural thrown into the various plots. Pure and simple! And it actually works for those who are fans of soaps. I wonder why this show wasn't pitched as a daytime soap given the various plots and numerous characters. Nevertheless, I like that it doesn't have a lot of blood and gore but has a lot of plot and mystery instead! Great job allowing Nick to find out that Dylan is a vampire. This completely changes the dynamic between them. How exactly will the chief maintain his will to do his job knowing that he's surrounded by a creature who has committed murder? Dylan saved Nick's life but still........ Nick has a job to do! Nick and Dylan will have a tempestuous relationship from here on out for sure.

Dark Blue (2009–2010)
The case-by-the-week format is ALL WRONG!!!!
18 July 2009
This format works for other shows like NYPD Blue, CSI, Law & Order, etc. but I think it really limits a cop show about undercover police officers. Even more so because "Dark Blue" also promises to focus regularly on the characters' personal lives. I don't see how they can do this effectively if they rush through each and every episode. The pilot episode felt so rushed that I felt as if I could hardly keep up with what was happening. The Franzine character, who according to Detective Shaw was "a jack of all trades", could've easily lasted for several more episodes before being wiped out. The writing and the dialog seemed off! I hope the writers realize they can cover a lot more ground with story lines and characters by stretching things out a little.
