Nomadland (2020)
Well. I just can't finish it
Tbh, I am encouraging myself to watch this because of McDormand. I was curious about nomad. If I come to choose what nomad movie you would like to watch twice, I might be choosing Tallulah, which I never put in my favorite movie. I still could watch Tallulah till the end, although I give the 4.5 rating.
I understand about showing the life of nomad in such simple, deep, and close to nomad conversation; as close as the common people talking. However, the performance of McDormand (if you expect to be portraying about common people), seriously. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri is way way way much better. Or what else, if you want to talk about the common people life. I will choose Roma.
It is just a main course you can't finish. It's maybe lacking something, but as a common people who enjoy watch film; both commercial and festival, I can't really enjoy it until the end, tbh.
Shut In (2016)
It'll be Better If the Genre Is Drama
It is the one of thriller movie that left me a bit excited about the plot twist. I thought that the movie is a full horror with spirit in it. I'm pretty fine with the story, but there are a lot of missing parts that should be in the scene to make it much worth to be watched. Everything flows nicely with the background story of young Stephen who felt that he has been abandoned by his own mother because his mom pays more attention on her silent patient. Then, Stephen is just so jealous and he can't handle how hard that he knows the truth. However, I only can't get into my spot of my excitement while watching this movie and I don't find it is "that" thriller that I expected. It is more likely a family movie which is added by some shocking-scene seasoning disproportionately. It flows just like that with nothing thriller sensation stands out. It comes after one hour of flat story and finally this movie tickles me to watch till the end. Maybe it is more acceptable if the genre is family and drama.
Don't Hang Up (2016)
It's Good, But...
I read the plot first before watch the whole movie. Then, I get interested and then I watched the whole movie. First 15 minutes was okay for me for the story, two boys prank a lot of people with terrible jokes. By the time the antagonist play the role, I intentionally started to feel like "it is a bit exaggerated". It doesn't make sense that the protagonist knows every corner, every single thing the two boys did. It could make a sense if this film tells us the story behind it how the antagonist set all the cameras, how he get into those two boys' life, house, and makes an acceptable rapprochement. The good thing is the ending is not disappointed and makes sense yet I'm not that satisfied with the sense of its technology in this movie (it's like the murderer is a god. Knows everything).
