Absurdly weird but fascinatingly experimental
25 May 2024
Absurdly weird but fascinatingly experimental. And definitely funny. Sorry I missed any messages in the film because I was too fascinated by the laughably impossible science fiction in this film and the aesthetics of the world this film takes place in. I am just dumbfounded by all the weird visuals, direction and the font. Was it trying to say something about men, women and society? Totally missed it. Since women with literally newborn baby brains don't exist, it's best if I try not to think too hard about Bella's actions and men's behavior towards her. I will say this though. If Duncan Wedderburn does not know that Bella Baxter has a literal newborn's brain, his reactions does not make him that bad. Who ring in the guise of women empowerment and sekzual liberation and independence and experiencing self should never be glorified. Duck that. A baby brain doing it to experience pleasure is a whole different subject. There are many other life experiences other than seks. I don't even know what to make of men who are either taking advantage of her or who love her because of her naivety. I don't understand why would a newborn brain with rapidly gained experience will cry reacting to poverty. The only truly evil man was the husband of Victoria and he got what he deserved lmao. Ok what the duck was that bubble coming out of Godwin's mouth? Oh yeah, Godwin's father was another truly evil man. Come to think of it, why did Godwin have to do that baby like that? Why did Max love her even after knowing she has a literal baby brain? I am glad I watched it because it is something very different and increasingly fascinating to think about when it comes to absurd science fiction. If brain transplant, which isn't medically possible right now, in science fiction genre fascinates you too, I recommend checking out an anime called Heavenly Delusion.

Quite entertaining with cool and stylistic animation
27 April 2024
It is pretty entertaining and has some pretty cool and stylistic animation and fight scenes. I don't get why Po has to become the spiritual leader and find a successor to become the next Dragon Warrior. Umm, he is not even that old. He can spend his younger days as the Dragon Warrior fighting enemies of peace. It's like Peter Parker immediately retiring after getting his powers to find a successor and becomes his mentor. It makes no sense. Why should Po become a spiritual leader in his youth? They show a bunch of new villains that Po defeated or sent to the Spirit Realm. So where are their movies? Anyway, this film expands the Kung Fu world with the addition of Juniper City and its inhabitants unaware of The Dragon Warrior or any of Po's adventures in the trilogy. Got some Zootopia/The Bad Guys vibes. If Oogway's stick can steal kung fu from previous villains, why not do that temporarily to defeat a new villain and give the stolen kung fu back to the Spirit Realm lol. The Chameleon is a really good villain. The absence of The Furious Five did not bother me. Zhen is a nice character but why choose her as the next Dragon Warrior lol.

Great film but too graphic in violence against women
27 April 2024
Great film. I can't really single out Soori because even though he is brilliant as Kumaresan, every single actor in Vetrimaaran films understands the assignment. As others have pointed out, even I noticed scenes suddenly moving to the next scene as soon as a dialogue is spoken. Either they are all editing errors or they were all intentionally cut to the next scene to fit a fixed runtime. I don't completely understand the politics or objectives of People's Army. Foreign mining company or domestic mining company, how tf does it matter? Ofcourse resources will be used to build roads, hospitals or whatever. I think it is obvious that they did not cause the train accident, whose aftermath was masterfully shot in one-take btw, but are the policemen really this evil? This level of brutality, torture and violence against innocent people including women by the police crosses all limits. I hope the next part shows CBI investigations into their crimes against humanity. If People's Army is against the police for torturing women, then why is Perumal nicely hiding from police while the women are being tortured? This film needed a righteous character like Kumaresan who just can't catch a break. It's a heavy subject matter to watch. I hope the next part expands on Perumal's motivations, explains the train accident and punishes every pos cop.

Excellent, well-written drama revolving around a toxic relationship
27 April 2024
"Will you ask your mother to give your father one last chance?" Excellent, well-written drama revolving around a toxic relationship with great performances by the cast and good music. The guy is so toxic and such guys do exist. But the film does not glorify his toxicity and gives us an idea into what led this guy to be so toxic. He doesn't see the error of his behavior even after being called out on it as well as after discussing it with one of her friends and being laughed at. He appears completely different in his memories of their 6 year relationship. His insecurity and over-possessive controlling toxic behavior was giving me a second hand embarrassment. The girl was right about him and his cheap mentality. He himself destroyed the love they had. What an idiot. I loved the ending. These 8 stars are for the rest of the film that follows the line in quotes above.

Hoping to enjoy it but it ended up being a little disappointing
27 April 2024
I was hoping to enjoy it but it ended up being a little disappointing. It has been correctly compared to The Lighthouse. While the latter references Greek mythology, the former references Hindu mythology. I guess Yakshi is equivalent to mermaid in The Lighthouse. I was not bored, per say, as I was genuinely interested in the proceedings but by the time it ended, it wasn't satisfying for me as it was when Tumbbad did. I felt the same as when I watched The Lighthouse. Nothing. Tumbbad, for me, is certainly better than both this as well as Kantara.

Many things are just there for the sake of it. Like Yakshi, the rotating room from Inception, walls closing and appearing on their own. I don't get it. Just saying Chathan creates a different realm around it does not make it one. I appreciate the masterful filmmaking, storytelling, the performances, cinematography, background score, and production design but there's no payoff in the end like Tumbbad. The cook suddenly switches character at the last minute and instead of escaping, he wants power by controlling the Chathan. First of all, why would a Hindu Goddess gift a slave Chathan to fulfill her devotees' wishes? This is not a Greek myth. Is the ending supposed to be like Ex Machina? Chathan is free to live among humans? It seems Chathan not only mimics the host physically but also mentally which explains all the conversation it makes throughout the film. It's hiding under the stairs instead of attacking which makes me wonder if it killed the others while they were asleep or unconscious. There are supernatural elements like the dice scene, not able to leave the mansion, making it rain at will, memory loss, losing sanity after looking inside a Chathan's glowing mouth which keep you intrigued. Watch it because it's something different from conventional horror and well-made at that.

Well-written black comedy with plenty of fun and action BUT
27 April 2024
Well-written black comedy with plenty of fun and action. Why do I feel like Nelson's movies are overly convoluted with a LOT going on. As in, there are always a lot of twists and turns and sometimes its difficult to keep track of everything. It's pretty entertaining with good humor but it requires some suspension of disbelief. I don't understand how does slapping your hand many times makes it numb to amputation. How? How does that even happen? Lmao. Good work by Anirudh and Yogi Babu as always. Vinay Rai is in this. I have come to realize that Vinay Rai's movies are always good. Raghu and Rajiv play villainous twins again after Tees Maar Khan. Sivakarthikeyan gets a nice, poker-faced character to play and he plays the part well. The character is eccentric enough to warrant a franchise or a sequel. Nelson should go for Doctor 2 instead of Jailer 2.

Fantastic first half but messy second half brought it down
27 April 2024
More like 6.5. Enjoyed the first half, but the messy second half brought it down. The whole thing felt like an assembly of cool build up sequences that amounts to nothing. Still watchable, thanks to Anirudh, his soundtrack single-handedly defined & elevated the entire movie. Loved the colors, cinematography and Nelson's signature black comedy but the second half dragged a lot, got repetitive, boring and didn't seem to end. It ended up being a chore to sit through but Anirudh's Hukum is a life saver of this movie. Nelson's films seem to have convoluted plots that contain a lot of twists and turns. It's gory violence and the action is entertaining and well done. It's got a good plot. First half is excellent and the superstar cameos must be a treat for the fans but not for those who are unfamiliar with them. Sunil's track was not that funny and unnecessarily stretches the runtime. Kaavaalaa is a bad song. Funny how Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi actors are given mass treatment but Telugu actor plays a clown. This is a complete mass cinema and ofcourse Rajinikanth is the star of this film.

Siddharth Anand returns with another great action flick after War and Pathaan
11 April 2024
Siddharth Anand, take a bow! What a supreme effort in executing a new action genre. It's a great film and the first of its kind in Indian cinema. Terrific attention to detail and the IAS and aerial action is shot spectacularly. How cool is that! This is Gadar for the classes.

Loved the interval which comes after a shocking scene with the future of those characters uncertain. Hrithik, Deepika and Anil Kapoor are great but surprisingly, the film also gives a lot of focus on the supporting characters and avoids making Patty do everything. It is a team effort. The film was developed in collaboraton with IAS which is awesome and since it is a fictional film, I loved the use of jets to their maximum potential. It feels weird to see Ashutosh Rana and Hrithik Roshan together and not playing Colonel Luthra and agent Kabir haha. All the aerial training scenes and combat with Pak jets is thrilling and must be experienced on the biggest screen near you.

All the Squadron Leaders of team Air Dragons under Group captain Rakesh Jai Singh, namely, Shamsher Pathaania, Minnal Rathore, Sartaj, Basheer Khan, Sukhi get their own moments to shine although I would have preferred to not stereotype Sukhi as goofy. The double agent Zarina Begum reveal got me. I was not expecting that lol. Patty being haunted by his failure to protect his fiance during a previous mission adds some depth to his character and he gets a minor redemption when he successfully helps a newbie land her jet. Apart from the aerial action, Patty joining the mission to rescue Sartaj after Pak government sent Basheer's brut.alized body back until the climax is very engaging and filled with well-executed action.

Coming to the M antagonist Azhar Akhtar, I would have preferred if we got a flashback to explain his red eye. The actor was good enough and I fully bought his villainy, his hat-red for India, Indians or kaaphirs until he gets absolutely destroyed by Patty. That climax fight looked completely one-sided. A Pak tero-rist who hates India and gets trig-ered by the words Jai Hind even if uttered by an Indian M. The film does not pull its punches in identifying who the villains are. No soft corners for Pak. Veer Puraskar is not just for martyrs but also for the brave.

Must watch Korean crime drama!
10 April 2024
Lee Tang is only doing God's work. He did nothing wrong. What a masterpiece. One of the best shows I have watched recently. I was hooked from start to finish. Literally all the characters are compelling, especially Detective Nam-Gam, Song Chon and Roh Bin. Some of them will make your blood boil but they get what they deserve. You may disagree with me but sorry, they absolutely deserved to die. Go Lee Tang! I loved the writing, twists, acting, cinematography, direction and the transitions are so cool. Loved the entire thing so much. Poor Roh Bin. Sorry, I don't want to spoil too much but it's a must watch Korean crime drama!

James Wan should keep making these Aquaman movies
10 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This film is awesome. It's got everything. James Wan should keep making these Aquaman movies because he is great at it. They are so much epic and fun. Enjoyed all of it. The story of the Lost Kingdom and the mythology was really good and I mostly enjoyed the amazing visuals and the creature action. They looked really cool. Using the whales to counter the sonic canon was pretty cool.

As I said, I enjoyed the film so I have got no issue with the story or the writing. Enjoyed the action and humor. Jason Momoa is having fun and his interactions with Orm are funny. Aquaman was really like "GET AWAY FROM MY WIFE" and "GET AWAY FROM MY SON". Black Manta is a menace. I guess Black Manta is the only recurring villain to get a pay off after the first film. DCEU ended with a bang, not a whimper. I can see people not liking the climate change and global warming aspect due to it being done to death but I didn't mind it and loved how it tied with the history of the Lost Kingdom. James Wan does not compromise on the visuals, action and the VFX. He showed some Indians reacting to Aquaman's message of unity for the planet's health lol. I'd say it's a pretty good superhero film with a good message.

I wish we got the entire Justice League in the end at the United Nations and along with Atlantis, it was the first acknowledgement of the team to the world. Instead we get Orm eating a cockroach burger which was hilarious.

One of the most immersive theatrical experiences ever
10 April 2024
Everything you've read about Dune: Part 2 is true. Certainly one of the most immersive theatrical experiences. It's visually rich, technically brilliant, well-written, passionately well-made and will obviously go down in history as one of the best sci-fi/fantasy epics with great performances and awesome world-building. It's a visual feast for sci-fi enthusiasts like me. I don't know how closely it adapts the novel but how can anyone call Paul a hero for his "Jihad" being responsible for deaths of billions across the universe and eradication of different religions including Fremen's just to get his revenge? While he was well-intentioned in the beginning, his transformation post drinking worm poison was surprising but that's what power and religious fana-ticism does to people. Apparently that's what Jihadis have done throughout history since the inception of the desert cu-lt. Pretty smart that Dune replaces real-world men-tal il-lness, delusions of grandeur and hal-lucina-tions of a certain prophet with worm poison hahah. Poor Stilgar. I want to see what Chani does next and more details and history of the sisterhood Bene Gesserit, what exactly is the plan of Paul's mother as well as the mysterious role of Paul's sister. Nothing can convince me women in burkhas or nikaabs can have that much power lol.

Incredible stuff! Great attempt at sci-fi action genre
10 April 2024
Are you seriously kidding me?? This was an Indian film? Seriously? Incredible stuff! Nice execution of these cool sci-fi ideas and the plot. Super action, great action choreography, excellent camera work, good BGM, VFX, John's performance and gripping, fast-paced plot makes it entertaining. Loved it. It's great attempt and a stepping stone for sci-fi action genre in Bollywood. John Abraham is killing it. He deserves way more success and recognition and this film deserved to be a blockbuster. I am obviously waiting for Attack Part 2. I am glad he got so much love for playing Jim the way he did.

Good action thriller but could have been better
10 April 2024
Not sure what people are thinking calling this desi John Wick and criticizing it for not being a good one. It is neither desi John Wick nor does it every try to be. John Wick has limitless plot armor and is a superhero level character. He would have whooped Sumair's as.s and everyone in that hotel single handedly. Anyway, I enjoyed the film and the plot kept me interested. I know it's a remake but I have not watched the original. It's a good action thriller. However, obviously it's not anything great and surprisingly, despite Shahid being a great actor, his performance especially some dialogue delivery, expressions and interrogation scenes with the Nepali guy can be unintentionally funny. Shahid obviously has potential to be a great action star but I do believe Sidharth Malhotra would have been better here. Also, that kid was so annoying. I wanted to slap him so bad. What an irritating, over-smart brat. "Hot chocolate with lactose-free milk" certainly evokes laughter whenever it is brought up especially when he tells it to Sikandar. Ronit Roy's expressions are hilarious lol. The Baadshah song is so bad. Why would anyone use that as a background music for fight scenes? Nice to see Rajeev Khandelwal. Rest of the cast was good. Oh this film also does Modi's infamous "go corona go" dance. I am not sure if it was sincere or sarcasm lol.

Nice sci-fi romcom
10 April 2024
Nice sci-fi romcom. Very funny film, the romance works, they have good chemistry and the ending where Sifra is malfunctioning was really interesting. The film belongs to Kriti Sanon. She is not only beautiful but also a good actor. Shahid was good enough and had nothing new to do. I like how nobody questions that these exceptionally attractive female robots who look and talk like real people and have built-in vaginas indistinguishable from the real thing for a man can and will be misused as sex toys (as hinted by Aryan's brother) by anyone who can afford them. Wait, this is not Westworld or Ex Machina haha.

Tillu Square (2024)

Hilarious sequel and entertaining crime comedy franchise. Tillanna rocks!
10 April 2024
Wow, this is a proper sequel to DJ Tillu. So many callbacks, a recap in the beginning and a continuation of the story in Part 1. A laugh riot from start to finish. I am not Telugu myself so unfortunately, I missed a few jokes as I couldn't read the subtitles in time but trust me, everyone was laughing out loud so much I thought they are going to fall off their recliner seats. XD The scope of the story is bigger this time around as it involves Indian agents trying to nab an international criminal but even as it threatens to turn into an action spy thriller, Tillanna ensures that we don't forget that this is his movie after all. The Radhika cameo was awesome and it pulled out quite a few whistles from the crowd. They made her marry someone else so we can expect another hottie in Part 3. After Tripti Damri, it's Anupama Parameswaran's turn to become the national crush. I mean, wow.

It's a well made crime comedy flick, one of the better sequels and Siddu Jonnalagadda is a star now as he is able to draw in people on the strength of his character Tillu which is sure to become one of the most memorable characters in Telugu cinema. He truly brings Tillu to life with his performance. Imagine thinking ex-RAW Jim in Pathaan being a terrorist-for-hire was anti-national while defending Bond movies or MI movies as if August Walker was not a CIA agent or Tollywood where Indian agents/characters are also criminals, traitors or terorists like in this film or in Goodachari.

Yodha (2024)

Yodha is what Tiger 3 should have been
10 April 2024
The YRF, Tiger series and Salman brand/star power would have easily made it a blockbuster. Sadly, Yodha is not getting its due at the box office. However, this film truly belongs to Sidharth Malhotra who is perfect fit for these roles. The directors have done a fantastic job. There are a lot of individual elements that come together beautifully to give you a thrilling experience. The aerial action is superb, seems realistic and ably aided by VFX. I was not expecting to see characters fighting inside a rotating plane while the plane turns upside down. At times, you might think you are watching a Hollywood movie. I knew it'd be good by its trailer but wasn't expecting it to be this good. Unpredictable twists and turns, good writing, terrific action, gripping screenplay, great H2H fights, shocking and surprising moments that are suitably brought to life by clever writing choices. It's really great and I'd say it surpassed Fighter as the better Bollywood action thriller of 2024. The plane hijack elements are done well and the plot reveals are truly unexpected which makes for a very memorable experience. Disha Patani's acting is not 100% believable but it's good while Rashi Khanna plays her part well. The antagonists are well done and seem like a credible threat. The ending is awesome and completely satisfying for me. The tricolor smokebombs in fiction will always remind me of Yodha henceforth.

Shaitaan (2024)

Nothing short of an amazing supernatural - psychological - home invasion thriller
10 April 2024
The intro animation with Shaitaan BGM is awesome. It's got more mind games than conventional horror. There's hardly one horror shot in it with the forced smile. It's very well made and sticks to its genre. I was on the edge of my seat. It is intense, thrilling with superlative performances especially of Madhavan and Janki and it kept me hooked and engaged throughout or you could even say, I was under its vash. If you imagine a similar film in which a spaceship lands on Earth and aliens invade every house and targets the planet's young females to take away for unspoken things, it would also make for a solid sci-fi horror thriller premise. Man, the scene where he cuts off his tongue gives you such a high! The film completely belongs to Janki and Madhavan. The theatrical experience is really good. If I understand correctly, his motivation was to become God by controlling as many people as he can, essentially taking away free will, by sacrificing young girls because parents give too much freedom to their daughters. The black magic and the mind-controlling sweet seems to be fictional because I don't know who that horned figure is. I had assumed that Vanraj was actually a demon in human form or something but he turns out to be just a manipulative, insane, psy.chotic human. The monologue in the epilogue was totally unnecessary though. I have read that the original Gujarati film is better with a darker ending. I want to watch it now.

Neither scary nor particularly funny
10 April 2024
It was neither scary nor particularly funny. What was the point of putting it in the same "universe" as the much superior Jennifer's Body? Seems desperate and there was no reference to that film. I excused Jennifer for making that circumcised dick remark on that one Indian guy even though he clearly wasn't Muslim, because she is supposed to be the main antagonist of the film. WTF happened here? I don't get it. She is the MC but she and her dead body does not give a single duck about anybody but themselves. There's no excuse because the dead Victorian is fully conscious about what he is doing. She suddenly has no respect for life. Her transformation into a confident, mean, murderous goth after the first murder by the dead body, which is characterized by her borrowed costumes of her sister, was sudden and made no sense. The murders were in bad taste and the victims did not deserve to die at all. Ok what the boy did was obviously wrong but he needed to be shamed and called out in public and shunned by the girls for it since he didn't do any harm to her after she said no. She cuts his hand because the dead body needs it. Where is the comedy? Was the dead body killing people for body parts supposed to be funny? Didn't laugh. "You don't need that to be a man" Yeah right. Then they proceed to have sex after attaching someone else's groin to the zombie. That's funny, but the problem is, someone innocent bleeds to death for it. Although there are a few good jokes here and there. Her sister, who genuinely means well and is a good character, just casually has a human electrocution machine and her parents don't seem to care. This is neither horror nor comedy. Just ends up as a romance between two ducked up MCs who have no remorse for killing people. I don't care about their love story. I don't need MCs to be patrons of goodness but atleast the villainy should make sense. This was so mean-spirited it wasn't funny at all. What was that green lightning that re-animates corpses? It wasn't a ritual. And the ending. He is fully alive but she is now undead. It makes no sense.

Despicable Men
10 April 2024
I know it is a true story but the ending relating to the fates of the monsters was so disappointing. They were like pure evil. Greed personified into cold, heartless human beings. It just feels like crap that they were let out eventually on parole or for good behavior, led normal lives until their deaths. Sadly, that's the world we live in. Truly, no one cares for the Osage. Also, I could have done without the true crime style show at the end which made it seem like we just watched a fictional story and it's all for entertainment.

It's long just like The Irishman but still a great Scorsese show and a cinematic treat. So many great actors in this one. Enjoyed all the performances. It was educational for sure.

Fantastic and engaging legal drama
10 April 2024
This is absolutely a fantastic and engaging legal drama. That bald French prosecutor was trying too hard lol. Everyone gave great performances.

The kid did absolutely right in the end even if he made up the story with his father and there was no reason for being afraid of her homecoming. Anyone with a functioning brain can tell the father had issues. Lots of them. The guy had vividly imagined himself as the victim when he clearly wasn't lmao. "Imposing language", "imposing your way of life" LOL. Mother is clearly innocent and telling the truth but she seemed too close to her lawyer friend. Either it was suicide or an accident or a stunt. I don't personally see any ambiguity.

Good raw, rustic but problematic period action adventure film
18 January 2024
It is more like a 6.5. It's a good, raw, rustic period action adventure film. Ofcourse Dhanush's performance is great as usual and one of the main attractions of the film. Cinematography is nice. BGM is nice. Action is nice. Locations are nice. Technically the film stands strong. The portrayal of British is appropriately evil and surprisingly, the white actors do a great job. The performances are all solid. But the plot itself causes an emotional disconnect. Overall, it is a well made film. I don't mind the depiction of casteism in post-colonial India but I can't get behind this narrative of Indian "upper-caste" kings enslaving the tribals/"lower-caste" people and not allowing them to enter the temples built by them before British. Actually, before British, there were Mughals/Is.lamic invaders.

Easa basically compares the brutality of British colonialism to being enslaved by Hindu kings and questions who will actually get the independence from the British if they joined the independence movement. The word caste comes from Portuguese. British race scientist Herbert Hope Risley is notable for the formal application of the caste system to the entire Hindu population of British India in the 1901 census, of which he was in charge. As an exponent of scientific racism, he used anthropometric data to divide Indians into seven races. The villagers oppressed by "upper-caste" Indians win when they are able to enter the temple after Miller kills one nasty, sadist "upper-caste" Indian who couldn't bear the villagers stepping inside the temple. In the epilogue, we are led to believe that the "upper-caste" rulers along with the pie.ce of sh.it sycophant who managed to escape want to take revenge against Captain Miller for the king's death. I don't want to see more sadist brown sepoys, casteist rulers against tribals during peak colonial India. In movies like these, there should not be any Indian villains. The only villains should be the British like in RRR. At least this movie is much better than Shamshera. I loved Captain Miller kil.ling all the British men. Imagine a movie set during Na.zi Germany where some Je.ws are conspiring with the Na.zis and then we get a franchise about Je.ws vs Je.ws.

Underwhelming but still worth a watch
17 January 2024
It was good and deserves a watch but didn't have that Sriram Raghavan wow factor. Plus, is that how the French novel ends? I didn't see it as an open-ended climax. I saw it as an incomplete ending. Was Albert in love with Maria? I didn't get that feeling. I assumed that he was helping her out of his own goodness. I thought he didn't want to burn the teddy bear and someone's wallet because he is a good person who had killed someone in a fit of rage. Also, when the police inspects the gun in the husband's hand, it contains all the bullets. There should be one missing, right? The one that was fired. Am I missing something? Still a good slow burn movie. The film looks good, it is slow in the beginning but keeps you engaged until the end once the actual plot starts but it is less thrilling and than his previous films. Nothing too edge-of-your-seat, clever or mindblowing stuff or anything which makes you think hard or leaves you guessing. Katrina Kaif, Vijay Sethupathi are charming and everyone plays their parts well. The background score is fantastic and does the job of making it seem like something important is happening or being revealed but the crescendo itself leaves you underwhelmed because you expect something mindblowing to have happened or to have been revealed. Honestly, the film somewhat underwhelmed me.

Tollywood got its own LCU style movie and it's awesome
17 January 2024
Chup kar, Ben Stokes! Teri maa ki! Loveday! BoseDK! Nawaz bhai mass in Telugu cinema! Enjoyed it so much.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui killed it, man. This is his show. What an absolutely marvelous dialogue delivery. I hope Telugu audience takes note of him. He is a stand out in terms of how entertaining his character is and how great his performance is. He is an ANIMAL in this film. He even laughs like one. He is many steps above his character in Salman Khan's Kick and it's commendable how he feels very different from most of his characters in Hindi cinema. I am telling you, the humour that his character brings is great. At one point, he pokes fun at a supporting character hyping up the hero and calls out the repetitive hero elevations in these kind of movies. It is hilarious.

This feels like a comic book film. The villain is over the top like the Joker, there is a Batmobile/Bond car, there is a decapitated human head served on a plate. Nawaz's Vikas sniffs the head and comments how good the head smells after he killed him. This film could have easily been set in Gotham haha because it turns into a vigilante film when it comments on the greed of big pharma letting children die. Atleast it feels like Tollywood made its own LCU style movie with the same quality. I knew I shouldn't have doubted the director of HIT movies. He knows what he is doing.

Action is delicious, you get some gore, some cool camera movements, some really cool action. I haven't seen many of his movies but Venkatesh sir gives a very strong performance. I watched Arya's The Village and I couldn't understand why he is the lead because I felt he is a very weak/bad actor but he is good in this. His looks good in a suit with long hair kicking some serious ass. Andrea Jeremiah not only is a feast for the eyes but she is also a good actor. Only other movies I have seen her in are Master and Vada Chennai. Mukesh Rishi does his thing while Jisshu Sengupta, Ruhani Sharma, Shraddha Srinath, Jayaprakash are good with what they were given.

The father-daughter bond is the emotional core of this film. SaiKo's backstory is like Leo on the surface level. He worked for the mafia and everyone feared him but then he left. On the whole, I really liked the writing in this film and it kept me engaged. For example, I was not expecting them to kill off the daughter. There is a promise of a sequel in the end when the director himself shows up with a script for a movie based on SaiKo. It is really a fun watch and has good stuff to offer action lovers. Atleast you will enjoy Nawaz's presence. They even created a fictional city and a cartel group which proves my assessment that the treatment of this film is like a comic book or a graphic novel. Some of the overhead shots of the city look really good.

Trust me and go for something cool like Saindhav instead of routine masala movies. Please do not listen to critics and others and try to form your own opinion by watching the film.

Theater experience chala bagundi. Awesome superhero origin story
17 January 2024
My 2024 film journey started with a bang with an original Indian superhero movie!

Imagine my shock when they show our hero letting his parents die in a fire because superheroes like Spider-Man and Batman don't have their parents to tell them what they can or cannot do. Turns out, it is actually the supervillain's origin story. I absolutely loved the film. I was having a deja-vu, then I remembered he was also the villain in Tamil superhero film Veeran.

I love that they make self-aware jokes about Telugu masala filmmaking and how Telugu heroes are already superheroes. Story works, humour works, origin stories work, action and visuals work big time. What Prashanth Varma has managed to accomplish with the budget is nothing short of mindblowing. Why was that monkey giving commentary lmao.

It's a brilliant integration of Indian mythology into science fiction/superhero genre although I do believe using Hindu gods directly in fictional narratives for entertainment is not right and is almost indistinguishable from the use of Greek, Norse, Egyptian gods in western films, shows or video games because they aren't worshipped anymore. In any case, this is a promising start to the Prashanth Varma Cinematic Universe and I will be there for Adhira and Jai Hanuman.

This is a proper superhero film. So expect lots of gadgets, drones, body freezing gas, smoke bombs, science fiction like monitor displays on thin air, superpowered suits but the thing to note here is that these are all used by the supervillain. Rat bodies explode in experiments gone wrong and there is a fair amount of blood too. Pretty cool visuals and not only are most of the ideas never seen before in an Indian film but the film also promises a whole lot more. The last 15 minutes are simply amazing to say the least. Trust me, you just have to see it with your own eyes. Theater experience is something else. Hats off to Prashanth Varma. Jai Hanuman! Jai Shree Ram!

Animal (I) (2023)

Terrific character study of a troubled character. Animal is cinema.
17 January 2024
Can someone explain how is Ram saying "meri mardangi ke baare mein gaon ki kisi bhi ladki se puchh lo, report achhi milegi" in Ram Leela not misogynistic? How is Shahid Kapoor's womanizer character Javed in Teri Meri Kahaani not misogynistic?

They are portrayed as alpha males. They just don't say it out loud because they aren't sociopaths or criminals or murderers. So just because these characters are in a love story, perpetuating a thought process that sleeping with multiple women is an achievement and glorifying it is not problematic or promoting toxic masculinity at all. Got it.

Apparently, the Indian masses who are going to cinemas to watch 'A' rated Animal are all incels which means audience of Jawan and Animal are mutually exclusive. Saying that audience of Animal is chhapri means that chhapris who never watched Pathaan and Jawan were especially born to watch Animal.

Imagine getting triggered by Animal when you spent your entire college life binge watching American tv shows like Breaking Bad, Game Of Thrones, and recommending them to your college friends. Who was watching Breaking Bad and rooting against Walter White?

Were Ram Gopal Verma, Allu Arjun, Baradwaj Rangan, Jimmy Cage paid money to praise the film? Are Tripti Dimri, Rashmika Mandanna, Ridhi Dogra and all the women who either worked in the film or defend the film, misogynists?

Ranvijay is a criminal, not a doctor. If police catches a murderer and ask why, he will give his reason. That does not justify murder. It is HIS pov. Ranvijay said that to win the argument and shut her up. We don't have to agree with how a fictional character thinks.

Animal is a tale of two halves. At intermission, it feels like the movie ended which is why the 2nd half feels like a sequel to the 1st half.

The first 20 minutes are very important to understand the psyche of Ranvijay. That's the hook. Once you understand what kind of a character he is, nothing he says or does in the rest of the film should come as a surprise. Aziz is the only true surprise who turns out to be an insane psychopath which makes Ranvijay seem like the lesser evil. He needs to have the last word. He justifies every single thing where a normal person would have chosen to remain silent. He has the answer to every remark, every question thrown against him. Ranvijay is a million miles away from a average guy like Kabir Singh or Arjun Reddy. He is a sociopath with violent tendencies and comes from the richest Indian family and fires a gun in his sister's school. There is 0 relatability with this guy.

Ranbir Kapoor is one of the greatest Indian actors as Animal further proves. None of the characters are supposed to be worshipped or celebrated. It explores the psyche of a criminal who deals in extremes. It is absolutely a character study. Not sure how average Indian males can even relate to such an arrogant, troubled, obsessed, violent character. If that is the case, they are the problem. Not the film. And it's not like Ranvijay has achieved anything significant by the end of the film. He lost. His father will die and his wife left him. But during the narration, as a viewer, ofcourse you can cheer for him whether it is for killing his sister's husband, fighting Abrar, using the machine gun or for something else because A. You know the context. B. You have understood his psyche within the first 20 minutes and you understand how he justifies his actions. But nobody told you to emulate him after coming out of the cinema hall because you are not him so you can't use his justifications to commit crimes. In Pulp Fiction, Jules recites Bible before killing Brett as if it justifies it but it is never criticized. Looking forward to Animal Park.
