I Care a Lot (2020)
Like they changed writers halfway through
Movie starts off plausibly enough. Rosamunde Pike and her partner prey on unsuspecting elderly victims and take them for everything they're worth, until one of the marks turns out to be a mob bosses' mom.
The mob boss has his own legal encumbrances, but offers to pay off Pike and leave his mom alone.
At that point instead of a clever thriller blended with commentary on the plight of America's senior citizens, the writers attempt to turn Pike into some sort of righteous antihero, and also transform her from white collar shyster into spec ops badass, and have her make one of the most implausible escapes in cinematic history. Physiological responses to alcohol aren't contingent on whether or not the alcohol was voluntarily ingested. And escaping from a submerged car in the dark would be a challenge for a sober person.
What makes the movie's attempt to lionize Pikes character pass from just horrible to utterly morally repugnant is that it is losely inspired by a true story, where a crooked lawyer was pulling scams like this on elderly people and was killed by a victim's relative.
Not worth the watching. Use the time to send a card to your grandma instead.
Greyhound (2020)
Great War Movie
Tom Hanks is perfectly understated as the Captain of the USS Greyhound, struggling valiantly to shepherd his convoy across the gap in air cover. Viewers are quickly able to identify with him and his crew. The action starts pretty quickly and never really lets up. The film is technically superb, and serves to highlight the valor of the forgotten heroes in World War Two's most important theater.
Annie: A Royal Adventure! (1995)
One of the worst movies ever
Bad script, terrible production value, a ridiculously cheesy ending, and one token singing of Tomorrow that doesn't really even fit the moment. Save your money.
