The Magic Flute (2022)
A nice surprise
I just happened upon this movie while browsing. I had not heard of it and it sounded intriguing I'm a fan of Mozart so I decided to watch it. I'm very glad that I did. Refreshingly fun, poignant, and entertaining. Not to mention great music. Very nicely done adaptation of the opera. Is the singing fabulous? Those that are
real opera singers are wonderful. Everyone else did a really nice job. It's nice to see a great composer get some screen time again and possibly introduce a new generation to Mozart. Forget the bad reviews. Just relax, turn the ringer off on you phone and enjoy it. You will be humming some of these tunes for a few days.
National Treasure: Edge of History (2022)
Not so bad
Not as good as the first two National Treasure movies, but it will help you pass the time on a rainy night or two. Yes it's cheesy. Catherine Zeta Jones is a disappointment. Her acting is just not up to snuff. The series is predictable and unrealistic. However, just overlook that and let your inner youth take over and imagine an adventure that culminates in a treasure hunt full of twists, turns, a villainous woman and finally, a treasure. Not Disney's best effort, but it's really not as bad as some reviews. Relax, pop some corn. Grab a fizzy and cold beverage. Prop up your feet, turn off your phone. Enjoy.
Glass Onion (2022)
Enjoyable
Glass Onion is actually a bit better than Knives Out. I found this movie to be a bit predictable, but very entertaining. Cast is good. The acting is good. Don't get your knickers in a wad over Daniel Craig's Southern accent(it has improved). It's really not that bad, as southern accents vary from region to region. Believe me, I know my accents. Sit back, put your feet up, have a Coke and some popcorn and enjoy this movie. Lots of twists. The ending is very interesting. Edward Norton was very enjoyable, as were all of the cast. Keep your eyes peeled for something that seem out of place...you will know what it is...
Remember Me: The Mahalia Jackson Story (2022)
Pleasant surprise!
Not sure what I expected, but this exceeded my expectations. I remember hearing Mahalia as a child and thinking, "wow!' Nice movie about a HUGE voice. Nicely told. Doesn't dig too deep, no foul language, or sex. Just the facts about her life and faith. Mahalia Jackson was a real treasure. Big Gospel voice. Even if you are not into Gospel, look her up! If you've never heard her sing, look her up on a music app. Deep, liquid velvet voice. Wonderful biopic, good acting. Wish we could have more movies like this one. It's not an academy award winning film. It's just really enjoyable. Thank you, Hulu. Job well done!
The Empress (2022)
Entertaining
The series is very entertaining and the over dubbing of the German is well done. I normally don't like overdubbed movies It is not an historically accurate series if you do a little research on Elizabeth, dates and events are mixed around, but it is fun to watch, has intrigue, drama and memorable characters. Costuming is gorgeous and acting is good. It does give a good representation of the politics of the time in Europe. Lots of big egos, power struggles, poverty and so forth. Elizabeth was a very odd duck. If they renew for season 2, I hope the portray her eccentricity to the max. So, sit back and relax with this one.
The Manor (2021)
Hmmmmm....
Not a bad film. Predictable in places. Kind of plays like a teen thriller would have read in 1968. Decent acting. You have to watch it with the lights off because the filming is so dark it's difficult to see in places. It does confront the issue of aging and mortality in a creepy way. Overall, I enjoyed it....because I'm over 60. Lol!
Man vs Bee (2022)
Mr Bean-ish
Just watch it. It's not Mr. Bean, it's Mr. Bean-ish. Silly, ridiculous, predictable and enjoyable. I wish it was in movie form instead of short episodes.
Stranger Things: Chapter Seven: The Massacre at Hawkins Lab (2022)
Wow!
Can hardly wait for July! Spellbinding! Ties up loose ends. Answers questions! Creates questions. Even though I know this is fiction, this episode made me forget that! Excellent!
Night Sky (2022)
Slow start, but you need to be patient.
Yes, it starts slowly. Remember, Franklin and Irene are slow movers so it fits the series. We are dealing with seniors here, not Star Trek. Wonderful chemistry between Sissy and Simmons. The story line has many unexpected twists, suspense, and unanswered questions. Also, who ARE some of these characters?! Nice to see older actors whose characters get outside of there comfort zone. Decent science fiction. I hope there's a season 2 because there are loose ends I want tied up and many unanswered questions. I found it to be an intriguing and delightful series.
The King's Man (2021)
Not bad at all
I wasn't sure if I'd like this movie, but it was entertaining. Kind of long winded and hard to believe at times but nevertheless fun to watch. Cool special effects and fight scenes. It was rather refreshing to see Matthew Goode in a role the polar opposite of his Downton Abbey character. Also nice to see an older man as an action hero. I hope there is a sequel to this prequel. Take a chance an watch it!
The King (2019)
Good watch
This would have gotten a 10 if they had kept to the timeline of actual events. But, I won't elaborate. Great cast. Excellent acting. I was glued to it the whole time. Great portrayal of the time period.
Game of Thrones: The Long Night (2019)
Wow!
Best episode yet!!! Drama, suspense, minimal dialogue! Sucks you right in!
Game of Thrones: Winterfell (2019)
Wow!
And we are off and running! The nasty get nastier, the good vs evil gets deeper, twists and turns. Excellent opener!
