Suchwita: SUGA with Jung Kook (2023)
Top tier wholesome comedy
The beautiful bond of jungkook, the baby brother of BTS and yoongi who is the second oldest brother of BTS at its finest. Baby brother JK who can't take compliments so he makes a joke about every one of them.. and yoongi who can't help gushing over jungkooks solo stage opening the World Cup opening ceremony, and offering his wisdom from performing his 31 concert solo tour before yoongi goes to the military .. will tug at your heart. Jungkooks singing at the end with yoongi and him then doing that that.. will forever remain iconic!!! At the core of anything BTS related...is the genuine friendship, love and artistry ... something that never gets old to watch!
Bully (2011)
This really hurts to watch, but it's necessary to see
I just rewatched this for the 2nd time and it hit me again in the same way that it did the first time. I really wish that kids start from young ages I learn about emotions, that they don't need to be his. No boy or girl should ever be made to feel like they cant express how they feel. The sooner we stop forcing these dangerous ideas about how little boys being aggressively violent with each other in "boys being boys" or that girls should be coddled or babied in a different way the sooner we start changing all the insecurities instilled into the next generation and teach them a better way. I think it should be something taught in school, the younger the better. When I was growing up I heard "sticks and stones can break my bones but words can never hurt me," and thinking about that now... it's just a messed up way to teach people to think. There are some very serious bullying going on in this documentary that was actually shocking. Problem is that all the older generation have that same twisted mentality that "their just cruel at this age?" No action is NOT the right action and it's just sick that these people care so little about the lives that their being entrusted with protecting five days a week during their most formidable years. I mean hearing that right after the boy Tyler hung himself... their were kids that wore ropes around their necks the next day and there was NO form of punishment for that. This is ridiculous, and even in this video we hear this bigger boy has been bullying this smaller boy with mental deficits calling him a pussy, telling him he's going to kill him or that he should go kill himself and actually hitting him and the principal or whatever she's supposed to be forced the victim to shake the hand of the bully and accept the apology that she was forcing him to make. She forced the kid to apologize no he kept ignoring her and walking away until finally he stopped bad then forced the victim to accept a forced apology and everything is just okay even though he's been picking on him for months. The victim didn't want to accept a forced apology and she let the bully go and then stood there reprimanding the victim because he wasn't accepting the apology. She told him "if you don't accept his apology then you're JUST AS BAD AS HE IS?!?!!??" Read serious told this kid who is getting victimized mentally and physically that not taking a forced apology is as bad as the mental and physical abuse he's enduring. I don't think I've ever been as fired up at some lady I don't know. Like how much more mentally damaging is what she just did? I'm disgusted . I know this isn't necessarily just a review I just truly wish with everything in me that we can take steps forward for the next generations and help them feel safe and like they matter enough to help. This is very hard to watch, but it's extremely powerful and such important messages throughout.
Big Sky (2020)
What's with all the exaggerated reviews?
Finished the first episode and I really didn't find it as detestable as many of the reviewers have lol sure maybe it's not "realistic" or "never would happen in real life," but since when has that defined shows? If things weren't dramatized then tv/movies would be pretty boring. People keep complaining saying it's like a "soap opera" because of the love triangle? I'm fairly certain in any drama type show on theres at least one love triangle at some point so I'm not sure why this is being called out like something to complain about. Maybe people have high expectations because of the cast but I had no expectations so watching with an unbiased perspective possibly? I'm not sure but it's pretty well paced with suspense and a twist that I def wasn't expecting and interested in how that's all gonna play out. All in all the acting is pretty decent, shows easy to follow but still has ways to surprise you and the scenery is breathtaking, good cinematography and I think of any of that interests you to give it a shot. Try having no spectations...watch it for what it is on its own.
Ps. I'm wondering if the high expectations comes from the fact that this show is connected to "big little lies" which was a surprise for a lot of people and was so much more than people expected. Now following that show and maybe expecting the same level of everything is why ppl are so disappointed and harsh about this show. Just random afterthought .
Criminal: UK (2019)
Pleasantly surprised
I honestly didn't even mean to start watching this and I've never seen any of the others like I think there's "criminal Spain" and one in Germany? Can't remember but anyways before I talk about it I just wanted to comment on something someone else said. For some reason on Netflix after season 1 ends, which by the way is only 3 episodes :/, but they said after those three episodes it goes straight into "criminal Spain" automatically. Because I just started it I looked to see how many seasons and saw a season 2 in the UK one so when mine did the same thing right after season 1.. I was able to go back and about to start the 2nd season. The other viewer seemed to think it was just 1 season so I thought I'd mention it in case anybody else gets directed to the others which I heard are great too... but I def wanted to see a little more with this cast before moving on to another .
You would think a show basically existing in like 3 different scene setups would get slow or feel like it was dragging on... but this is just not the case with this. It's almost completely about the case and less of personal lives of the main cast. Of course there are slight storylines with them but it's mostly focused on the case and for the most part they don't have characters with verbal diarrhea who are always talking in excessive detail (and yes I see the irony in me pointing this out with my excessive review) and Seeing the mental gymnastics they go in to with interrogation is incredible. It's so much more than "good cop, bad cop," and I like how they don't exactly show their cards to the audience at the beginning. We basically don't know what it's really about until interrogation begins. I just genuinely enjoyed it and got so sucked in and never knew what was true for the most part. The acting I thought was superb!!! Honestly if you're into any kinda crime solving shows I think you'll love it!
Gave it a 9 just because it's so short 😢 otherwise it would have been a 10 for me!
Also I have kinda seen a pattern with tv series that come from other countries especially the Uk, it's often that the seasons are shorter and it takes an insanely long time between seasons of the show... like Luther, or the show happy valley or even the show the fall... it's like the shows are better imo because they take longer to shoot , edit and release then they do in the US. The shortened seasons I think make the episodes you get just so much better because they're not trying to stretch these storylines for 15-20 episodes per season which again is very common in the US. I could be wrong but that's just how it seems anyway. Pumped to start season 2!
Allure (2017)
Powerful portrayal of mental health and the domino effect of manipulation and codependency
Wasn't sure what to expect... but both main actresses Evan Rachel Wood and Julia Sarah stone were incredible. The first scene made me think "I'm sorry... what the hell is happening?" But was intrigued as to how it would all play out and there are quite a few layers of manipulation of different characters and the effect on their behavior it can trigger if never dealt with. I saw someone say "too many impossible things happening," and I can say that during the whole movie I saw interactions that were immediately familiar to me through my own life in a codependent relationship and many of my friends in manipulative relationships especially with the extremely uneven dynamic such as these characters. Honestly Evan Rachel woods character is a stereotypical storyline of an adult who grew up never dealing with the abuse inflicted on them, especially that of a parent/family member where you can't always just escape your abuser... and then they go over board "taking care" of you almost like a penance they do out of guilt which a lot of the time will stunt the growth of maturity of the victim. I mean I think it was such a textbook storyline that I'm surprised some think it's fantastical.... but maybe they don't know as much about these types of situations in real life to recognize them. It's a rollercoaster for your emotions for sure. I was extremely uncomfortable with the intimate scenes because of the ages... but luckily the actress playing the teenage girl was much older than she looks... I kept thinking "please make it stop," but I think that's what makes those scenes so powerful... they were used to show the complete difference in experience and understanding of intimacy. I also read a review who complained something like "if you make a steamy preview then you should show it..... they always stop it right away," and if you're watching this to see some erotic lesbian scenes with a grown woman and a teenager then like this commenter you are going to be completely disappointed and should search that up on Pot hub. There's definitely a lot going on... and again I don't find a lot of it that far fetched like some who didn't understand these things... but again I'm very interested in sociology, mental health and am a survivor of sexual assault as well as physical abuse which I'm glad not everybody can say.... but I think they did a great job with the characters and the way it played out... except with Evans father in the movie... felt like that one was left with an ellipses. All in all the movie is driven by the emotions of the characters... not as many huge crazy events with a lot of background characters... but thought they did a pretty good job of it!
