Falling Angels (2003)
Not the best, but could be worth seeing
Basically, the movie is about a family (parents and three daughters) in the 1960's as they deal with issues from the past and the present. There is also a secret that is eventually revealed, and sort of explains why things are the way they are.
The casting was good, everyone played their character well (mostly), except I sort of agree with the other reviewer when they said that you really don't 'dislike' the father, even though his acts can sometimes be inappropriate.
There are some scenes I liked with some of the individual characters, and the cinematography is nice. I especially liked the opening and the closing scenes.
Overall, I didn't like some of the story. But if you like any of the actors or are just somewhat interested, it is probably worth seeing.
Murder Most Likely (1999)
An Interesting Case with Great Performances!
I first came across this movie because I was looking up Paul Gross' work. I saw my TV listings and noticed it was on CTV (today)! I didn't quite know what to expect. The beginning blurb of the movie explained that it took the facts of the case, but also added bits of fiction. What I liked was how a number of different circumstances brought the whole story together, and showed many sides of the characters and case, for it made it all the more interesting. It moves in chronological order, but does have a bit of straying (with good reason). Obviously, with this type of movie, it had to explain why and how things were occurring with the corresponding scene of a past moment. The ending made me feel like the whole case is still a mystery, and maybe it is. On another note, the casting was flawless, everyone played their part very well, for it was quite believable and realistic.
Flower & Garnet (2002)
Very moving film
If you want a little background information on this film, read the other users' comments. I am just going to explain my view on this movie :)
Overall, it has spectacular cinematography. It deals with grippingly real issues. You are able to connect with and understand the characters. The actors are really perfect for their roles - individually and as a family (played by Callum Keith Rennie, Jane McGregor, and Colin Roberts).
All in all, I appreciate that I got to see the film. It is definitely an improvement from mainstream media that is constantly coming out. (Not to say there isn't any good mainstream movies, I'm just saying this in a general sense).
Beware for those of you with short attention spans! (I blame the fast-paced mainstream media, he he). I mean, I am also a little impatient but I didn't find myself squirming even once! It had my full focus and attention. You will feel for the story.
I recommend it for just about anyone (more so those who are in their mid-teens and up).
If you are into the art of film, you will appreciate seeing "Flower & Garnet".
Due South: Pilot (1994)
A very fun action/comedy
It's a fun show playing on the differences between Canadians and Americans while busting the bad guys for their crimes. It is an extremely lively show and you will only enjoy it if you fully understand it. I completely recommend it. Give it a try! (At least view a couple episodes. When I first watched it, I thought it was a little out there. I left it for a while, came back to it, and then just got it!). Very enjoyable. Unfortunately, I haven't got to see the third/fourth season (in the U.S. it was put as just the third season, in Canada it was split). In the third season there's a new detective but the same Mountie. So we'll see how this guy is. But I know I can say for sure that the writing and the characters and the actors just work together so wonderfully it's amazing. The seasons are on DVD now unless you're lucky enough to see it in syndication. There's the International version which is pretty expensive, and then the American version. You'll know the differences by the price. Try going to Amazon or Best Buy. So far people like the cheaper American version better because of it's good packaging, menus, etc. So you make your decision. Thanks for reading this, it means a lot because I am such a fan of the show and it will live on!
