Come pecore in mezzo ai lupi (2023)
"Genocidal Serbs" in a movie
Another typical stereotyping of Serbs as some ruthless criminal thugs in a movie with below par acting, shallow characterisation and a boring plot.
By the way, the casting should do a much better job. Of the three "Serbs" we meet in the movies, two had Montenegrin accents and one was speaking Croatian.
So why not make them two Montenegrin criminals and one Croatian criminal, if you can't find Serbs willing to portray your thugs.
European cinema has truly hit rock bottom if this kind of trash is being selected for film festivals.
What is more, it's been ages since I saw an Italian movie dealing with its own criminal product - the n'drangheta.
Invasion: Something's Changed (2023)
What about fire?
There is one considerably significant inconsistency when it comes to the entire series, and which is most visible here.
Namely, at the beginning of this episode, there is mayhem in Osaka, with people running for their life from the aliens. Tumbling, stomping over each other. Cars and building are wrecked all around.
There are thousands upon thousands of people and, say, hundreds of aliens coming after them and slaughtering left, right, and centre.
However, in comes Mitsuki and starts lighting the aliens up and killing them with - fire. Molotov cocktails, cars and buses drenched in gasoline all explode into flames and take scores of aliens out of the chase.
Now, a sensible person would ask:
1. Why aren't all those people, outnumbering the aliens 10 or 100 to 1, armed with molotov cocktails and throwing them at the threat?
2. Why isn't the army fighting with flame throwers and heat bombs instead of guns?
3. Why aren't planes throwing napalm on the mothership that landed on Earth?
This simple inconsistency renders the whole series a circus.
Hidden Strike (2023)
Evacuation
If the civilians were safe within the grounds of the refinery, why couldn't they be evacuated via the same route the strike force came in by helicopters.
There were 498 civilians within the compound. The helicopters could take around 20 people at a time. That's 25 runs with the helicopter. 5, if 5 helicopters evacuated the civilians in one cycle.
It's strange how script writers and reviewers tend to miss these glaring inconsistencies.
I'm writing this at the very beginning of the movie, so the rating might improve after I watched it. However, this is such an obvious logical goof, that I don't see how they'll get me past 3 stars.
24: 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. (2002)
That was not close to Serbian
Ted Cofell's Serbian has nothing to do with the language, The pronunciation is horrible. He got all the grammar wrong as well. When you are portraying. Now, if you are going to present all them Serbians, Russians, Iranians, Afghanis, North Koreans, Chinese and whoever else as bogeymen threatening your national security and precious freedom, at least get actors who will speak those languages properly. Firstly, it's disrespectful towards these peoples and nations. Secondly, it makes the whole story less palpable and believable. There is nothing more important in a dramatic piece than the proper use of language.
Manifest (2018)
Solid Premise, horrible acting, screenplay, dialogues and directing
The basic concept of the series and the initial plot are quite good. Would have made a solid TV movie, with a proper cast and direction.
However, what we have is 3 (4?) seasons of watered down streaming drivel. The quality of acting is below standards. I've seen better acting at school plays.
The dialogues are a thing of their own. The shallowness is outright disrespectful towards the viewer. I'd simply be ashamed having to take part in this as an actor looking for a decent career.
Treadstone (2019)
A horrible mess of a series
Treadstone is a poorly directed excuse for a spy series, defiling the status of what is otherwise one of the best spy/action cinematic productions in film.
The cast is poor or mediocre at best.
Please, bring back Matt Damon for number 6 and put a lock and key on Jason Bourne.
If Robert Ludlum was alive today, he'd be suing the whole bunch.
La Mante (2017)
A glaring error in episode 1
The series looked promising up towards the end of episode 1, when they two cops start chasing the suspect after he is alerted by his mother.
He rushes off on a scooter, and the cops do not start chasing him in their own faster and more powerful vehicle that was 10 feet away. Rather the cop calmly turns towards the partner and says they need to start a city wide search. This is the moment I stopped watching.
Mlad i zdrav kao ruza (1971)
A solid movie, but nothing authentic about it
After watching A bout de soufflé (Godart), one will notice that Young and Healthy like a Rose is another rip-off of the French Nouvelle Vague by Yugoslav directors.
At the time this made perfect sense, with all the censorship and control over culture.
But to call this move an authentic piece of work ahead of its time would be a mistake.
The movie rips-off the original after 11 years.
Having said this, in local context the movie has been very important in paving the way for a Yugoslav / Serbian new wave in film.
