Mansfield Park (1999)
It's the most wonderful love story
I am not a huge Jane Austen obsessive like some, and like some I am sure they stay true with the titles they have been engaged with most. Mansfield Park to be out shined Pride and Prejudice and Emma by far. There is an essence to the storyline that is provoking and personal to the writer. I personally this is why the book Mansfield Park is so different to all of her others. It's because she wanted to write this book for herself.
This movies strays from the over descriptive text the book offers but condenses it into a wonderfully filmed and well researched book.
It offers something that is so unique and quirky, a true original.
Hannibal Rising (2007)
The best since Silence of the Lambs.
Where most would think that this saga has had enough stretched out of it already this really surprises. From what looks like a lame excuse to draw this character out more is actually the very thing needed to make you appreciate how he came to be who he was.
This has been done very differently though and I am very glad to how it came out. Sure it's sombre and quite similar to the other films but this one has class. A classy noiresque ambiance which really makes the film effective.
Another thing I will point out is that the film really makes you feel different. It makes you feel different because you have real empathy for Haniball and support him through his list of revenge. And as each of his targets meets their demise inside you cheer because it was justifyable.
These are only a few points which make this movie amazing. I truly was amazed when I saw this movie because it's gore and violence with a purpose. Haniball was wonderfully acted and could not have been better.
I hope you consider to see this movie. You need no prior Haniball knowledge yet it makes you feel like you've always been a fan.
See this if you really wish to understand the dark side of human nature.
8/10
Kumo no mukô, yakusoku no basho (2004)
Still have not figured it out....
For a movie that goes for 90 minutes to last my group of friends 120 minutes to watch one must think it's pretty awful.
We paused the film many times to talk about what happened but still ended up finishing the movie with no clue.
The story was very nicely written but was all over the place. For some reason Hokkaido had been taken over or something and a tower was built... Why??? don't ask me What happens??? I don't know... it was nice but not good,. I may be writing a critique about this film but it was so confusing do not know what to write about. It was just so hard...
Watch it if you need to fall asleep.
Se7en (1995)
Yeah yeah seen it all before.
Considering the movies that are either low or completely off the top 250 list this movie ranks low (WAY) lower then a lot of the art which resides in the film world.
A #43 rating seems a bit high considering there are SVU episodes better then this film.
I found that really it was like a lot of other films done in it's murder styling (The Watcher, The bone collector and Saw) Sure the movie does has a lot of good points about how our lives as modern humans is hedonistic and wrong. What's even more wrong is putting this film higher then other great works such as
Grave of the fireflies Dancer in the dark And Princess Mononoke
I cannot believe that such a plain mediocre film has made it so high. Just shows what popularity does and how it's deciding these poles not actual greatness in a movie.
7/10 is all it's worthy for and I should knock it down a notch but it's an even figure.
Last Exile (2003)
If anime shows could be graded I am sure this would make the top 250
This show simple as a story goes really does shine against a lot of television from any part of the world. Rescent and old.
It's timeless animation that I can see in 15 years time still being rather awe inspiring.
The music is amazing. Why do the OST's have to be so hard to get? Dolce TRiade is amazing and for the artist first score I think it's an great achievement.
The story is very special. It's full on from the get go and not a second is spared.
At first I hesitated to buy this show and got the box on a whim. I was kind of skeptical after the first disc but as I bought them all I was never regretting the purchase.
I may be paid to influence people to but but "gto people" buy this because you will not regret it.
Chikyû shôjo Arjuna (2001)
Have a heart like it does.
Arjuna may be a little on the in your face side. Is that really a problem? Through out the series I can see that the director and writers have chosen issues that are real and need to be considered straight away. This would attribute to the in your face approach.
It has a good solid storyline. I think it could have dragged on for another three or four episodes. I found the last disk was for too abrupt and could have been better it they took their time.
The characters are also interesting, Chris especially.
The animation was not he great considering it's budget. I think they wanted to emphasize about raw beauty and that is why the animation does no suit it's spending.
The music is totally awe inspiring. Not the best Kanno though leave that for Cowboy Bebop or Wolf's Rain.
All in all it is superb if you have the heart to appreciate the fact that this is an important issue that needs the attention that the show gave. 10/ 10
